Shoulder pain....anyone heal?
Posted , 5 users are following.
I have a type 2 slap tear. Doctors said they cannot do surgery because it's not big.
I feel on the shoulder in July, had a frozen shoulder unfroze in August, I have been doing PT for 5 weeks. I have pain almost constantly, plus my other arm is starting to hurt because I have to use it more.
I'm feel hopeless and depressed. It's been 1 year since slap tear, 2 month since fall, 5 weeks since unfroze.
I have tendinitis and bursitis in my shoulder.
I just want some hope. Has anyone had relief from PT?
My PT said he has seen patients make full recovery.

Have you gone in for a second opinion? I'm thinking of course PT will say that to keep you coming. If it hasn't helped yet, you might want to try other options.

Hi! I've seen an orthopedic surgeon who said they can't do anything for me because my tear isn't big and my pain is from impingement syndrome tendinitis and bursitis and not the tear.

Exactly, and that includes a new PT!! PT's have different areas of specialty. Different styles. One size does not fit all!!! Nicole, remember, posture posture posture is critical too!! and pack that shoulder in ice!!!

Hi
My situation is a little different but still similar. My scapula is broken in half and its right in between needing and not needing surgery. My left arm has been pretty much useless. Anytime I want to use it I have to pick it up with my other arm and put it where I want it, like putting it to my keyboard to type. The pain is consistent all day long BUT...
I have been doing my own PT three times (at least) a day. For my PT, I attempt to move my arm without the help of my other arm until it hurts, then I push it a little more. I strongly believe that in order to grow/progress I have to push through the pain. I have to make my body do something it doesnt want to do so I can do things I currently cant do. It is very painful but I have made a lot of progress in a short period of time. The hardest part of all of this has been the psychological fight. The challenge to keep my mind focused on recovery not on the worst possible outcome.
You probably dont follow motorcycle racing but I would recommend watching this short video (3mins) about Ian Hutchinson. Very very inspiring. He was told he would lose his leg, and if that didnt happen of course never walk, or never ever ride a motorcycle, and of course never ever ever race again. He did the impossible and recovered and keeps winning the most difficult race in the world.
Stay focused, stay focused.

I can imagine what your going through.Have you been referred to a orthopaedic team?, ideally one who specializes in shoulders.I imagine you have had a x ray if your Gp is saying you have a large tear. What did he mean surgery would not help ?.Is he saying it is irreparable. How much ROM have you got.?. My advise to you is not to leave it ask for a referral to the appropriate team,so as to gain a definate diagnosis.
Good luck to you,let us know how you get on.

Hi Susy
I have had 2 MRIs done and it is a stage II slap tear so not a terrible tear. My pain is from the impingement syndrome. I've seen a orthopedic surgeon who said there is nothing he can do for me.
My PT said it will take 6 months to heal. He is a great PT. it's just so hard to see this ever ending.
I feel like I'd have more hope if I knew someone who got better

Henpen thank you thank you! For your positive words and encouragement and the hope that I will get better.
I am icing every 2 hours.
It is a mind f**k!! I'm going to reread your post when I get discouraged.
And I keep telling myself...what I have is not a chronic condition....it will get better. My PT who has worked with title I champions said that he has seen patients with my condition make a full recovery. I need hope!

You are so right! Thanks for the support and positive vibes. I'm pressing on and going to recover I keep telling myself.
I saw my doctor tonight and he said I will always have weight restrictions...which I guess is fine....as long as I don't have pain!!
