Silly question but what did you sit in after you came home?

My hubby has been loaned a high backed chair by community equipment. Its very unforgiving and tried to make it more comfy with a memory foam pillow. He still says its uncomfortable and wants to go back to his own seat which is a sofa with electric button that reclines back and raises the feet. It only has one arm but he says he can use his stick. I am a bit concerned as it's a bit low. He is 12 days post op. What do others think based on your own experience. Thank you.

I had a hard chair which used to be a hospital chair, with arms which I used at first with a pillow at the back to cushion it and a piece of foam to sit on.  It was a bit uncomfortable but I stuck it for two weeks.  After that I put a thick piece of foam underneath the cushion on the settee and a cushion at the back of me.  This worked okay for me as I only have short legs but a taller person would struggle I think to get up and down.

What shirley64346 said- put blocks (that can slide out) under the couch if that's what works for him.

I used our downstairs futon bed and my leather stressless recliner with the ottoman. We tied a rope loop on the ottoman so I could hook my good foot in and pull towards me

oops, that should say blocks that can't slide out.

If you have a therapist that comes to the house, or that you can call/send a pic, that's ideal.

Thank you all so much for your advice - what a good forum this is - and apologies for my lack of comments. Some of you may remember from a previous posting, hubby has effusion to the knee on his operated leg and we think the other knee is kicking off too so been an eventful couple of days. Been looking at his sofa and its a moulded leather seat with no separate cushion plus it has a dip in the shaping and worried about any slide effect, so he decided to stick with the chair. I did like the idea of the rise and tilt chair and made an attempt to buy one on eBay but someone beat me to it. Many thanks.

Not ideal but good short term I bought a Queen Anne style chair in a charity shop and put a memory foam cushion on it . I did have mine recovered but it would be a cheap alternative you could get rid of when he's better .

If he has the strength in his arms to slowly sit down and lift himself up without breaking the 90 degree rule, I say go for it. I too have used my cane for help in lifting myself up when there has only been one arm to bear my weight as I rise.

He could also place a pillow or two behind him so he does not over sink into the couch.

    Good luck to him!
