Socks!

Well fellow hippies I wanted to share a story from so morning. My other half has taken dog out for a walk along the beach this morning so thought I would go for a shower (with the telephone). I dried, I went upstairs and used my dressing aids and pulled on my Knicks followed by my trousers and got dressed no problem. I them came down stairs and thought other half goes back to work next week, perhaps I should try to put some socks on by myself. I had a brainwave of using my dressing aids, which I don't know about anyone else's but mine are 2 pieces of band with a safety pin on each end. So I clipped the socks onto the pins and spent 15, yes 15, minutes trying to get a loose pair of socks! I succeeded! Wahoo yay party time.

Then it occurred to me... How I am going to undo the safety pins which are now attached to my socks and to the string which they are attached to! So now I am sat here with wwarm feet but attached to 2 1 metre lengths of rope so daren't walk anywhere because I'm likely to I trip up. Luckily others half has just walked through the door to unclip me! its made me laugh my socks off! excuse the pun!!!

oh the joys of having a THR! If i don't laugh I'll cry. cheesygrin

I thought my tale would amuse you fellow hippies. I am in the UK down in Torquay. The aids I was given by the hospital comprise of 1 toilet riser thing, one tubie grip bandage about a meter in length to help raise my leg in and out of bed and 2 lengths of rope, each about a meter in length with a safety pin on each one to pull on knickers and trousers. That's it. Oh I forgot about the slipper socks with gripping on both top and bottom so you can get more than one day wear out of them.... You can't put the socks on, so perhaps they're just to tease you.

i think I will google sock putter oners to see if I can buy one. although I'm not sure that's the technical term for them!

What a lively fun discussion this is...   I think u are all brilliant trying to get socks on.  My hubby can't get anywhere near his feet cuz of swelling so I'm the sock putter one for now but he's gonna have to learn soon. Lol... Will look at these devices and see if I can buy one. He wasn't given anything from the hospital ....

In the US the sock assist comes with a grabber, back scrubber, an elongated shoehorn  and clothing assist for getting clothes/ bedding moved.it is about $30 . They call it the post op hip assortment or hip helpers. I use all of them but shoe horn and sock assist are my favorite. Also can buy parts individually if you want.

I feel really smug!   I have permanently hot feet due to Arthritis and Lupus and don,t need to wear socks!  I did,nt wear Teds for that reason!

i did have knicker trouble though.  Trying to lasso my foot with them did,nt work and gave the cat hysterics!  I tried with the grabber and succeeded in the end!  After two weeks I could do it myself without any aids.  More smugness!  The cat now finds it boring to watch me!

    thanks for the giggles!
