Sharp muscle pain in calf

I had a TKR 12 weeks ago and all was going as well as expected until yesterday.Whilst walking, albeit still with a limp, I started getting sharp muscle pain in my calf.It hurts all the time I walk now. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi saralice

I'm now 14 weeks post RTKR and conciously try to walk without a limp , probably habit from limping pre op and really no reason to now . I have also had various sharp muscle pain , not constantly tho and nerve pains - probably the healing process as i understand it is still very early days . I presume you are still doing the exercises which again i am told is imperative in order to regain full mobility . Hopefully yours will settle - i was wondering why you are limping?

I'm sorry to hear of your discomfort. I am now 9 months post op. At the 3 to 4 month time frame I also felt sharp muscle pain while walking. I would stop and stretch my hamstrings during the walk and it improved greatly .......for another few minutes. It showed me that the muscles needed stretching and reinforced the instructions from the PT.This pain has now subsided. Hang in there and stretch, stretch , stretch !! Good luck.......It is a journey ..I'm hoping the 1 year mark is when I will feel normal again......fingers crossed.

Thank you for your posts, they really help me to stop worrying. I still limp because I can't get my knee perfectly straight despite pushing it.It's still swollen and stiff so I'm hoping I'll get there eventually.

Thanks Chico, very wise words as usual and I'll take heed, I have been resting my calf muscle but it looks as though I should still get up and go.

I'm 5 weeks on from PKR and have been experiencing swollen painful calf muscles in my operated leg for the last couple of weeks. Doing really well otherwise, have been driving since 4 weeks, walking without sticks since three weeks. Good flexiblity etc. Anyone else experiencing this? Any advice?
