sore throat, globus

I have had a globus sensation that comes and goes. Weird things have been happening since the beginning of the the year. It all started after a took some rounds of antibiotics. My neck started feeling tight around the sides. It started getting worse and after a few months, It got so tight that I went to the ER twice cause I thought I was dying. I have had lots of tests but there are more to do. Ive had 2 barium swallows( one looking for abnormal blockage and on for a hernia), xrays, thyroid blood work, pepsin tests, and 3 scopes, everything came out fine. Ive been to several ENTs and nothing unusual showed up. The specialist assured me its not cancer.
I still havent done a ph test and havent had my esophogus scoped, just my throat which has cobblestones in it and also appears swollen at the voicebox.Ive tried reflux medicines on and off during these periods, i was on protonix for a month with no improvement, the doctor did say to stay on it for 3 months but it make me feel nausious. Perhaps the worst symtom is I have had a sore throat going on 6 months now.
Does anyone with silent reflux also have globus and a cronic sore throat?

Hi folks, dunno whether this will help anyone but I know what I was like at the start so someone might find it useful
I had some general symptoms for about a year although I didn't put them together until after everything had struck - on/off sore eyes, more prone to being rundown and infections, sinus issues, that type of thing. I'd had some real problems with a dodgy tooth and sinus pain and therefore had taken several antibiotics, then had the really nasty 'can't drink alcohol with this antibiotic' to clear up a stubborn infection which set off the eyes more.
I then had an allergic reaction to hair dye a few months later, causing some food intolerances (salicylates) and a growing problem with GERD, including what felt like IBS symptoms and acid reflux. The acid seemed to cause a sore throat, headache at the base and right of the top of the head, and this tightening 'lump' right at the top of the rib cage where that little hollow is. At the very beginning I was getting spasms which made it feel like I was having a heart attack, thankfully those quietened down after a few weeks
I was on strong antihistamines at the time which actually made the dratted lump worse as apparently my stomach disliked them tremendously, had a course of pred. and also some PPI then ranitidine to tackle the severe acid reflux I appeared to get (they didn't help).
I've managed to get rid of the lump in the throat(mostly, it's still being temperamental) with an unexciting diet that I'm trying to increase at the moment and probiotics in the morning - first thing so it's more likely to go into the stomach - and then digestive enyzmes before meals. Main aim for me was to improve digestion to avoid any problems with the acid build up or poor digestion. Daftly enough, an old Japanese recommendation of having a cup of hot-warm water half an hour after a meal also seems to help as well, and at the very least it's good for hydration!
Probiotics I used was Physis Advanced Probiotics as that has a number of good bacteria including L.casei, various Bifidobacterium and so forth, and to clear up a probable yeast overgrowth I used Saccharomyces boulardii which is also a yeast but has a good reputation to sort out yeast overgrowth without being a problem. This last one actually allowed me to start eating sugar again
Once the stomach settled down I started to wean myself slowly off the stomach medication to avoid the kick back - because the PPIs etc affect the stomach acid to work you can start getting problems from digestion as a result so I wanted to be off them as soon as possible
The other thing I was going to recommend was Vitamin D (Cod Liver Oil specifically, but that's only because I can feel the difference in my eyes if I don't have it) and also magnesium. Magnesium is generally good for you anyway as most people are apparently deficient in some way, but it may well help those with a tight feeling in their neck as it apparently can relax muscles more.
Needless to say, if you have far too much relaxing going on in the neck already then it may not be a good idea, but might help those who have more anxiety based muscle tension
Other aspect to consider is that it may give a bit of diarrhoea for the same muscle relaxant reason, but that'll depend on the individual
Hope folks feel better soon, or at least find something that works for them

Yeees, I do!
I had hiatal hernia surgery with banding over a year ago, still having mucus in throat, sore red throat, with severe throat clearing. Also choking easily on food and liquids.
I've been told to stay away from all dairy and gluten.
I'm doing this with occasional slip up, with modertely good results .. symptoms bad after coffee with heavy cream, my favorite.

Jay40m,
Our stories are the same. My GLOBUS started after my doctor said I had a Virus(His opinion) at the end of January. No antibiotics for me. The tightness started around the lymphs underneath my jawbone, then settled below the Adam's apple. I've had ENT scope it was normal. I had Gastro Endoscopy and it was normal. So I am diagnosed with GLOBUS. During this time I started getting headaches that went from the back of the head behind the ear to the top of the head. The back of my neck was soo stiff that when I'd shower, the water hitting it would make the muscles draw up, very uncomfortable. And the front of my neck underneath my SCM muscle would pain along with the GLOBUS. Here I am in November and I still have bouts of GLOBUS and front neck pain and milder headaches. A chiropractor loosened the back of my neck. The chiro took x-rays and told me I had Degenerative Disc Discease as well as a bone spur.
Also like Jaguar1,
About 7 months before the GLOBUS I did have a problem with GERD/Acid Reflux. I stayed bloated and full all the time. And I had a "pain right at the top of the rib cage where that little hollow is" just like Jaguar1 described. I had a CT scan and that was normal. It corrected itself over 2 months with Pepcid Complete and FODMAP diet.
It's unclear to us all, even doctors of the true problem. We could be experiencing a chain reaction of problems. If I had to guess I would say that perhaps it is bacteria related from the gut, it may not have anything to do with Acid. I should have stuck to the FODMAP diet that made my stomach somewhat normal, then (MAYBE) I would not have gotten GLOBUS.
