Sore throat right side and enlarged right lingual tonsil for a year

im really out of my mind and stressed about my situation.

im 32 yr old male, smoking for 14 years but light smoker for the past 9 years (5 cig a day)

anyway its all started a year ago with numb throat pain on my right side. i thought its something viral that will go away and after arround 2-3 months it did ease abit but never went away, 3 months ago the pain started to intensify only this time i started to feel pain in right side of the tongue along with the right sore throat but i couldnt see anything suspicious, a month ago i have pulled my tongue out and saw a lump, deep on the right side, i went to my gp wich was very concerd about it and send me to a mouth specialist, while waiting for my appointment to the specialist i went to th ent wich saw it and gave my antibiotic and cream for the lump and sended me to urgent us scan of thyroid..

couple days later i went to the mouth specialist wich said its not likely to be cancerous and identified the lump as an enlarged "lingual tonsil" but with not special pathology. she told me that she though that i have acid reflux as she saw traces in my throat and also told me to not take the antibiotics that the ent gave me as it wownt help for the lump. she also thought she feel some enlarged lymph node in my neck so  she sended me to do a us neck scan and continue the check with endoscopy from ent and also a gastro specialist to make endoscopy to see if there gerd problem and prescribed nexium. meanwhile 2 weeks passed and the nexium has no effect , the pain is still there in my right side throat and also back in my right side tongue. i had a neck ultrasound a week ago  wich said no evidence of enlarged lymph nodes wich is so weird as i fill like my neck is swallen, tight. i should have an ent appointment this week but im suffering so much i have no idea what to do next.  i feel alone in this as i have found anyone on the internet with same problem as mine, i searched many places but couldnt find a similar person with same symptoms and im out of my mind for what this could be. im very concernd about cancer as this started a year ago. also im almost sure that my throat pain is related to the tongue pain from the enlarged lingual tonsil.

please if anyone can advise or help me or have any similar symptoms please reply my thread and share, im desperate this ruining my life and i dont know what to do anymore or whats going on.

    Hi !! I have had the same issues for the past 2-3 weeks. There is pain in the right side below the jawline, the neck feels tightened, occasionally pinching pain and throat feels congested. Recently I had a severe throat infection which is fine now but these symptoms make me worry. Kindly keep us posted if any solution to the problem is found and thanks for sharing your experience.

    Hello Jordan and everyone. I'm devin and have very similar symptoms as described by many of you. With a few other symptoms I'm worried sick, losing sleep thinking, and sometimes absolutely sure, I have cancer.. I'm trying to be optimistic and think positive but I have so many symptoms. This thread has helped ease my mind for a couple weeks now so I want to share my experience so far.

    For me about 3 months ago I had complained to my gp of a sore throat and swollen tonsil just on my right side that hasn't gone away for weeks and also swollen lympth node under my right jaw. He said acid reflux told me to get over the counter extra strength acid reflux pills so I bought a 24 pack used them all 2 day and symptoms still persist. I should mention I'm a 29 year old male and as of last month was a heavy smoker (pack a day strong smokes) and smoke marijuana everyday. I still smoke weed but usually a half joint or a joint a day. Anyway, about a month ago I noticed a bubble looking lump right beside my uvula so I went back to gp and he's made an ent appointment for me I go to in 2 weeks. Apon further inspection of my mouth I have found another lump very red on the side of my tounge way back. On top of that my tounge is always coated in a white layer. So now I have and have had for months, at least one swollen lympth node under my jaw, get pretty big sometimes, I have a lump in back my throat in between uvula and right tonsil, right tonsil always swollen and painfull and a lump on the side of my tounge and jus recently by sticking my tounge way out I noticed my lingual tonsil the lumps on back of tounge are much bigger and swollen on just the right side... I am totally freaking out. I also went to my dentist he prescribed me antibiotics which I finished last month and seemed to do nothing.. I have a theory that the right side lingual tonsil swelling is due to constant (like 10 times a day) sticking my tounge out to one side and looking at this red bump on the side of my tounge. But I cannot be sure. The bump may also be from my back moler as it sticks out a tiny bit and if I stick my tounge out it kinda lines up with the bump, but it's not like I'm putting my tounge in the position really ever. Also for years I've had 2 very hard pea sized lump on the left side my neck lower down was told it's nothing by gp years ago and I have a hard swollen lympth node behind my left year that gets sore when I have headaches. Anyway I'm waiting for the appointment with ent and saw another Dr and already got another ent lined up in a month or so because I'm so sure it's something bad.. I will continue to update this as I see the specialist.

