Slowly going insane from ETD

Posted , 12 users are following.

I am 43, male, living in Southampton and I have had ETD for several years. It is slowly getting worse and I am going insane. Sounds are becomming more and more uncomfortble and now I walk around at work with headphones on and everyone thinks Im an anti social freak. On top of that the loss of sense-of-well-being and GP's only ever wanting to prescribe antibiotics. Crazy ;( Steve

Hi Steve, I can confirm that the earpopper device is excellent, quick, painless and very effective for the pain of pressure in the ears.

It opens the eustachian tube for a while (mine always closes again after some time), but will help.

Ive had multiple sets of grommets in as a child and t-tubes in as an adult and the glue ear keeps coming back.

Nowadays if I get a cold I know Im going to have issues, so I use saline neti pot rinses to keep it clear as much as posible and the earpopper for when it gets difficult.

Ive been reading with a lot of interest today about a stent that is inserted into the eustachean tube... really keen on this idea.

I know its awful when everything is muffled, and you feel dizzy and spacey - its because of that fluid in your inner ear.. it needs draining away so go and grab an earpopper.

I did ask this question somewhere else here but think I might have posted it in the wrong place - could you please explain re: earpoppers?

Price, where to get them, etc?  Sorry to sound so dim but Iv'e never heard of them until I came here and like many others here (I suspect!), I'll give anything a go....

      Thanks Guys

Jon, thanks for that, I duly did what you suggested and found the cheapest place to buy one was from Boots.

Pricey?  Yes it is but I have to say, it works! I can't claim that the condition has gone but you really do experience the ET opening up. Half an hour after use I could feel it draining down giving me a nasty taste in my mouth and I'm sure that keeping the inner ear dry must help to hopefully let things clear up naturally.  Thanks one again.

That's great. It took a few days to get rid of my loud hmming noise, it was quite painful sometimes too, like an infected wound being opened. I use it maybe 2 times a day now along with the Dymista spray still. If you think your ETD is a resuly of your sinuses like mine apparently is, ask your doctor to prescribe you some. I don't yet know what has virtually cured me yet, the spray, the popper, or both.

Hi. Been bk to ENT today. My left ear is full of fluid but been told no operation will cure it. Carry on with nasal sprays etc but I have been and ordered the ear popper device today from Boots. This is expensive at £99.99 but I'm so desperate I'm willing to try anything.

Hi Clare, have a read of my reply to Jon above regarding the Ear Popper - I got mine this morning.  Yes, it does cost an arm and a leg but I honestly think it's worth it, you really can feel it work if you use it as per the instructions, also there's a vid on how to use it on U Tube you can watch but it is simple to use and dosen't hurt.

Any way, fingers crossed as to wether it will prove to be a long term cure, time will tell.  Good luck with it.

Hi Marlene. Sorry to but in. Please do try it - the ear popper I mean - I got mine this morning - and oh! the relief! I don't work for the company in any way. Yes it IS overpriced (at least here in rip-off England).  No, I DON'T think it will ever cure me but for the first time I can hear lke I was 25.

I honestly don't think I'll ever be cured of this: to date there is no cure but please buy or find a friend who has one and just give it a go if only to help you out when it's driving you mad and you're perhaps going down into depression like it does with me?
