so glad I found this group

Hi everyone.  I just found this site by accident while I was looking around for what I should expect during my thr. Dr said I had so much arthritis in both my hips that they are moving bone on bone.  But it's only the left one that's giving me trouble right now, so it's going to be replace on the first Tuesday in October. Sometimes I can't wait for it to be over, sometimes I just want to run away.  Just reading some of the entries here has given me hope that things will be O.K.  I'm petrified!! There's so many things that can go wrong.  Going to ask my dr for something for my nerves so I can get through these next weeks before the operation.   So many of you have been so helpful in answering question that I had before I even asked them.  I can't thank you enough.  I hope to continue reading the entries here right up till I have the surgery.  Thank you all for being here.

So glad you re on here Patricia!  I just  started yesterday.  Everyone is so nice.  I'm sure when I have a surgery date I will feel the same.  I know I'll have to stay calm and believe it will be fine.  My primary care told me the only thing his  patients say is I should have done it sooner.  We'll get through  this with a little help from our friends.😊😊

    Patricia,

I can sympathize with you 100% 2 weeks ago I was in your shoes, dying to get the suger done ( Aug 09) and scared to death. I worried about every little detail, needless to say what will be will be.  I worried over spinal and sedation vs a general and they tried the spinal it didn't work so used the GA, solved problem. Some things are out of our control.  We just need to have the knowledge needed and if you need something for anixiety then ask for it. I will say the first week post OP is the worst but it was still better than the week before the surgery. You have your surgery and are one step closer to full recovery each day. Before surgery it's another day of agony. So Look up  and do pre op exercises and get or keep yourself strong. You can do this, many of us have and we are all here to asnwer questions or cheer you on, what ever you need. Keep in mind we all are diffetn before surgery and we all have our own recovery. Do not compare yourself to others, identitfy with others.  tuesday I will be 2 weeks post op, it hasn't been all easy but the fright of surgery is behind me and each day I am stranger and better.  Praying for peace of mind for you, you will do great both of you ( you and M1954)!!

All the best, hugs to you both,

    Annette

Truly, right now is the worst part, I made myself crzy with every day the date grew closer, then I thought " all of these people have walked the same walk, probably with the same limp" I decided to give the worries to God and lock them in a box. Once they hook up the IV and give you something t relax you feel a peace.  Plus I do take clonopranz ( spelling) twice a day since my Mom passed away it helps anxienty.    We have really wonderful people on this site nd you cn find somene who has experience with pretty much anything you can ask about. I don't know what it would have been like without this forum.  Made it surprise free for me and I liked that.

      xoxox sending you hugggss.

    Welcome to the group Patricia.

And congratulations - you have already taken a big step along the journey with a date for your surgery. As Annette said in her post, spend your energy on getting ready for the operation. Dont worry about the operation itself as the team at the hospital will be great and will take good care of you.

There is fantastic advice on a site developed by one of the forum members who has created a layperson's guide to hip replacement. It is a great place to start. Go to his profile on this site to find the link to it: https://patient.info/forums/profiles/rocketman-sg6uk-907025 .

And of course, the moderator has assembled other useful links: https://patient.info/forums/discuss/thr-useful-resources-487147 .

Good luck on your thr journey.

    HHi Patricia

I found this forum by sheer accident y december last year when l was told at 42yrs old l needed both hips feplaced. I could not beleive it i was in l thought l am to young for this to happen ( another mistske) . It changed my life l have to say l.met some of the nicest most helpful people thar were going through the same or had been through it already and could help with any questions or fears l had but l also met people who were a lot younger. At the time Sarah was the youngest she 20 and her life had been basically hell plauged with operation after operaton think she has had 14 in total.now that girl was am inspiration to me then thrrrfýwere others from 20 years old up to 40 and above but l met some great mates who basically helped me through my 2 thrs. Without this forum l would have never got through it so easy and l have made a few good friends who l will have for life like Sarah she is like my little sister we talk everyday l just wished lived closer to her so l could see her but we will meet one day and l have also Cels who l became a good friend who has almost left the forum.now and is back to her normal.life playing bowls nearly everyday she to is a great friend and Soos from hawai gwho keeps in touch it was her son that had thr's and we ended up talking. Thats just a few there are some great people on this forum.and great friends who will be her to offer any advice or help or just to talk as it can be like a roller coaster of emotion going through thr's. I am done with my hips now they are great but l had more bad news after my hips l was told l.needed my knees replaced so l.am now 7 days post op from.my 1srt knee.. it was harder than hip replacement but again l have came back to my beloved hip.forum. i know there is a knee forum.but its not my home l have been in it and tried but its not the same. So my advice to you is hang in here it did me wonders and it could do the same for you. Fell free to contact me with any questions fears information or just to talk. I am stuck on my couch for a fair few weeks yet with a pain and rehab.

When is your 1st thr or is it already done. Look forward to hearing your story.

    Love

    Laura

    dear patricia,

warm welcome to this wonderful hippies forum where we share our personal stories and experiences - where you can find understanding and unconditional support - no better place to be when in need of anything - we all haven been there, done that or are about to - from getting the diagnoses, the fear, making the decision, more fear ... no one will understand what you are going through unless they have had THR -

So come back here anytime you have a question or concern, okay - and ask for anti anxiety medication -

you are not alone anymore !!!

    big warm hug

Welcome Patricia to this wonderful site which a lot of us have stumbled on.

Please read Graham's site which Linda has linked for you, it really is fantastic.

Like Annette said, don't compare yourself, we are all different & have completely different recovery rates depending on the severity of our hips. I'm now nearly 11 weeks post-op & going back to work on Thursday. My own personal recovery has been brilliant & I have had fantastic support from this forum. Please ask as many questions as you want, we are all here for each other x

I think be thinking if you were not scared about this surgery there might be something a little wrong with you mentally. Wonder if thats why the specialist was a little surprised with me when I was saying lets get on with this surgery, today please.

But I was lucky in some ways I had the family experience of an 80 year old uncle BILL, who told me off, five years before my surgery, he had delayed his surgery until he couldn't move, and even then was very reluctant to have the surgery, told me in no uncertain terms to go and get thoses hips seen too, he told me delaying was the silliest thing he had ever done, the sugery gave him back his life, he even had a girlfriend after losing his wife many years previous, and I couldn't even then keep up with him walking around the family home, thats why he was growling. He was such an inspiration, still is even though he has passed last year at 97.
