slow transit constipation

Hello Everyone,

I've had several discussions with you all and it's really comforting although nothing anyone had suggested has helped on a practical level. I'm really worried this time however as my usual large intake of stuff - copious senna and dulcoease - has produced no release at all and it's really uncomfortable.

I'm thinking about fibre products like fybrogel which I've avoided cos I don't want to add to the clogging - fibre being a bulking agent. I've always understood that soluble fibre as in fruits for example is ok but with slow transit, steer clear of other, non soluble fibre, cos it adds bulk which compounds the problem. Any comments would be most welcome.

Also any help at all would be lovely. I'm really getting to the point where I am tearing my hair out in a way. I am having appointments with a good colorectal dept and surgery isn't really an option so I've been told. I don't want that anyway as going under the knife can open a can of worms - so to speak! It's hard to control my thoughts and to steer clear of concerns such as, have I reached the point where nothing is doing to work any more. Also colonics don't help any more either.

What's the point indeed.

Best wishes to everyone,

Pat

Pat, I am taking a complex predigested vitamin supplement called Fulvitea. Look it up, it has helped me with digestion issues.

      Hello Jeremy,

I've tried many"alternative" things over the years but I haven't heard of this before!  I'd much rather go natural rather than relying on medication and I'll try it for sure - thank you very much.

      Best wishes,

      Pat

      Hello Jeremy,

It looks like my supplements have decided to stop working - that's life!  Your supplement is expensive. and before I decide whether to try it, would you mind elaborating on the issues it resolved for you? Do you have slow transit and/ or a long colon - I have both!

Thank you for your ongoing interest,

      Pat

I have slow transit and a funky curvy colon along with gastroparesis. Yes it is expensive but after about three purchases , it helped regulate me to some extent. I no longer use it, just digestive enzymes now.

Thank you Jeremy. I am already taking digestive enzymes so I'm not sure if the product would be worth the outlay in my case. If only one knew in advance this sort of thing in advance!

      Best wishes,

      Pat

I done think I really need digestive enzymes. I take them as a benefit. I think the vitamins and herbal content in it helped repair nerve and smooth muscle function which is what they told me on the phone that it would do. So, in my case I had nerve and muscle damage in my colon , small intestine and abdomen.

Pat, this isn't a medication. It's all natural ....everything in it. It's actually designed for complex health issues. Everything in it is all all natural. It's one of the few products that helps body wide repair.

      Hello Jeremy,

I really appreciate that you've taken the trouble to follow up on this.

As sometimes happens, coincidentally I was put in touch with a  naturopath in my locality. I saw her shortly after our exchanges and  I'm following her recommendations which seem to be working! I didn't want to "confuse" my body by introducing another product so I've put your suggestion on hold so to speak. Thank you again - it's comforting to know there are products which really produce results in the "real" world.

I hope you are continuing to maintain your improvement.

      Best wishes,

      Pat

      Hi Pat,

Just seen this thread and my story sounds exactly the same as yours! Have you have any luck with the naturopath?

      Hello Nikki,

I think I've just lost the reply I was preparing so here goes again!

First, sorry for the delay as I've been away. Yes, the new regime is working and I started at the beginning of January which is a good sign. I have the occasional day when nothing happens, today is one of those, and I always have 2 days when nothing "comes out" after my monthly colonic irrigation. Subject to that, I "perform" every day - not a great amount but I have a long colon, slow transit and I don't have a big appetite so I'm happy so far. I suppose things could change in the future but so far, so good.

The down side is that this is expensive as I'm on a range of supplements most likely permanently. I take a mixture of multi vitamins, fish oils, digestive enzymes, magnesium, L Glutamine powder. Plus a colonic once a month - that's also been more productive since I started the supplements.

I'm experimenting with doses as we are all different which makes it difficult to be too specific but do let me know if I can tell you anything else.

      Good luck and best wishes,

      Pat
