slimy eyes, driving me mad :(

Hey guys im new here. Nice to meet people with the similar problem, Ive had this terrible condition since I was 18, i am now nearly 28. I dont get as itchy eyes as others do, the part that I really struggle with is the stringy discharge that im constantly pulling out (normally from the corner of my eye) does anyone else have this? Every day now im rubbing and cleaning my eyes to the point where they look like the devil (extremely saw and red). It dosnt really effect my vision, unless theres an enoying bit of slime across my pupil as I blink somtimes, and just when im trying to do somthing too. You can imagine what my eyes are like in the morning. Im not a happy guy these days, I wish the goverment would just share their secret stash of cures and remedies with the rest of us. God luck hunting for soothed eyes...all the best,

Andy smile

    Hi

I also have a slimy eye my right one also waters and looks like I'm crying. Had this for years and nothing worked. After reading a post by lynda I've been using wet ones and Neutrogena visibly clear (that's got the same ingredient as wet ones) for about 2 and a half weeks and does seem easier. Not nearly as slimy and can open my eye in the morning. Hoping it continues to improve. Just like to ask if you're wiping your eyes to vigorously as well. Good luck in whatever you try.

Hi, i used to use some eye wipes but couldnt afford to keep buying them, the same with the eye drops i buy now, it feels like im throwing my money away just for 5 minutes of relief, i just use 'Systance Balance' eyes drops, and use a cotton bud or my finger (if im at work or somthing) to pull out the slime wich causes the saw eyes sad

Glad to hear yours has got better.

      All the best, Andy

      Hi Andy

Try the Wet Ones.....they are not expensive.....especially when you cut them up to use just one little bit on bottom eyelashes, and one on top eyelashes {so thats 4 each time} you can cut them into about 8 pieces.

What about the doctor...will they not prescribed some eyedrops for you that might help. Thats where i got thes ones from.....I've just kept them on repeat prescription I'm retired so dont pay......dont know what your situation is.

      Love

    Dear Andrew,

Honjon, on this site had the oily problem with his eyes and could not even see television for an hour. He used the handwipes in the UK and had great results.

Blepharits is often caused by Stahylococcus.

If you are not allergic to shampoos, detergents, handwipes, fabric softeners or lanolin you can give it a try as they (the handwipes) kill Staphylococcus.

Benzethonium Chloride is in the US antibacterial WET ONES handwipes that I used to kill Blepharitis on the eyelashes and the eye margins (not in the eye).

In the UK, Benzalkonium Chloride is the ingredient in the handwipes. These are called Quats. Google all these words and find the info.

I was not the first to kill it with Benzethonium Chloride. My friend used a facial scrub with Benzethonium Chloride in it and killed her Blepharitis. I just talked to her and she said it took her only 3-4 days to kill hers. That product was reformulated and that is why I looked online to find something else with that in it.

Hope this info will help you to get relief.

Lynda, I googled staphylococcus blepharitis together and learned quite a bit about this nasty condition.  I asked Andrew earlier if he had an eye infection and if you read about this bacteria it is possible that he, me and others have this bacteria that we just can't get rid of.  Interestingly enough, I read that it often takes 3 courses antibiotics to work, so it's likely that just one prescription isn't enough.  I know tht I am on my second round of Vigomax eye drops and eryzthromiocin eye ointment (to use on the lids).  I am in Canada and don't have access to Wet Ones, but will look for a product with Benzonium chloride on our pharmacy shelves and give that a try.  I know that my opthamologist said that this condition is similar to dandruff and I will look for a Dandruff Shampoo too to see what the active ingredients are of that as well.  (I'm wondering whether dandruff shampoos have Benzonium chloride in them) But I'm beginning to think that what I have is more on the bacteria side than just common psoriasis/eczema/dandruff related.  I encourage others of google the bacteria Stapahylococcus and Blepharitis and see what they come up with and to share their thoughts.

      Dear Lori,

I found out all this info after I killed it. You can order from an online pharmacy and get the wipes if this current treatment doen't work.

I just went to the eye doctor this last week and a new one looked into my eyes. She was not happy that I killed it with the wipes.

