Does anyone else suffer from sinus type problems during menstrual cycle.

I have been keeping a diary and have noticed that about a week before my period is due I start suffering sinus problems eg stuffy nose, blocked ears, congestion and fuzzy headed sometimes dizzyish.

I keep explaining to my Dr that this keeps happening but he is not convinced there is a link. I'm sorry but my diary says otherwise.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I I have had very similar symptoms in the thing that I have tried that works for me because Ginger supplements. I take them when I initially started feeling the nasal congestion in my face. I used to suffer from migraines that lead to vomiting and being completely unable to work. I started searching internet for answers. Went to multiple Drs. Everything came back normal so I started to look for a rememdy, rather than an answer. I purchased the Ginger suppuments and took them as soon as I felt the congestion or nausea & took them throughout day. Within 30 min instant relief. I'm a nurse, & thought I was gonna have to leave work early because symptoms were so bad. Brain fog gone. Migraine gone. Nasal congestion gone. I felt like I had found a miricle solution. I take the capsules to work & drink ginger tea also. I always have them in my work bag. I don't take any prescription drugs & I hope to keep it that way. Ginger is a blood thinner so it can react with presciption meds. Also I wouldn't take prior to surgery. It has antiinflamation properties, which is why I think it helps so may symptoms. They cost less then $10 so I think they are worth a try. Try a google search of the health benefits of Ginger, I hope some one is able to gain relief like I have. By the way a Dr will never prescribe it. They don't learn it med school & it doesn't make the pharmaceutical companies money, so this is something you will have to research yourself like I did.

I sometimes get really bad headaches about a week before my period...  I think it's related to hormones. These headaches are really bad for a day or 2 and then I'm better.   They are not migraines because it's the forehead between the eyes area..

Next time I get these I will try the sinus pressure meds. I usually take 3 IB Pro every 4 hours to help with the pain.   That and a cold rag over my forehead.

For years I have been suffering with a weird pulsating and clicking noise in my ears, sometimes accompanied by a ringing and feeling of fullness/underwater.

A few months a go I started to diarise it and it Always starts a week before my period!

This week however it came along with my period and the ringing was so loud I couldn't concentrate or hear! Very scary. I also felt a bit off balance and nausea, I went to doctors thinking I had an ear infection but he couldn't see anything and sent me away. I mentioned the link to period and possibly I'm in Peri menopause and he completely ignored and dismissed said I'm way too young. (45).

He seems my internet search and found this thread thank god!!!!!

I have already been working on improving my diet and had been taking vitabiotics wellwoman plus. But I am going to explore more supplement options.

I cannot believe how little info and research and support their appears to be an peri menopause!!

Sorry to hear that you've been having a rough time. I had/have many of the same symptoms and more. They started when I was 32. From day one I knew it had to do something with my hormones. I was sent to every specialist in my area and have had every lab test out there. I've gone to naturopathic, fuctional, & holistic drs. You name it, I've done it. Still nobody has a true answer for me, but that doesn't stop them from trying to give me antidepressants for no reason. 4 years later, a biopsy found that I most likely have a lack of progesterone (hmm hormone Imbalance like I've been saying all along). The best advice I can give is that your body knows more than any doctor does. And it is trying to work and fix itself and is most likely running on fumes. Look into adrenal fatigue, look into hpa axis disorders, look into low levels of pregnenolone and progesterone. Everyone is different but I bet you'll find that those will help. Find a good functional medicine practitioners and a good acupuncturist. It will make a world of a difference.

I just want to reply to say I can relate about the congestion, especially ear and sinus "fullness", not a runny nose just foggy feeling..so many other annoying and sometimes scary peri symptoms; major anxiety, heart palpitations, occasional hot flush, aches and pains, nausea..you name it..it's also annoying because symptoms change each month..never know what to expect! I know this doesn't help you but I feel lucky to have found this forum..otherwise I thought I was crazy and/or dying! I'm 46 and super busy, adding graduate classes to an already crazy life but I just need to keep going..even when I want to curl up on the couch and avoid life. Again, I realize I'm no help but knowing we are not alone can help..so sad that the most help we can find comes from other ladies online..no doctors seem to specialize or show any interest in helping us maintain quality of life at this time of life..I had NO idea this would happen, thought a few hot flashes and some crabiness and it's done...No way. Hang in there!

    Hi,

Even I suffer from same condition. Along with nasal congestion I also get inflammation on the side of my nose which stays for over one damn day. If I try to tell this to doctors they completely ignore it saying there is no connection between your nose getting swollen and your periods sad

So I believe I’ve discovered a cause to our nasal congestion, anxiety, muscle pain, dizziness, heart-racing, brain fog:  the ANSWER could very well be HISTAMINE INTOLERANCE!!!  The good news is that those symptoms that are so bad sometimes you feel you may be dying might easily be treated by avoiding certain foods and/or supplementing with a DAO enzyme, zinc and B6.  I was in crisis in 2012 with these symptoms with no help from most doctors.  Finally after much research did I find my answer.  Please start researching histamine intolerance to see if it is your answer too.  Here’s a good article to start with:

The headaches are less and less before my period.  And now  I'm experiencing head pressure more and more.  Was at the doctor last week going over my blood test which was all great.  But dr mentioned that I could be developing allergies as I'm getting older and also especially this time of year.  It could explain why I feel dizzy and just 'dopey' at times.
