Side effects of coming off propranolol

Hi Ive been wondering whether to see what I would be like coming off propranolol 10 mg. THe reason I ask this is because I have two boxes of 28 plus one strip of 14 left and Im wondering whether to not do a repeat prescription once they run out. Has anyone came off them suddenly or been tapered off instead

Hi, I was on 80mg slow release per day for three years and just stopped with no taper about 2 1/2 months ago with no problem. 10mg is a tiny dose but talk to your doctor first.

I don't think so. I came of them due to other health reasons. I suffer from severe anxiety and was taking them for that.

Sounds promising then. I'll make my decision closer to when I'm running low on it

How is your anxiety now. Are you mostly good or do you have odd off days

To be honest my anxiety is massive at the mo, but not due to coming off propranolol. I'm having lots of health problems.

Hi, I assume you are taking propanolol for your anxiety, can I ask how frequently and for how long you have been taking this?

Okay, well I agree with the person above, I don't think that you will experience any side effects but you can always check with your doctor to be sure. I take it on an as needed basis (with the same dosage as you) so I've never experienced any withdrawal symptoms. but good luck to you, I hope all goes well

I am on 10mg propanolol too for the last 3 months. The first months I was on 10mg twice a day. Then I cut evening dosage as it was keeping me awake at night. I was wondering about the same - can I just stop taking it. I asked my GP and he said I can stop anytime no worries, he said the dosage is so low that there will be no issue. Plus he said because I take it for anxiety abd not say heart problems, then there is no risk. Jelley93 - why do you want to come off it?

10 mg is a pretty small dose but I would still taper down.  Cut them in half and see if you have any withdrawal symptoms (sweating, shaking, irregular heartbeat etc...)

I stopped taking 10 mg. cold turkey and didn't have any issues but someone else might.

Gp said at 10mg, the pill was more of a placebo than having any effect on me. I've stopped in the past too without tapering and had no effects.

Hello, I too have been on them since 2005, and have put on 2 stone and cant shift any weight at all, I swim in mornings before work, and no matter how much exercise i do nothing shifts it but I guessing its down to the fact of tablets as slows metabolism down along with heart rate.

Doctor told me to try and ween off them, so over the past 4 weeks have cut down from 40 mg twice a day to 20mg in morning and in evening.. but last few days have had fast heartbeat, and I took my blood pressure last night and it was really high ( am on Lorsartan for blood pressure too), so I didnt like the feeling so went back on the 40mg again. So took blood pressure this morning (after taking 40 last night) and back to more normal.

I really dont know what to do , as knee operation coming up and told by surgeon need to lose weight!

But dont need blood pressure higher!
