Sick of constant kidney infections and antibiotics

I'm 23 and have had trouble with Kidney infections all my life.
When i was little i had trouble with wetting the bed until i was 8years old.
All my life i've had infections, some urine but mostly kidney. When i was 20 I developed acute pyloneprhitis which overnight turned into septicaemia and i was rushed into theatre with suspected internal bleeding.
I've seen specialists in Dorset, Somerset and Gloucestershire and have had loads of scans and xrays which all confirm there is nothing wrong with my kidneys.
The only symptoms i get are pain (always always my left kidney only) and cloudy urine. I seem to get these about once a fortnight - i'm so sick of antibiotics (which dont even work that well anymore) that i've stopped going to doctors and just try to cope with it on my own by drinkingloads of water and taking painkillers.
Its been suggested that i take a permanent antibiotic which i take everyday for the rest of my life - but i'm only 23 and i hate taking drugs for anything.
I worry that when i'm older i will get kidney failure. I just CANNOT beleive that a normal healthy person can get this many infections and nothing be wrong? Or that there is nothing that can be done about it. The specialist in Gloucestershire told me \"It's very common and unfortunately technology hasnt advanced enough to deal with the disorder, so theres nothing we can do\".
I feel sick, tired and emotional everytime this happens and its so hard to cope with work, university, keeping a house and being a single mum to a 2year old when i feel this ill. I manage but it makes me cry a lot.
There must be some explanation or solution???

Hi all I don't have pain in my kidneys but I have suffered on and off over the years with recurrent uti's,my symptoms used to be dark smelly urine and a little niggle in pelvic area,I recently changed my lifestyle for the better which includes drinking only water now (this has been since march/April time) since this ha he I've had nothing but health worries, one being uti's,I've already had antibiotics for 2,just finished one lot and now 2 days after I think I have another, the only symptom I had last time was frequent urination and a lot each time I went,I put that down to anxiety until I suddenly woke up with severe pelvic pain and needed to pee every 2 mins, got to docs and straight away the dip test showed a raging uti,my Irvine doesn't go dark and smelly now if anything looks too light almost clear sometimes,no burning or anything just a whole lot of peeing, anyone else get this?? Whilst on antibiotics last week felt fine and just went a normal amount now I'm back to feeling kind of sensitive in the pubic area, not sure how else to explain it.

Hi I was just wondering if you've got any further? I'm 25 suffered with my right kidney from I've been 16 but never been diagnosed. Had multiple scans over the years and only been told my right kidney doesn't clean the toxins properly. . Since December last year I've had 7 infections and the last one seen me being admitted to hospital. Scans come back clear yet bloods slightly raised and urine saying I've an infection. I'm drained with all this. 7 infections in 10 weeks has me at near ripping my hair out. Please any advise would help

Hey,
youve basically described everything that I've been through:
kidney infections all my life
im a healthy 25 year old
i have a, now, 3 year old
single mum
i work
go to university
have a house to take care of
but with this kidney infection, it's just so severe I can't stand for long, if I sit, it's still agonising! I have just been to the hospital today to have some more antibiotics prescribed along with some codeine. I can only take 1 codeine at a time as taking two makes me have dizzy spells.
When i was pregnant I spent a week in hospital because I had another kidney infection. They did a ultrasound and both kidneys were glowing infection! The whole two kidneys were completely whir and fluffy so I stayed in for them to pump antibiotics into me.
I just wish I could be a completely healthy young person and not have to go through these episodes of exhaustion, pain and discomfort. I want to have loads of energy like normal people. I'm like you though, I feel a slight kidney infection coming on and try to solve it myself by drinking lots of water and taking painkillers but it's just not good enough apparently.
I know now how you feel though, it makes me feel so emotional and exhausted.
9 years on, how are you feeling now?
