So close to op...

Hey all, my op is now on Wednesday this week and it's beginning to feel a lot more real.

I have mixed emotions about it all. Scared, apprehensive and full of hope and expectations.

Did anyone feel emotional before their op? Dunno why but I find myself crying at stupid things.

I couldn't even get my boots and socks off the other day and burst into tears. What's happening to me?! 🤔

Anyway sorry bout that, just sitting relaxing and thought I would check in with you all.. Hope your all doing well. X

Yes I got quite emotional, thought I had got it under control as well. But the day before the op, and I work in the hospital where I had the op, I had a major melt down and had to leave midafternoon

Yes. I just told the boss I could not concentrate anymore. Go home he said

My husband did work the day before his op in the theatres. Locum brilliant surgeon said to him I passing why are you limping? Because I need a hip replacement said my husband, and you are doing it tomorrow. Oh said the surgeon, you happy about that let's go and look at your X-ray. So they did and he did a brilliant job. This surgeon does 6 weeks a year and always asks how hubby is.

Maggie if someone as strong and clear headed as you feels like this before this surgery, I think that says everything about the emotional feelings we have beforehand, all of us. I must admit even I feel very comforted by your post, I am just considering a second replacement now. As you all of all people are a complete rock, solid as they come. Thank you for telling us this, because it allows to also feel worried and be open about it.

    Hi Worriedgirl

yes i was exactly like that before surgery. I am now 11 days post op and i am sore which is expected but nothing like the OA pain i had before and recovery so far has been really good.

Try to relax and its ok to cry but you will be so happy you did it. I know i am 😀👍🏻

    Hang in there

I too, am having mine done on Wednesday.  Know how you are feeling.  I cried for two weeks when I found out I needed it doing, more so because I was worried about work.

But I need this as you do, the pain, most of the time I can cope with it but not when it locks up, soooo painful and limited mobility which is getting worse.  I had my last shift at work today., got a couple of days holiday.

I have everything prepared ready for when I come home, but the first six weeks are going to be the hardest and I'm dreading it, especially the sleeping on your back.  Also (sorry about this) cleaning ones self after going to the toilet, not allowed to bend or twist, which I do both.  I'm not allowed in my shower because it's over the bath, so have to strip wash, never feel clean doing that.

But it will be worth it, once our bodies settle down.

Good luck with your op. :-)

You really will be fine and strip washing is very thorough but get abby wipes too.  It was hard to sleep on my back but the joy when you could turn to the side!  Some hippies I know remained in the end sleeping her their backs.

Let us help you after your op by listening to your worries and possible blue days. Tthere seem to be a few having their op on Wednesday..

Hope your op goes well too.. The sleeping on your back is a bit stressful too, I genuinely can't do it. Always curled up on my side. Bought a v shaped pillow to see if that will help post op.

Also the toilet and shower issues, I think I'm gonna be the same. Been thinking about how I'm gonna get my hair washed?! Don't like to be unclean. So many things whizz through your head.

We will be recovering together then.

      Good Luck for Wed X

If you don't have anyone to help you with hair washing, use your kitchen sink. I put a non-slip mat in front of mine and found that I could get my head under the water flow easily without bending too far. Impossible in my tiny bathroom basin. If your kitchen tap is not high enough, at least the sink should be large enough that you can half fill it and use a bowl to pour water over your head.

Well, sorry for late in replying, guess we are both through it now and on the healing route. I hope your not feeling too bad.

I had mine 3pm on wed last week, spinal block with sedative, cried as soon as they woke me lol. Took about 5goes to get the spinal in, but didnt hurt, he thought I have arthritis in my back. Every single member of staff were fantastic couldn't of wished for more.

I did have a fall in hospital, frightening at the time but did no damage. Arthritis pain gone, bliss just op pain left. Get my staples out on Wed, got a pic when I had my dressing changed in hospital, I wanted to know what it looked like.

Managing with the strip washing, and toileting, though can only use commode at the moment, got a toilet seat raiser but no room for handles, so can't use it at the moment.

Found a vein has gone hard what the canula was in, spots under my boobs and the worst the beginning of pressure sores. Have to use a pillow to keep my heels off the bed but not sure what to do about bum, tailbone, been up since 3am because of the pain and now have pain sitting as well. Anyone any advice to help prevent pressure sores, it makes it harder to get in and out of bed with the pillow there. I have only just managed to get into bed myself a couple of days ago.

Thanks Alice, have just done a big reply to worried girl . The strip washing I'm coping with, just bought a long handled sponge so I can do it myself, without getting hubby to do lower legs and feet.

Struggling with pressure sores, I use a pillow for my heels but makes getting in and out of bed harder. But my bum, tailbone hurts, I need something that allows space between bum and bed unless there is something else.

I have to do my precautions for 10weeks, that's when I see my consultant. I can't cope with getting pressure sores.

Lyn, i found sleeping in sox reall worthwhile, the slipper sox are the best as if you get to gonto the loo your ok, the hospital i had mine done gave them to all patients. Had them on all the time in hospital to.

Hi there this op is real and you are bound to feel apprehensive and

scared we all were just like you but the pain we suffer before the op

is so bad that we just have to grab every bit of strength we have and put

our faith in the wonderful surgeons and also the high level of success

this Operation has all over the world.

The morning I was going in for my op all the way I kept saying to my

husband I don't know if I can do this and was crying all the way which is

so not me he just kept saying just wait till you get there and if you are not happy I will take you home but he knew i would be fine once the doctors

and nursing staff were attending to me as I did have a lot of faith in the

surgeon and it was the best thing I have ever done and I thank them every morning I wake up pain free

I am nearly 12 weeks post op and I now can say I have my life back so

there is no harm in being afraid just be assured you will not regret it and a few weeks from now when you are walking painfree you will like all of

us hippies wonder what all the fuss was about 😀

    Good luck
