I know this discussion started a long time ago but I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate all of your comments. I had my knee surgery three weeks ago and I couldn’t figure out why I was always so tired and I don’t sleep well at night. It sounds like what I have been going through is pretty common so I will just stick with the slogan “pain is gain”.

Hi there I had a double knee replacement two years ago and believe me you don’t realize how much rest you really need when when you have it done just take your pain meds take it one day at a time baby steps and you’ll see the results going through I’m so glad I had it I would highly recommend anyone that is going through with the pain like I had I was little he bone on bone go ahead and get it done but check for a good surgeon I had another surgery was a total douche and then I had the second surgery was amazing he did but he did my surgeries so good luck it does get better

Oh, time will be on your side.  You will be so happy you had the knee replaced. 1 year and 2 months out and I would do it again. I can't bend on it but I don't have the constant pain I was originally having.  So worth it.  You will be glad you had it done.  If on meds (tramadahl) get off them sonner than later and eat/drink and before you know it you will be replying to next person the way I am.  Happy Easter and have a beautiful day,

Hi there and congratulations sweetie you’re so new into the recovery there are days that you feel you can’t do anything at all believe me I’ve been there you just have to realize it’s not an easy recovery it’s a difficult recovery I was like you when I went to PT I was in so much pain doing it but then again I realized no pain no gain for me I push myself further than what I what I should have done but it worked out for me in the end going on two years now and I don’t have the pain or anything like I had before best device I can give you a rest rest rest elevate ice listen to your doctor and when you Feel like you need to take meds do them listen to your body it’ll let you know when you’re tired enough that you need to stop good luck with your recovery

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op for knee replacement. The knee does not hurt to walk on, but the muscles of the shin and calf are inflamed, swollen and very painful. This makes physio therapy painful, but ice, anti inflammatory drugs and pain killers offer relief. I am walking well and my knee flexion is 123 degrees. However, I am so exhausted! Just making the bed, sends me back into it once again! By 6:30 p m I can barely make it to my bedroom. Thus, reading the messages on this site encourages me in that I see that this is normal. Normally, I bounce back quickly and this fatigue has me puzzled. Thank you folks for sharing!

I’m now 11 months out. I walked around in a fog with no energy the first 3 months and then I got much better. Some speculated that it was so long under the general anesthetic. Since I have no other explanation, I accept that as possible. The soreness from my knee is mostly gone. I gained flexibility every month. I got the impression that you could only do that the first 4 or 5 months, but my knee is almost as flexible as the other one now.  I will not do the other one unless it gets really painful. This is a lot to go through. I’m grateful it’s done. Now if I could figure out what to do to fix my chronic migraines!! They’re awful!! Good luck to all.

Well, I have not posted I a super long time. I had one total knee done in 2016 of December and the second done in May of 2017, and then my hubby had both done at same time in July of 2017! I am a nurse and full time back at work and buzzing around , and my husband did better than me! For me, I live near a great high school ( 5 min ) away that offers water aerobic drop in classes for 3 $ and I still go whenever I can and this keeps me flexible and has helped my recovery a lot! Good luck to all having total knee surgery! I am now hoping to lose weight.

I agree. My TKR was 6 weeks ago. ROM is up to 130 and my PT is pleased. I am 69 and have degenerative OA. I cannot do much in the home, cooking, cleaning, etc. Also don't sleep well. Everyone says this is typical but I can't travel, grocery shop, and church wears me out. A shower and getting dressed is a project 😩No stamina yet, but I plan to beat this. Not going to sleep through retirement.

Your ROM is terrific!. I know it’s frustrating, but try to be patient with yourself. I’m also 69 and had  my first TKR  in March 2017 and my second in January 2018.Although I am still having some trouble sleeping my energy level is much better and I am gradually returning to various activities.

      It really will get better!
