Shoe advice for post operative bunion removal

hi. I am seven weeks post op after bunion operation and struggling to find anything to wear on my foot.  I am currently wearing my husbands size 9 croc on my post op foot and my trainer on the other.  Not much movement in my big toe yet and scar still not heeled so along with swelling I can't get a normal trainer on my foot.  Wondering how long this will last and when I can get back into a matching pair or whether I should invest in a larger pair of trainers for the recovery period. Any advice?

    I have been wearing swim shoes, very light when lifting my foot and soft over the scar 😀

      Do you mean a flip flop?  I can't even get my own croc on as my foot is deeper than usual and my own trainer is not long enough to be able to slide my foot into at this stage. conscious I look very strange in odd shoes and feel like I should carry one of my crutches so people realise it is due to injury and not madness!

      No, they are a lighter version of a trainer that you go swimming in, the thought of  putting on a flip flop makes me shudder because the scar is still sensitive !

    Really do sympathise. I have spent the whole afternoon trawling through the internet looking for trainers that I may be able to get into after the operation. I am only 19 days post op but I thought that I would try and buy some soft trainers ahead of time. My problem is that I take 8.5 so trying to find shoes a size bigger is tricky. I had this operation because I seem to spend my whole life looking for shoes that fit me but I think I am going to have a bigger challenge looking for shoes to wear after the operation.

     I have a Ball to go to a few days after I am allowed to go back to shoes but I have visions of going in my orthapaedic shoe.

    Look forward to any suggestions of where to buy suitable footwear but  think I could give lectures about where to purchase shoes.

    Hope you find an answer to your problem soon.

      i have very shallow feet normally so struggle to keep shoes on but now my left foot is swollen can't imagine getting a matching pair that work for a while!  To be honest I would be glad to give up future heel wearing to just be able to wear a normal pair of flat comfortable shoes!  I hope you are able to wear shoes for the ball but on the bright side if you wear a long dress you can hide your shoes anyway. I am longing for warm weather and maxi dresses again! My husbands black croc is already getting on my nerves and I refuse to wear both of them which may look like a fashion choice!

    I am 7 weeks after op on my left foot....I had the fight foot done 3/4 years ago and I have to be honest.....I had it done in March and I spent  the whole year in flip flops or fit flops!! It was Xmas time before I got a full shoe on due to swelling.  Worth it though to me and now I will have two feet the same shape 😀😀 looking forward to next summer in flip flops on the beach and not hiding one foot.

      I am glad it has worked out for you. I doubt I would do my other foot unless it gets too painful so won't have a matching pair!  My right foot seems to have worsened but is not hurting so I can handle it being ugly! Everything moves around more when you get older though doesn't it! I am not a patient patient and torture myself at the thought something will go wrong even though I think it is progressing as it should!  A decent pair of comfy shoes shouldn't be too much to hope for but guess I will be entertaining friends with odd footwear for sometime to come!

      I was feeling quite inadequate as I have not gone back to work yet mainly due to the journey to get there!

    Hi Sue, I haven't had any problems going back into my normal shoes. The swelling can last up to 12mths I was told, but mine hasn't been too bad at all. I don't go walking just yet. But I've been wearing anything I want to.

    I'm 8 weeks post-op.  I can't get my foot into trainers, it just won't bend enough.  I'm wearing Hotter extra extra wide (Easy style) because they open very wide and have a Velcro adjustable strap.  But they're not pretty - I can only wear trousers with them.  I also have a pair of Hotter Abigail style sandals which have two Velcro straps across the foot so totally adjustable, but they're no good in this cold weather.  Other makes of shoes you could look at are Padders, Skechers, Sandpiper and Wider Fit shoes.

      Thanks for the advice. I feel like that as my foot just won't bend yet. I can manage to gets my husbands size 9 trainer on but clearly can't wear both if them as I am a 5!

      Great advice on where to buy suitable shoes!! I am 9 weeks post op, right foot only with pins that are staying in and I am more or less in my previous boots and shoes. Not without some discomfort though!

      That is encouraging Sandra. Did you have stiffness in your big toe too?  I am hoping this will improve over the next two weeks to allow me to get into trainers at least.
