Some advice please

Hi sorry for posting again, but my doctors don't seem much help at all and not even offered me Flu and Pneumonia injections. Perhaps because it's not that bad yet not sure.

But i was wondering what diets health exercise and vitamins i should be taking if any. I can't eat many things because of my acid reflux and worried that my lungs will get worse.

Things i do now are walking and some thread mill exercise which i find gets my heart and lungs working better than walking to be honest.

In addition if you have a diagnosis of COPD you can ask your doctor for these.

and if you had a diagnosis of COPD you can also ask for a referral to a pulmonary rehabilitation course where you will learn both annual flu shots and the pneumonia shot is recommended.

Just to repeat myself further you won't get any referrals or medications recommended for COPD unless you have a confirmed diagnosis.  Only your doctor, or respiratory consultant can tell you that.

I think in your shoes you should maybe concentrate on the other illness that you are dealing with, these we are not able to help you with but your doctors can. Since there is no confirmed COPD diagnosis, we are not able to help any further than we have already.

I am going to ask when i go for my barium meal results hopefully in the next 2 weeks, if they come back ok the problems they found will be gallstones / bowel problem which is nothing small hiatus hernia and this emphysematous changes which they said is from smoking. But british lung foundation said it could be from acid plus asked if i had Asthma test which i never.

If there is no confirmed diagnosis we are all just batting into the wind.  Nothing can be advised without it and certainly we cannot advise on your health in general.

A diagnosis of your input into a result check is not a diagnosis from a medical professional.

No i know but i thought emphysematous changes was COPD

Hi my doctor phoned today asked him about the pulmonary rehabilitation course he said he can't refer me because it's not bad enough sad but said i am doing all the right things with my exercise.

So i asked what is it i have he said years ago it would be called emphysema / bronchitis now it's under the same umbrella as COPD, he's got no images or anything but said when i go back to hospital for results of the barium meal you can ask the specialist if it's both lungs or one and where abouts and so on.

I am looking at what you have told us and it is very bizarre.  I do not understand your doctor or doctors.  What in the world they are thinking is beyond my comprehension.  I would actually in your case go to another doctor for a second opinion.  It is not normal for a doctor to give you a diagnosis of Bronchitis/COPD/Emphsema then tell you to go get a barium swallow..  I understand about the gerd and hernias, but none of this should affect your breathing.  Personally I would find another doctor...throw all the mess away from the previous one and start this all over again.  Something is just not adding up.  Just remember there are good doctors practicing, and there are bad doctors practicing.  You just stay on course, and get yourself to another doctor asap.  Your not in any danger from what you have reported but like one of the COPD members wrote we are batting in the wind with this kind of diagnosis....Keep us posted and God Speed.  Breathless.

i UNDERSTAND YOUR BARIUM....ACID REFLUX CAN DAMAGE AND ERODE YOUR VOCAL CHORDS ETC.  SO MAKE SURE YOU GET THAT DONE.  IT IS  A GOOD IDEA TO ELEVATE YOUR HEAD AT NIGHT WHILE SLEEPING TO KEEP THAT ACID REFLUX FROM GETTING INTO THAT AREA OF THE THROAT.  IT CAN BE DANGEROUS WHEN IT GETS TO THAT POINT.  JUST BE ALERT....THEN GET ANOTHER DOCTOR FOR YOUR PULMONARY OR LUNG OPTIONS.  BE CAREFUL....BREATHLESS.