If an over the counter product can kill this staphylococcus on the eye then you be sure that there is an antibiotic that kills it.

If this does not work for you, let me know and I will give you my research on the anitbotic and why it will probably work. I actually have it in my house but just can't find someone with Blepharitis.

Google Quats and see how they work. That is what Benzethonium Chloride and Benzalkonium Chloride are called. That was my second step in my research. The antibiotic was the third.

      Wish you well soon.

Lynda, I found Wet Wipes in the Pharmacy in the travel section.  I was looking in the wrong area.  I'm going to try them.  I also bought Selsum Blue shampoo to wash my eye lids with too.  My eyes started to swell again and were red.  I found that cold cucumber slices worked really well to get the selling down quickly.  I still have the Vigamox eye antibiotic and the Erythromycin eye ointment for the lids.  The eye drops are starting to make my eyes hurt and I am worried that they are chaning the pressure in my eyes.  So I am happy to start the Wet Ones routine!  Thanks!

      Dear Lori,

I had a friend who said when taking herbs to use one kind. If using a mixture you do not know which one you would be allergic to.

The same is true here. Use one thing at a time.

Give your eyes a little time between new routines.

If your eyes are irritated from one thing or another it would be best to wait to try the wipes until you know you are back to square one.

I found that I took antibiotics 3 times (in the eye) and yet killing it was on the lash area.

Some doctors do put the antibiotic on the eyelash area. It is called off label use.

Please don't use shampoo at the same time that you mentioned (Selsum Blue). Save that for later. Please look up all the ingredients too.

You will not know which one bothers you if you do both.

Just worried about you as know you are desperate to get relief. Please wait to get your eyes back to regular (whatever that may be for you) to start something new.

      Thinking of you,

      Lynda79

Thanks Lynda!  I appreciate your concern.  Actually, I went off the antibiotics and am trying the Wet Ones and my eyes look like they are clearing up.  I am on Day 2 of only Wet Ones.  How long did you continue with the wipes?  When you stopped using them, did the condition come back?

      Dear Lori,

It tooks 3 1/2 months to kill it for me. Last 2 months were only 2 times a day. My eyes itched 1 or 2 times more and I jumped on them with the wipes for 2 days each time and then it was gone.

I still use throw away mascara wands. Now, though, I use 1 for both eyes and never put a used one in the mascara. So far so good.

I do once or twice a week use a regular bar of antibacterial soap and make sure I rub on my lashes when doing my face. If I sound a little paranoid, probably is.

I also buy a new mascara each month.

I keep the wipes on hand just in case and take with me to give to others if the conversation ends up with anyone having it.

Just went to the doctors and she could not find the Blepharitis. She thought I was using the wipes daily. I told her no just for those few months.

It is a staphylococcus infection and that is why these wipes worked.

I did not miss a day, though. Some seem to wain off as it feels better but I wanted to kill it. Persistence pays off.

This will work for about 80% of people who are not allergic.

Hope this info helps a little.

Yes, this is very helpful!  You've emphasized the importance of long term care and not to assume that once the majority of symptoms have subsided that one is "home free"!  That was my mistake with the first round of antibiotics too!  I stopped once I felt better, but the infection came back within a week.  But now I'm using the wipes and the symptoms are subsiding.

Another question!  Did you find that your eyelids ( the surface skin) were drying out with the Wet Ones?  I am worried about using any type of moisturizer on them and my skin feels really dry now.  But I don't want to stop using the wipes.

      Thanks, Lori14156

      Dear Lori,

Try to use the wipe on your fingertip so it gets mainly on the eyelashes.

If you wait 10 minutes (times for Quats to work in article I read online) then use water to wipe your skin and see how that works. I do that to a person in a rest home. It will help.

Also, you can cut down the number of times you use them per day. For example, Jill on this site used them only 2 times a day (she worked) and her lashes grew back in she told me. She had had Blepharitis for 20 years.

Do whatever makes you feel better. I posted just how I did it. It may take a little longer if 2 times a day but you may feel better.

Let me know how you are doing.

      Wish you well soon.
