sore throat, globus

I have had a globus sensation that comes and goes. Weird things have been happening since the beginning of the the year. It all started after a took some rounds of antibiotics. My neck started feeling tight around the sides. It started getting worse and after a few months, It got so tight that I went to the ER twice cause I thought I was dying. I have had lots of tests but there are more to do. Ive had 2 barium swallows( one looking for abnormal blockage and on for a hernia), xrays, thyroid blood work, pepsin tests, and 3 scopes, everything came out fine. Ive been to several ENTs and nothing unusual showed up. The specialist assured me its not cancer.
I still havent done a ph test and havent had my esophogus scoped, just my throat which has cobblestones in it and also appears swollen at the voicebox.Ive tried reflux medicines on and off during these periods, i was on protonix for a month with no improvement, the doctor did say to stay on it for 3 months but it make me feel nausious. Perhaps the worst symtom is I have had a sore throat going on 6 months now.
Does anyone with silent reflux also have globus and a cronic sore throat?

I am new on here and have been doing a little research and have found this website. It seems like most of you have the same symptoms as I do. I woke up one day with my gums on the right side of a molar tooth hurting and very sore. I went to the dentist and they said that it was abscessed and that I needed a root canal. I took the antibiotics and it went away and did not go back to get the root canal because when I was there before they even told me anything I was just lying there and they started to grind away my crown without even telling me. They said they were prepping it for a root canal that it needed it. Anyways a week or so after the 1st round of antibiotics I woke up and the left side of my face was swollen by the ear. The gland back there. So I went to a new dentist and they said that it kind of looked like this other tooth is the one that is abscessed but they did not know for sure as it had a root canal in the past and said that maybe they did not get all the root, but he did not want to touch it until he knew for sure. I took another round of amoxicillin and no help. I went back and he gave me a round of Z pack or something like that. While this is going on I get a real bad cold! I took the antibiotics and somewhere around the time I was finishing these antibiotics my throat got sore. I figured it was the cold or the tooth.
Anyways that was in the beginning of January and I still have a sore throat/tight pressure in my neck. I have had a lot of drainage in the back of the throat and the doctor didn’t see anything wrong so he recommended me go see a ENT specialist. They took a culture of the drainage and no bacteria in it. Now they want me to try reflux meds but it would take two weeks they said to know a difference if that was the problem. Or I could put a probe in my nose for 24hrs to measure the PH. Or have a CT scan. I opted for the CT since I have been worrying about this as being something more serious like throat cancer or a thyroid issue. I am waiting to get the appointment for a CT and have decided to look online even thought I hate to because of all the scary crap you can read on here.
Has anyone got a definite answer on there condition?
Thanks
Mike

I am scheduled to see the GI at the end of the month and im going to ask for a PH test to confirm if I have gerd or not. The upper GI endoscope apparently cannot tell if one has reflux, only the PH test. Personally, I now do NOT believe I have reflux. I have been on PPIs for months with no improvement whatsoever. I do not have a hernia according to my 2 barium swallows.
Im pretty confused as to what this could be. Ive gone through many stages but now im getting numb hands and feet occasionally. Before I had lots of phlegm but that went away.
My throat doesnt really feel sore like before. However, the globus is still very strong and persistant. It never lets up.

I will not say I am healed as of yet , but I suffered for over a month with this everyday from the time my feet hit the ground to the time I went to bed , I was starting to sleep a whole lot due to the fact I was getting depressed from it i never went to the Doctor although I should have and was just about to make a call to get into a ENT and I decided to try some things being I could not find a pattern to any of this feeling . I seemed to have it worse right after eating also and it would move sometimes it would be upper right of my throat or middle or lower ( crazy ).. I cut lettuce out of my diet and anything hard to digest also I started rubbing my throat everytime i got this sensation i would rub both sides of my throat at the sametime as if I was playing a ping pong match on my throat for some reason this stopped the sensation also when ever I would drink something I found using a straw was better it made me swallow in moderation i am on day 2 with only a few small episodes compared to all day every hour on the hour , so everytime I get this feeling i start playing ping pong on my throat rubbing both sides and it goes away and today has been my best day so far... Not sure if what I am doing is the reason but I am hoping for each day to get better,,,,,,we will see..

