So confused.

Okay so first off I had a blood test about a month ago saying negative for hsv1 and hsv2 and then I slept with someone new and after only three days I noticed a scratch type thing in my lower buttcrack area...so I went to urgent care and they swabbed it and came back positive for hsv2. I'm so depressed and can't stop crying. I'm very confused. Can you have symptoms in only 3 days? Or could it be from the person I was sleeping with when I had my blood test. So distraught sad

Yes, you can have symptoms in that amount of time. Did you have unprotected sex with both partners? Either way the fact remains that you have it. Just let it sink in and know that this is soooo common. Your initial feelings are normal but eventually you won't even think about it. Your confused, angry, depressed, sad....All normal. I've been HSV-2 positive for ten years. I was very much blindsided by someone who very much knew he had this.

Yes both of them. Is it positive to have a false positive swab?? sad thank you. I just found out today and I'm in such denial it hasn't fully sank in yet... sad

Sweetie based on the facts you gotta start to accept it. You were swabbed. But you're amongst 2/3rds of the population. This is like the cold....It's common and pretty much everyone will be exposed to it at some point in their life. It's very misconceived. In 10 years....I've only had like 5 outbreaks. In 10 years!! It doesn't really even cross my mind anymore. I know the sob who gave this to me. I told his next gf too...but found out I told her too late. It's seriously not a big deal and with suppression you won't even have to deal with it. Seek counseling, talk to us here. But chin up girl! It's all going to be ok.

I know. I have to accept it I'm just in denial since I found out only a few hours ago. My outbreak was so mild compared to other stories ive read. Only a little pain and that's it. So I guess I'm lucky in that aspect. Thank you for your much needed words. Now I'm worried on how to talk to this dude rolleyes

A blood test doesn't get suspected sometimes .. It can take up to 6 months for them to be able to completely get a blood test from you ...

Swab test is the most accurate .. They called me and told me all my tests came back negative and I was good . Yet a day or two later they called me back and told me I was HSV positive type two .

Still indenial to this day.. A lot of things have to change once you realize you have this incurable disease .. But it teaches you and MAKES you learn that you just can't lay down with anyone.

Made me lose a lot of confidence , and I'm in a 4 year relationsHip.,. Makes me think I'm not worth the trouble. A lot of things

I constantly worry about pregnancy and possibly giving it to my significant other by accident .

Truth be told .. It's a life time disease so you have a lot a lot of time to let it sink it & get with it ..

    I can't even say I done that yet .

Man I know exactly what you are going through Katie but I promise the days do get better

I never did wait to get a good set of mind before calling the person that infected me . I couldn't

I was to sad , scared , mad and in my feelings to . I mean how can you knowingly affect someone with a disease ?

But ., that's my karma for thinking that I was invincible and couldn't be hurt . I use to look down on people like this now I am this person .

No one knows but my boyfriend and I don't think I will ever tell anyone . I don't want people getting the wrong idea of me .

Did the person who infected you let it be known that they had it. ?

What was your first initial outbreak like ?

When were you diagnosed? I'm so scared for future relationships and scaring someone away. Thanks for your words it means alot. I'm still in denial and can't believe I have it. I use to talk down on people with it just like you did and now I'm completely feeling different obviously. I'm going to be safe and be honest with my future partner. As of now I'm going to not have sex until I've came to terms with it and see my doctor. Still in shock to be honest. And yes this is my first ever outbreak and its very mild. Hardly any pain at all. Just discomfort. Mild uti feeling today but other than that okay. Ugh sad

Just to add to what everyone else has said here, if you have ever had cold sores before, that can cause gHSV-2 symptoms to be very mild to the point of being overlooked entirely.

I've had one cold sore in my life in high school due to stress. Can that mean anything?

Once you have it, it's for life, and oral hsv1 can have a lessening effect on genital hsv2, which is why it's so often missed or mistaken for something minor and unknowingly passed on as a result.

Oh okay I see. Thanks for the advice. Still in denial about all this.

Yeah, I know the feeling. It's a total shock, that's for sure! We've all been through the same, so at least you're not alone, if that counts for anything.
