Shortness of breath with Costochondritis?
Posted , 83 users are following.
I was diagnosed with Costochondritis and I have been noticing shortness of breath along with pain. I have had EKG's and chest xrays as well as blood tests. My doctor firmly believes this is not a heart issue.
Has anyone else noticed shortness of breath with this? My pain is mainly in my sternum but radiates through out my whole chest wall.

Everything you wrote on here is the all related to this disease. Chest pain and bone soreness and I know I have had all the tests that could be ruled out as a heart attack. Believe me I have had this for 15 teen years . and back than you didn't know to much about it.

I have had shortness of breath for months now and have had every test under the sun done to assure me that my lungs and heart are healthy. The doctor believe that my shortness of breath comes from anxiety which has led to inflammation. I have not been diagnosed with Costo however everything I've read on this page hits home outside of the sharp pain in the center of my chest. Instead, I just have an extreme tightness causing the shortness of breath. Anyone else just have extreme shortness of breath without the sharp pains in the chest?

Hi June,
Thanks for your response! That's great that you have been able to continue exercising. I really enjoy running however the past few months I've had to stop completely because I couldn't breath at all. This lack of exercise has caused me to become slightly depressed but I am trying to stay positive and work through it. It's difficult when all anyone can tell me is that I'm "healthy" and there's no way for them to actually see the inflammation that's causing all of these issues. I'm very happy to have found this board though and reading everyone's similar issues has helped me realize I am not making any of these issues up! Anyways, I appreciate your positive words and wish you the best of luck as well!!

Hey everyone!
I have been apart of these discussions for a year now and it's been quite the time! I am so excited to say that after a year and a half of not being able to walk 5 minutes without suffering or needing a rest I have within the last 2 weeks walked 5 seperate times for 25 minutes each and I am able to go about my day with way less suffering. The only thing I changed and I have tried everything for this thing was add in Krill oil 1000mg. Check it out! Krill oil is more powerful than fish oil...I can't believe the difference I am finally getting my life back! And its only been 2 weeks. I hope this keeps up. I read online that krill oil can heal intercostal! I had this costo crap the worst it could get and it never gave me relief for even a minute.
Anyhow I had to share this
Ps- I tried regular fish oil and got nothing so I know its the krill oil.

hi there
have had costo for about 3 years now on/off sometimes can have relaxed periods.
I try natural remedies like ginger tea/turmeric tablets and use ibuprofen gel.
Just curious; ; does anyone experience wheezing with costo?

hi everyone, reading these comments does give peace of mind, im 28 and i have psoriatic arthritis, im used to getting the odd pain here and there but only recently ive been gasping for air. my specialist said it does sound like costochondritis! i am getting put on a 3 weeks course of steroids on wednesday. i really hope they work, the breathlessness is so had it makes me panic. its always worse at night time. i hope everyone in here is managing the best they can.

that is reassuring, just the fact that its not just us imagining it. I think costo is likely to cause anxiety, but when Ive had it, sometimes Ive woken up with it so I dont think anxiety is the sole cause.
Difficult times at the moment, but once we are able to visit doctors in person, I shall be off to see one to be reassessed again

Yes Ive heard hot water bottle is good 😃 when i had it last week, it was middle of night which was horrible 😦 I know this probably sounds silly but I just went downstairs had a drink of water and had few drops of my rescue remedy (which calms me down) and then just sat and did deep breathing for half an hour I know it doesnt stop it but it helps in the moment.
If either of us manage to find out why we suffer this, keep each other posted of what may cause this 😃 in the meantime stay safe too and be positive!