      Devin, with it being on one side...it's not likely to be cancer at all. I was also told acid reflux but my endoscopy only showed mild acid reflux. Mine is always on my right side. It comes and goes. You can always have a complete blood count test to check for cancer but it's really highly unlikely. It's definitely inflammation of some sorts. I was on antibiotics too but some bacteria infections especially in the tonsil area do not respond to antibiotics. You may want to get an upper endoscopy at your gastrologist just to make sure.

      Hello jeremy, thankyou that is reassuring to hear. I actually did get blood work done last year when I was concerned about persistent sore throat, and swollen lympth nodes. My white blood cell count was lower than average but I was told it was likely because of the major injury and surgery I had about six months prior to the test, I had a double compound fracture of my tibia and fibula falling at work and 3 major surgeries. So that was kinda another red flag that worried me so I'm going to get blood work again after I see the specialist here soon I think. And okay that's good to hear I didn't know antibiotics may not have an effect, I immediately assume something sinister.. another thing was my gp gave me a thoat swob thing and sent it to the lab and it came back fine, which made me think it's not bacterial but I'm not sure. As I feel the swollen lympth node right now behind my jaw under ear area it gotten harder and rubbery but I believe I have felt it like this before a couple years ago and actually thought it was from getting hit a few times in the jaw over the years. It still hurts a bit to swollow right now and I also found another small bump just above my Adams apple on the right. I've been feeling it so often I have red rashes there now, trying to find it on the other side but I can't that one's freaking me out cuse it's real hard. Another things is I have white patches on my soft palate tonsil ridges, I think it's called, the area behind my molers and in front my tonsils that when I brush with an electric tooth brush the one side bleeds slightly I asked my dentist if this could be luikoplakia and he said it could be and gave me anti bacterial mouthwash which I finished and seemed to also do nothing. Also my voice has changed and become difficult to speak at some times. I will let you guys know what happens in my case after I see the specialist, thanks again jeremy

      Devin , I have the exact same thing, white patches and all. No cause is ever found but it comes and goes. I get pain under my jaw too but if it was anything bad, it would have made itself known by now. I get the rough voice too. Good luck

    Hi everyone,

    I have a similar problem like most of you. Sore throat that doesn't go away. Worst in the morning and late night when dry air while sleeping. Tonsils and glands in throat hurt. I get tonsil stones. This comes and goes but sometimes it can really be uncomfortable for weeks on end. Hurts behind the ears sometimes. I do have acid reflux pretty bad sometimes. The back of my throat looks red if you ask me and sometimes get red blotches on the palate. I just noticed today the blotch. Anyhow this has been going on for 11 1/2 years. Worried it might be HIV and got false negative tests because when it first happened I got tested (standard and RNA) because I thought I got it from a girl I picked up one night. Taken a few stupid risks when younger but very rarely. Was obsessed with hiv and had my self tested so much my doctor thought I was paranoid, but continued to test again at 3 mos, 6 mos, and 3 years out. Symptoms persisted with sinus pain, gland and throat pain. Started to wonder if the tests were wrong. So I did two home tests and they were negative. Anyhow dating someone now and its serious and worried I could give her this hell that I'm in. Really want to have a future with her. Not sure what to do. PS: Also went through the throat scope procedure of which nothing remarkable was found except a schatze ring whatever that is. Had like 6 ENTs look at me and cameras up my nose a few times over. Scared.

      My endoscopy has revealed inflammation in the throat, but only mild acid reflux so it doesn't make sense why mine is always soar either. Doctors won't pursue it anymore

      Hi David ..How are you doing ?I am suffering from same problem .i have persistent sore throat for year now .i have been to many doctors and did enough tests including hiv but all came back negative .Did you able to trace the issue pls share with me what was the reason.I will be thankful
