small hard lump on roof of mouth HELP

PLEASE HELP.

Just a quick bit about me, I'm 20, female, smoker of 5 years, trying to quit as pregnant now.

I've had this small lump on the roof of my mouth for at least a few years now from what I can remember. It's never bothered me before but a couple months ago I ate something that knocked it and I noticed it was there again, and in the past few years I have become increasingly anxious. Anyway I was terrified it was oral cancer. It's only a few mm and I'm not sure if it's white or pale or just the colour of that area of my mouth.. It's hard and doesn't move as far as I can tell with my tongue and its about 2 mm off center right on the part where the hard palate changes to the soft palate.

It's quite hard to notice I think, I've had braces since and the orthodontist or dentist has never mentioned it..

I got so so anxious about it I finally made myself go to the doctor and got her to check it out, she said she wouldn't worry about it and that it's probably just a build up of tissue where the two palates meet so I decided to try and forget about it. Then the other day I knocked it again and noticed it, it's still pretty much the same as far as I can tell, maybe a teeeeeeny bit bigger but I'm not sure if that's just where I've been playing with it or what. Anyway now I'm terrified again. I'm not sure if it's because it takes loads for me to be reassured and she didn't seem all that experienced or the fact that I've had quite a bad experience with doctors in general because they give me so many different answers, but I've literally been panicking constantly to the point I can't sleep again even though she said it was fine. I've made an appointment with another doctor for a few days time to get a second opinion.. I'm scared for a few reasons - if he says its fine will I believe him? If he says its fine but then says to get it checked by a specialist to ease my mind I'm worried he'll just be saying that and thinking it is actually something serious and finally I'm worried he'll say to go and see someone because it is serious! ALSO because I've had it for years, what if it is serious and it's two late?! I read that only 50% of people with oral cancer survive past 5 years sad

I'm so so scared, I've got a little boy on the way and I just can't stop stressing over this but I'm worried even if it's fine I'm still not going to be reassured.

Please help sad

Hello! I had this issue some years back. My doctor said it was some kind of abnormal bone growth (of course he missed a lot of other things I had wrong, so who knows). Anyway, he sent me to an oral surgeon and whatever it was, they removed it. If I can remember right they tested it. It was fine. Now, though, it feels like it grew again. I'm going to have it checked again here soon.

I replying to all on this board. Approximately 1948 I had a symbol of growth on the roof of my mouth. Medicine was not as advanced than those days. My pediatrician kept reducing it by pressing it with a stick probably draining the fluid period over the years it bothered me whenever I would eat something shop like a potato chip. It would become irritated. As I got older it would occasionally become irritated. After I got married and had children it occasionally bothered me periods one day approximately when I was about 30 years old it started to hurt very badly and I went to a cousin who was a dentist. He called his partner in because he had never seen this or possibly had never seen it this bad. An hour later I was in the office of an oral surgeon Who removed it period the next two weeks will very painful and I was on morphine to relieve the pain but after that it was gone just as your can be gone if you seek the right professional help. You need to see an oral surgeon. mine had started to grow into the sinus cavity. Stupidity would be to ignore it. An intelligent human being will check it out and get it fixed

whoa fillyy2,  calm down, honey, that baby probably feels like he's on a roller coaster. lol If its been there for yrs, I wouldnt worry about it . Plus, you are young. Did you even mention it to your dentist? I would do that the next time you go (which we hope is every 6 mths).  Really, if it were cancer, i would think it would have gotten a whole like bigger and cancer likes to let you know , :HERE I AM'  as for the smoking, i did that and now at 67 i have COPD and have an oxygen tank in my living room.  You have to quit sometime so it might as well be now. What i did was wait til 1pm and quit in the middle of the day. i dont know why but it worked and its been almost 5 yrs now.  Besides, how can you afford them?  They were $5 when I quit but when i started......get this..35 cents a pack. and they didnt know they were bad for you. I can barely make it down my steps without heaving and gasping for breath and its only going to get worse. PLEASE, for that baby, do it tomorrow, 1pm for him. good luck sweetie.

hi moni85. I have exactly the same symptoms as you have. how are your lumps? have you checked them with a specialist?

See an oral surgeon.  I'm surprised your dentist did not send you to an oral surgeon.

I also have 2 small lumps in the hard palate since Dec/18. I saw 2 doctors and both said it's normal and should not worry about it but I keep touching the lumps with my tongue and every now and then I freakout .

I developed a lump on the roof my mouth a couple of years ago. I saw an oral surgeon and he said it was probably a blocked salvary gland and it should go away within 6 months or so. IT didn't and it's still there, but it doesn't bother me. I used to freak out about it, but its just there. I wouldn't worry about it. Go see an oral surgeon for piece of mind, but im sure its nothing to worry about.

I had the same experience. 5 years ago got 2 small bumps on my hard palate of the mouth. I was so tensed because I was a continuous smoker. The bump didn't go away. After a few days, I consulted an oral surgeon and he checked my mouth well and told me nothing to worry about that,  it is a Mild chronic inflammation"
