Sinusitis (Personality Change, "empty head syndrom"??)

Hello there,

I am depressed due long lasting sinusitis. since half a year i have headaches. sometimes mild and sometimes they are really aggressive. But the worst part of all that iss the personality change! I was always a kinda introverted guy but since my sinusitis got severe i cant have lasting or quality conversation. Though i was kinda shy i had always a lot of thoughts and i was a passionate college philosophy student. But not anymore i turned stupid, kinda dead inside and i have a empty head all the time. thinking doesnt feel intuitive. when i try to force myself to have a longer thought chain, it doesnt work and i get frustrated and depressed.

People notice a change, im not sociable anymore and i dont enjoy any type of conversation. it feels impossible when you cant digest any information.

I start to freak out because i cant make sense of how sinusitis gives me this symptoms.

Does anyone have experience with this sinusitis symptoms?

(sry for my english im from germany)

Hi after ready your post I was oddly relieved to see that I'm definitely not going crazy and that there are other people I can relate to about these specific things. I feel slow, foggy, like I'm always one second behind and I'm always trying to keep up with conversations and people often tell me I'm slow.

I remember it didn't used to be like that until I started smoking and doing alot of drugs. Then if I can recall thats when my sinuses really took a turn for the worst. Gradually over the years it progressed and became worse and worse. The symtoms became more prevalent.

I didn't know what was going on ..all I knew is that I felt like crap, I began to isolate myself, became even more distant and felt very depressed.....even suicidal at times.

Finally i came down with a massive panic attack and it wasn't until I went to ER that they found a chronic sinus infection that I've probably had for. very long time unknowingly. So they referred me to an ENT (ears nose and throat specialist). I took antibiotics and that dramatically helped but over time again my sinuses continued to suffer and I started to gradually feel like crap again like before. So now I'm seeing another ENT and he took a catscan of my head only to find that I didn't have an infection again but that my sinuses are seriously inflamed and blocked. Thus the reason why I'm still having all these symtoms and eventually this would lead to another infection if not treated.

That is when he recommended Balloon Sinuplasty. It is almost like a chiropractic treatment in which the sinus cavities are dilated with a small ballon ,then washed out and drained. The turn around is quick and the openings that are restored let your sinuses drain naturally. This is a long term solution rather than a bandaid because the openings stay open too.

I'm having it done June9th and I couldn't be any more excited. I will definitely update you guys post procedure and I wish you all the best!

I am suffering from the same symptoms lately. Ever since i can remember i have had sinus issues. Had surgery when i was 13, and from then on my very painful journey started. Im now 39 years old and I javent been able to solve this issue. its so frustrating. been to countless ENTs and even an allergist and everyone tells me the same thing. That I have Non-allergic Rhinitis . but the problem is the feeling in my brain. i feel as if i had ants crawling inside my head. i sometimes get a pressure so bad in my frontal sinuses that i cant concentrate on anything. sometimes I get ringing in my ears as well. Antibiotics used to work but lately nothing works and im just stuck with this awful illness 😦. lately i havent been able to process thoughts and even forgotten words when i writte.
