So fed up!

Ok, I've been gluten, wheat, yeast and dairy free for over 3 weeks now and I absolutely feel no different! I'm constantly needing the loo for a bm and most of the time actually go so it's not just the sensation. My bm vary but are usually 5/6 per the Bristol stool chart! I honestly don't know where all the poo comes from, there's so much of it!!!!! This can't be normal!! My diet has been very bland recently with taking everything out of it,I take a probiotic tablet and drink magnesium supplement every day! I was really hoping this was food related, but am fearing its not!! I appreciate it's only been 3 weeks but I would have thought I'd have felt some difference!? I'm also extremely exhausted all the time and have constant growling/ rumbling in my bottom, not abdomen area!?? Also I fear having an accident as the feelings are that strong, quite often when I feel I need to pass wind I have to hold on as feel as though I'll poo myself😞😞 I have to keep taking loperamide in the hope it gives me a few hours poo free to go out some days! Really at the end of my tether and don't know what to do! Feel I needed to rant and this I feel is the best place for it! 😞😞xx

Have you tried Sourdough bread?, it is fermented just how it used to made for hundreds of years, I eat the white real sourdough bread, also probiotics, have you heard of Kefir?, it's a strong probiotic milk drink, I make my own, drink it every day, you could check these out loads of info.

Hi Martin, I've tried numerous attempts to make my own bread but keep failing!! As I can't have yeast it's so difficult! I'll have a look out for sour dough bread! No not heard of Kerfir I'll have a google!

      Many thanks 😉

I so can relate after 6 months of it - but I did have semonella which started it all - don't know what it's like to have one solid motion - I have found going off meat has helped. Only having fish and chicken and veggies on the fodmap diet.

You may have fructose malabsorption which maybe giving you these symptoms or are you under a lot of stress?

I'm sorry you have this I know it's hard to be calm

Surely is! Thanks Rhonda, I only eat chicken and ham meat wise anyway! I've just taken some Imodium in the hope I can take my little boy out this afternoon 😞 Xx

Ham meat could be doing it? On the fodmap diet it is a no no. Do you like fish? Cos that's very good for you. I had an idea I read magnesium can cause loose stools but I might be wrong.

Also you have to eat soluable diet not insoluable as that adds water to the stools - soluable acts like a sponge. Research which foods are soluable

Maybe you don't have a food intolerance or it is the probiotics that are causing it.  If you have only been on them for a short time, they can cause bowel habit change while you get used to them. The other possibility is that you are intolerant to a particular food but not to the items you have cut from your diet.  You could also try coming off the msgnesium supplement to see if you are reacting to that.

I'm starting to think that too!! I had a blood test done that showed up my intolerances though!? I've been on the probiotics since February! Also ironically I forgot to have magnesium yesterday, although that is a new supplement! This trial and error malarkey is soooo hard! Wish there was a test you can have done that show clearly what our issues are !! Hey ho onwards and upwards hey!! Xx

The more stressed you are the worse it can get..you end up going round in circles. I have found that fasting for a day(or 2 if you can) gives the body a rest and this has helped me with symptoms. Then eat as bland and well within those limitations as you can and see how you feel.

If the magnesium supplement is new, that maybe is the culprit rather than the probiotics since you have been taking them since February and so you will be used to those by now I would imagine.  Cut out the magnesium and stick to the probiotics and continue avoiding your problem foods and see if that makes a difference.

My dad told me when my stomach trouble began to think about anyrhing new I might.have added to my diet.  In my case, it was oranges to treat my constipation.  My doctor told me to cut them from my diet or reduce my intake of them to see if they were the cause of my stomach pain since eating oranges and the onset of symptoms appeared to coincide.  However, when I stopped the oranges, my symptoms became significantly worse day by day.  I went back on the oranges, and I felt 50% better!

It just shows that treating IBS is a minefield.  Before my diagnosis, it was one step forward and two back for three and a half months.

Thanks Pippa, I've had my issues daily now for the past year or so! I was hoping by stripping my diet I would feel better then reintroduce the foods and see what triggers, maybe I should do what you said go back to abnormal diet and see what

Happens! I don't think it's the magnesium as I was like this before I started taking it! It's a huge trial and error task I'm just scared of what to eat as I'm terrified of making myself worse!😞 Xx

Don't worry about what to eat.  This will increase your symptoms.  If you eat a food that triggers reactions, simply avoid that food.  Sometimes a food is fine one week but causes problems the following week.  If this happens, continue to avoid that food to be on the safe side. Try Fodmap to see if that uncovers anything.

Maybe ask to have your blood tests repeated to see if they still show food intolerances; maybe they showed a false positive.  It could be that food triggers are not your problem.  I found out that stress is the trigger for my IBS but no food aggravates it.  Food elimination showed up no problem foods for me.  But everyone is different.  We all have our own individual IBS.

Hi Flik:  All is have to do is look at a magnesium bottle and I have to run to the bathroom.  In order to get mag..into my body, I take a warm bath once or twice a week with a cup of epson salts and soak no more than 20 minutes.  Works for me. Why are you taking it?

I know the feeling of being afraid of putting food into your mouth.  I lost 16 lbs in a very short time -- big energy draw.  The mainstay in my diet is rice with butter.  Sometimes I add peas and canned chicken to the rice and that stays in me.  Corn flakes with banana and almond milk also stays in (cannot drink cows milk--altho I can eat cottage cheese).  I've recently put quinoa in my diet and that stays in.  Also, think spices -- helps to kick up that bland diet.  Ive now added digestive enzymes, a probiotic, and upped my B complex intake (been deficient in B12 for a long time without knowing it).  I keep Pedialyte on hand for those times that I'm depleted from so much loose stool passing thru and I'm trying to get more water into me to ward off dehydration.  I've had IBS on and off for 40 years.  I've changed my diet numerour times -- what works one day may not work the next.  Plus, the more stress you're under (sounds like a lot for you right now), the worse it gets.  chill out if you can and keep trying different combinations of food.  I couldn't eat beef for a long time and now my body craves it.  Fish, ham, beef and turkey seems to stay in along and eggs.   Good luck experimenting and I hope you hit upon a diet that works but most of all lessen your stress.

Thank you for your reply, our bodies are so complex! I am on a very bland diet now, rice chicken root veg etc and will see how I go! I've heard about Epsom salts I might try some sounds lovely having a relaxing bath!! I am under a lot of stress at the mo which I know is not helping but then when my stomach upsets it sets of my anxiety! Vicious circle I suppose!

Will keep experimenting and hope I soon find foods that suit me! Xx

I have had ,6 months of weird stooos mainly looser and thin stooksmworm like small pieces etc but what help me to have not so bad stools - still not perfect that much better was eating just chicken or fish with potatoes pumpkin and beans - no gluten or dairy no spices or sugar - I've been pretty much on the low fodmap diet.

Good luck with it - its just so distressing I know - my worry is that even though my diet is wonderful now I still can't f out on weight and even lost another couple of pounds probably from the better eating now. It worries me to lose weight is all.

      Take care
