Should I up my preds

Posted , 8 users are following.

hello everyone,

this afternoon at 2pm I had a fall, I was climbing up our rear garden bank when I placed my right foot on an uneven piece of land and my ankle went way over on its right side. The result I have broken my calcaneus bone where it meets the cuboid bone. Obviously at the time I was in dreadful pain and I thought I was going to be sick but as time went on the pain has subsided and I feel ok. I have a pot up to my knee but I need some advise.

iam at the 2 days old 1 day new stage of the dead slow and almost stop reduction reducing from 7.5 to 7mgs.

do you think I should continue with the reduction, stay on 7.5 or up my dose considerably and of course along with all if the options his long should I stay on/at any of these options.

thanks for any advice. Regards, tina

Hi Tina, So sorry to hear about your fall and break. I hope you have settled down a bit. This could have happened to any of us - and, indeed for you, it could have been worse ie. it could have been your hip.  I don't know at all about the Pred. but someone will advise you, I' sure.

This has to be a time (and excuse)  for you to rest up now at the end of the season's hard work. ( Saying this to try and look on the good side of this!!  Also, think of all the arm muscle you'll build up if using the crutches. . . .)  T  x

Sorry about your fall. I've fallen 3 times this past year. Personally I would stay at your dose for a little longer then reduce again when you're feeling better. I would ask your doctor too. If it was me, I'd stay at 7mg for a week or two then reduce. Your call. Good luck!

      No, just stupidity problems.

      1. Slipped at the entrance to the grocery store in the rain on their painted ramp. They didn't put grit in their paint. I came down on my elbow.

      2. My tall boots have a buckle that got caught on a fire hose pipe that sticks out into the sidewalk downtown. Fell on my right knee.

      3. Last week I had on a 35lb backpack blower and was blowing leaves off my pontoon by the lake. I stepped off onto the dock and reached down to grab a rug and fell in the lake in 2 ft of water.

Yes, I'm still alive. I just live dangerously. 😃

      Good.

1 although you need to get the grocery store to add the grit,

2 take the buckle off your boots

3 put hazard warning tape at the edge of the dock.

      rolleyes

I think I would stop the reduction and remain at 7.5mg for a week or so, but it really depends on how you are feeling.  I was really in shock following a minor (and very silly) fall and I did put the dose up then from 5mg to 7.5mg for four days.

On the other hand I did have a hip replacement earlier this year but found no need to increase the Pred - we're all different, but I seem to be different different!

Stay exactly where you are and see if you have any re-action at all.

If no re-action, stay where you are till the 'pot is off'.

If you feel a 'flare' up it by 1mg a day to where you feel comfortable, then once the pot is off and you are back to 'what passes as normal' start your reductions again.

There is no point in rushing it, it is not a race, you have got this far and on 7mgs the side effects have and are reducing.  So as the old saying goes  'steady as she blows'.

Get someone in to  flatten that rear garden bank  or plant with wild flowers, vinca major and vinca minor, snowdrops, woodland anemones, wild garlic and sit back and admire it.

Hello linda, for me it's a case of the wretched crocs, they are these cheap rubber flat sling back shoes that flop about when walking. I lived in them, needless to say Bob has thrown them all out now. I was walking up our uneven bank to the rear of our house and I walked on an uneven piece of land and my foot went inwards whilst my ankle slipped right ways out of the crocs and just kept on going!!! regards, tina

Thanks Constance. We have our friends arriving on Tuesday for a week and I'd already emailed them to say that when they arrived I'd be out having a test drive of the new Honda Jazz and yo let themselves in. Needless to say I then wrote to them saying that I'd now be in due to the reason everybody knows of.

they are both Drs (embryologists) and she wrote back saying that I'd be having extra special care from 2 Drs from next Tuesday onwards and they will do everything for me. Obviously I cried a bit. All that remains is to train Bob in house worky, cooking, cleaning things and I'll be well sorted! Regards, tina