Appreciate your input. Still got mine. It comes and goes. Noticed that if I worry a lot the more it would be intense. Wheneve I am eating or drinking I don't feel it. Yep I tried doing tha pingpong as lightly as possible thinking tha I might dislocate some muscles or nerves there.I also try to listen to Throat Chakra Activation and helaing meditaion. I 've been planing to see an accupuncturist ,but it is still up in the air. Last night I took Zantac and I felt good waking up and Omeprazole this morning.Thing is I can hear gurgling sounds in my throat I wonder maybe the acid aregoing crazy on that area there. and also this morning I had 2 episodes of burps.Happy for you that you know what to do if the symptoms are bugging you...Take care for now

Hi, just curious as to how you're doing with this issue now. My method worked for a short while and back to the same old same old . So as of 8 months now it has been gone I took my omeprazole daily which helped but I think my culprit was actually my teeth after getting my mouth healthy the sensation disappeared I ask my dentist about it and he said most definitely bad teeth can cause this sensation especially if there is any kind of infection even if it's as simple as inflamed gums from bacteria. Our mouth is the passage way to our internal organs.... just some food for thought..I am this message finds you feeling better....

great to hear form you again. globus comes and goes for me. it is worst when i am anxious or overly stressed.I really appreciate you taking time to share this.Watched in the news few days back that researchers showed that serotonin that are usually found in the brain that affects are mood, behaviour, can also be found in our gut. On top of that the vagus nerve is also conencted to what we are thinking and digesting at the same time.thanks once again.hope you ae well.

I know tis is 9 months old but I thought I would let you know I am pretty much going through the samething you are going on a little over a month now , I am not a Doctor but I can share with you the only thing that seems to help me when I am having this . I rub my throat on both side as if i was playing ping pong on my throat i do that for about a minute and for some odd reason the sensation stops for awhile.. I know it souds strange but I was so sick of this feeling coming and going so much through the day I started my own little test.. Also I found if I drank through a straw it also helped ... Hope you are feeling better ...

I have the same case and struggling with same since last 1 month.
Please read these 2 articles....Gave me courage and confidence .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricopharyngeal_spasm
No real 'cure' exists, the sufferer must simply wait for it to fix itself.
I reasearched alot and gargle with salt water is the best way to fix the problem.
I am doing it just twice a day and it gives instant relief. However experts says gargle as many times you can.
Try sucking candies ...that also helps me.
In my case i had a weired experience too.
1. Short of breath while speaking
2. Lost a bit clarity/pronouncation while speaking
these are gone since i controlled my acid reflex.
In my case it was the side effect/allergies from the whey protien supplemement.

i eliminated those from my diet.
1. whey protien
2. Chocolates and coffee
3. Tooth paste - i started using a new product for extra whitening. Stopped using that. (this may not be a cause for reflux but i suspect this causing throat allergy.)
After elimaniting first 2 items .....my reflux went away without any medicine. I also started doing exercise and controlled my weight. I reduced from 190 pounds to 175 pounds.
However looks like reflux already did the damage. This throat problem started somewhere when i experienced reflux.
This throat problem was still there and healed last week only.
for medicines, initially doc gave anti-biotic, anti-allergies, ammune booster and anti-reflex.
I took those for around 2 weeks but no improvement.
I also went thorough the laryngoscopy but that screen also didnt find anything.
last week i tried these medicines and it really solved the problem:
1. NSAID - anti inflammatory drug. I suspect inflamation can be casue of the throat problem. 1 tab twice a day for 3-4 days.
2. Took anti-reflux medicine since i read about silient reflux.
tool one tab empty stomach in the morning.(Pantpprazole )
3. Gargles 3-4 times a day with salt water - warm water
now i am really feeling much better. I dont know what fixed the problem but i feel NSAID and Gargles.
Also dryness can be a problem. I realised one thing if i produce some saliva and then swallow the same. I dont feel that Globus. But if i swallow with less saliva i have that Globus feeling. I tried sucking candies whihc helps in generating saliva and helps in dry throat. Now i am not using candies.Just drink lot of water.
Thats all about how i recovered. Of course its not 100% fine but i will say i am 90% fine.
I hope speedy recovery for all of us.
