      Hi Selphie85

I think Naomis had a tough time with her operation reading the threads. I am in the same situation as yourself. Sliding hiatus hernia. I get throat burn which is the biggest problem for me. I have found a very good book though called The Acid Watcher Diet. It was shocking to read because actually it helped diagnose me where some drs failed. You should read it. It has suggestions for recipes which are more alkaline and gives a good idea of foods to avoid. I follow the Dr who wrote the book on Facebook now because I was so impressed. I am currently trying to follow his diet called 'the healing phase' where he only allows foods with little acidity. I was taking ppls but after having them for close to two monthes it started to affect my stools & was giving me diarrhea(sorry I know it's rank) I read a few threads from ppl who say they go off and on the ppis so ill probably do that but in the interim figured I had nothing to lose trying the diet.

Well it's only been a couple of days so its too early to tell yet but my stools are back to normal now im not on the ppis but i am still getting the throat problem which I believe is due to silent reflux. I don't think it happens just at night though.

I'm now thinking that the only way to improve my throat is to have the fundoplication operation. I have asked my dr to refer me to the specialist so that I can see how damaged my oesophagus is before I decide whether to do it or not.

Try reading as much about it as you can first. That's what I'm doing. Are u from England? Just because I'm wondering if I do go for surgery whether to go private or through the nhs.

      Anyway, keep me posted. X

Last week went for a review with my surgeon as my PPI medicine (Dexlansoprazole) completed. I will have a endoscopy check on 17th August to decide whether I should go for HH repair or not. Good Luck for me~

      Hi ProtonStar,

      I'm from Malaysia.

I go for private hospital for review and checking. Now I just wait for another endoscopy check whether my HH need to repair or not. If need, then maybe will arrange this month or next month to repair HH together with gastric plication.

Good evening..hope You doing well?  Really hope you can give me some advice.. so I'm up again on another night when I have to be at work in few hours, with no sleep again, I don't get the horrible taste in my mouth, but the pain in my chest is awful.. and it lasts for hours. I have a sliding hiatus hernia, medication isn't work, and it's really effecting my life, have tried testing with foods and drinks.. makes no odds!

Keep Going back to my Drs, they keep saying there isn't a lot more they can do.. how hard is it to push for surgery? And should I really be expect to takes meds for the rest of my life that are not working.. just makes you feel so low.. sorry for the rant! Thank you x

      Hi Sarah

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I have a hiatus hernia. I haven't had any operation but can say that I've started noticing my reflux pain in the throat /hoarseness may be stress related and then triggered by fatty sugary foods. I didn't know any of this until I went camping for a week and suffered no symptoms at all only when I ate biscuits did I get reflux.

Sadly I was on ppis for just 6 wks when it started to upset my stomach and bowel. To the point where I couldn't do a normal stool and had pain in my abdomen so I stopped taking them thinking it would clear up. 3 monthes on and my bowels are still the same. I have started eating gluten free which has helped slightly and im waiting for results back from the tests im now undergoing but I'm convinced it's been caused by the ppis. Am now in a worse state than before with my stomach now being a huge issue for me.

They say go to the doctors and do as they recommend but now I'll be hesitant at committing myself to anything risky and I didn't realise  the medication recommended would be. Things DO go wrong. People do react badly to things sometimes. Only commit to the operation if things are too unbearable for u because if they're not, if u think u can manage and get used to your symptoms... id say maybe wait until it's unbearable because if, like me you have something done thinking it will improve things for u it might not and could make things worse and u have to be prepared for that.

I wasn't prepared for it and now I regret taking ppis.

Speak to others get as many perspectives as possible.

      Take care x
