Shingles pain and itching HELP pls
Posted , 39 users are following.
my shingles blisters and rashes have fallen off and skin that was left raw and open is healing BUT the pain and itching has worsened and intensified. The prickling pain and twitching feeling is so intense and irritating I've given into itching. Does anyone know of anything I can do....the other day I was awake till 5am. It felt mild wen I had the blisters but now I'm so uncomfortable. The doc give me amithriptyline and that helped with pain in my throat , ear and and head but does nothing for skin. I'm so confused...has anyone else experienced this. Please share ur recovery stories with me and if there's anything u found soothing I'd be grateful to hear from you.
This is such a terrible illness....I think there should be (optional) vaccination for everyone from childhood....it's so bad that's why I'm thinking along these lines....losing my mind. My shingles started two weeks ago and I have completed the course of acyclovir.
Hope we to hear from anyone who has suffered from shingles and or Post shingles pain
many thanks

Act fast as you may have the beginnings of post herpetic neuralgia pain which can last years. Or your Shingles has not finished its cycle. Call your Dr.. Maybe you need another course of the anti-viral medicine.
There are no "cures" but acting fast, it may go away. Your nerves have been inflamed and damaged. Ask in a health food store what supplements may nourish and soothe and calm your nerves.
Pain meds don't work well for nerve pain.. Try ice cubes in a bowl with a little water. Rub them on your rash. The cold can have s temporary relief
Wish I had more ideas. To put ON the rash ... I googled what natural oil is closest to skin oil. It kept suggesting jojoba oil. I got some organic and it is VERY soothing. Better than Vit. E, cocoanut oil, olive oil.

Shingles on chest and neck. I went to an acupuncturist, he gave me an herbal medicine cure which is effective at stopping it from getting severe (it's called "The Snake & The Dragon Teapills Plum Flower Brand" which you can get online) . He also injected an antiviral natural remedy to deal with the shingle virus internally and at points on the skin where the rash has become open sores. The prickling pain won't go away overnight with this treatment, so I am using "Dr King's cold sores and herpes" remedy in a spray. I remove my shirt and use it topically. It does provide immediate relief (you have to repeat after it dries)

My advice is go to a good acupuncturist. Mine also gave me an a natural and effective antiviral shot used in hospitals in China and herbal pills to treat the virus (Snake and Dragon Teapills Plum Flower Brand). The only other supplements directly affecting Shingle virus are Lysine which stops the virus reproduction, Viitamin B12, and immune boosters such as Astralagus, COQ10, Alpha Lipoic, etc. Acupuncture is the most highly effective treatment for shingles and the nerve pain. For the pain the only cream that works is capsacin. It's not 100 percent but it blocks the worst nerve pain. Since it's made from peppers it can generate heat on the skin at first, so use it sparingly on the nerve areas. The steam from hot showers also provides temporary relef

After the shingles rash starts to go away, I still had the nasty nerve pain to deal with. I've been using Capsaicin cream io block pain signals for the worst pains. I tried something that appears to be working much better. CDS, (a form of MMS). You can use a small amount internally, but I also applied it topically. There's a bit of a temporary sting with using it at first, but the nerve pain is going away.. within twelve hours much of my shingles nerve pain has disappeared.

Correction: Skip the MMS advice, it appeared to work at first, but in the end it doesn't.

My shingles broke out December3,2017. Today is February 7, 2018. I still suffering from PHN pain daily. It isn't all the time anymore and it certainly isn't as severe as it was the first several months but it still is a problem. I've tried everything anyone has suggested and have gotten temporary relief from many treatments. Mostly it just gradually gets better or it has for me. Gabapentin has been the biggest help of all the things I've tried. Also there are creams for shingles and I've used several of them for temporary relief. Ice packs helped a little as did heat packs at times. Try to get as much rest as you can and stay away from stressful situations as much as possible. Prayer and meditation also helped me to stay calm and ease the pain. Sorry that's all I've got to suggest.

Barb (from another Barb), you may not have realized how long the acute phase of the pain lasts, but the good news is that you're to the point where it should ease a bit. I also used gabapentin, a medication I do NOT recommend, because for me an so many others, it had life-altering side effects. But many doctors to prescribe it or other meds. Are you on anything? I never had itching, so I can't help with that.
I also am on a prescription NSAID, and have been for years, I believe that's helped me. When it was bad I took Tylenol 4 times a day and used Aspercreme with Lidocaine 4 times a day. Now it's 3 times a day. My shingles was 2 1/2 years ago, but I still have pain from complications of it.
As you mentioned, for some ice helps, do NOT wear a bra if you possibly can. I bought many new lightweight tops which were print or flowered, nothing with a hood or cowl neck. I still have pain set off by clothing affecting the nerves. It took a long time for me to figure that out. For me, fleece is the softest, so I got a lot of those for winter. Avoid using that side and bending, twisting, lifting and reaching. Those activities increase the pain. I had to use a straw to drink, couldn't hold the phone with that hand etc.
There are a lot more tips in the forum, but I hope that soon you'll see some relief. If you can rest as much as you can, get distracted by books, pets, movies, whatever. You can get through this, we all did. Take care.

HI Barb
My GP Doctor just recommended
getting a nerve block. I have a pain management doctor and will ask him about it soon . I dont know if I can handle this for years. Have you thought about a nerve block?

No I haven't considered a nerve block. For one, my PHN is improving. But many of the more invasive procedures like nerve blocks or implants have mixed results. I'd rather than the devil I know. Each person has to make their own decision. At best some people get long lasting results, others have a few days or weeks of relief, some have worsened pain. Do a lot of research, ask the doctor how often he's done it, how effective have they been, is a certain area where they appear to be more successful and what should you expect after the procedure.
