Sore throat right side and enlarged right lingual tonsil for a year

im really out of my mind and stressed about my situation.

im 32 yr old male, smoking for 14 years but light smoker for the past 9 years (5 cig a day)

anyway its all started a year ago with numb throat pain on my right side. i thought its something viral that will go away and after arround 2-3 months it did ease abit but never went away, 3 months ago the pain started to intensify only this time i started to feel pain in right side of the tongue along with the right sore throat but i couldnt see anything suspicious, a month ago i have pulled my tongue out and saw a lump, deep on the right side, i went to my gp wich was very concerd about it and send me to a mouth specialist, while waiting for my appointment to the specialist i went to th ent wich saw it and gave my antibiotic and cream for the lump and sended me to urgent us scan of thyroid..

couple days later i went to the mouth specialist wich said its not likely to be cancerous and identified the lump as an enlarged "lingual tonsil" but with not special pathology. she told me that she though that i have acid reflux as she saw traces in my throat and also told me to not take the antibiotics that the ent gave me as it wownt help for the lump. she also thought she feel some enlarged lymph node in my neck so  she sended me to do a us neck scan and continue the check with endoscopy from ent and also a gastro specialist to make endoscopy to see if there gerd problem and prescribed nexium. meanwhile 2 weeks passed and the nexium has no effect , the pain is still there in my right side throat and also back in my right side tongue. i had a neck ultrasound a week ago  wich said no evidence of enlarged lymph nodes wich is so weird as i fill like my neck is swallen, tight. i should have an ent appointment this week but im suffering so much i have no idea what to do next.  i feel alone in this as i have found anyone on the internet with same problem as mine, i searched many places but couldnt find a similar person with same symptoms and im out of my mind for what this could be. im very concernd about cancer as this started a year ago. also im almost sure that my throat pain is related to the tongue pain from the enlarged lingual tonsil.

please if anyone can advise or help me or have any similar symptoms please reply my thread and share, im desperate this ruining my life and i dont know what to do anymore or whats going on.

I have a similar problem. I had my second tonsillectomy in October 2015, yes my palatine tonsils grew back after the first one, plus I had an abscess in my right tonsil. Ever since surgery my lingual tonsils swell up and cause me a lot of pain and discomfort. They are very swollen right now and I feel like there's a big lump in the back middle portion of my tongue. My ENT did a scope two days ago and said my lingual tonsils are very prominent, but everything else looks fine and it might be tonsillitis so he prescribed me an antibiotic. It has been almost two years since my surgery and I have had nothing but problems with my lingual tonsils now. I have been told it's acid reflux and allergies as well. So I take nexium when I have flares and started allergy drops. Has anyone here had their lingual tonsils removed? I hate feeling the lump behind my tongue and feeling like I'm being choked. It's a very scary feeling and I also feel alone.

Hello to all, I just registered on here after reading alot of people suffering with lingual tonsils. My son 28 yrs has had this for over a year. He could not chew food property and swallow and his neck swelled. They did have to remove a salivary stone that was deep, therefore he had to go into hospital for surgery. He also has a swollen lingual tonsil. He did have a biopsy and tonsil was benign, so happy for that. He has been to several ents, which say from acid reflux. Has been taking meds for year and still has problems. He can only eat certain foods, no meats at all. He chokes alot and seems to speak differernt at times. He has been also to a throat specialist in Baltimore and same. Went to a gasteologist for upper gi and his dentist.

He has spent thousands for his deductible is so high. He is frustrated and doesn't know what else to do. Anyone who has any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am 29 and going through a similar thing as your son. They keep telling me its acid reflux and when I take medication and alter my diet it does not seem to help my lingual tonsils. They swelled up after I had my palatine tonsils removed. I talk differently at times as well when they are more swollen. I noticed tomato sauces and anything acidic makes my lingual tonsils worse.

Hi I'm a 32 year old female.. my problem started about 10 months ago, I started experiencing a sharp pain in my right tonsil or right side of my throats which would come on once or twice a week.. i had an endoscopy done in October last year which showed I had gastritis and a hiatel hernia so I was given  pantazol for the acid reflux. In December I had a really bad viral cold that went on for about 6 weeks which made the right side sharp pain worse, I would get sharp pain a couple of times a day.. in march this year the pains got a little worse with a tender feeling under my right jaw aswell which I thought was swelling of the lymph node.. I also had jaw pain and pain in my gums and right sided throat pain.. I went to the doctors to which they prescribed antibiotics for a throat infection based on my symptoms.. which didn't help, the swelling under my jaw did go but came back. Then I went to the dentist and she said I have gum infection so I was prescribed more antibiotics.. that helped my gums but the right sided throat n tonsil pain was still there. Again one night I felt the pain was really bad so ended up at emergency room to again I was given antibiotic for a throat infection.. again it helped for a day or two but the right sided pain in the throat and tonsil with swelling under jaw came back.. I had bloods done which apparantly showed my thyroid levels a little high so I had an ultrasound on my thyroid which showed inflamed thyroid plus Iv seen the ENT who sent me for a Ct scan on my neck and all that showed was that my lymph node on the right side is inflamed.. im still feeling this right sided tonsil and throat pain with swelling under my right jaw and I get really bad neck pain on the right side too which feels muscular. Iv also looked down my throats and see some white stuff inside the skin of my tonsil if that makes sense?! What is that?!! This is on the left side aswell! Im also getting right sided shoulder pain too, I have no idea if this related or just from stress or what! Iv had a scope done through my nose to see my throats and they've said everything looks fine. I don't get it. I don't know if it's related to the inflamed thyroid? Or if it's a case of tonsillitis or what. I have an  appointment with the ENT in 2 weeks and also the endocriniologist.

Do you think the white stuff is maybe a tonsil stone? Or thrush? Are you getting a shock type of pain? Because I've been told I have glossopharyngeal neuralgia and I wonder if yours could be to. Also look into Eagle's Syndrome maybe? A few years ago I was getting a lot of pain on the right side of my throat as well. I felt like something was stuck behind my right tonsil and I ended up having a deep tonsillar abscess. The Dr couldn't see it at check ups and kept telling me everything was ok. We ended up deciding to do a second tonsillectomy because my tonsils grew back after my first one and that's when he spotted the abscess. But now my lingual tonsils bother me.

Iv also got a horrible pain just under my ear on that same side.. as I'm typing now it's just horrible.. along with the tonsil pain.. the pain is quite sharp sometimes I would say especially my tonsil and under my ear n neck it's just a deep horrible ache.. and how did they diagnose u with the glossopharyngarl neuralgia? I don't know know what to say or do.. I really want them to take a biopsy from the tonsil or something!

My dr said he thinks I have it based on my symptoms and he referred me to a neurologist. I would go see your ENT again and ask if that could possibly be it and ask about Eagles syndrome as well. Then maybe go see a neurologist. I'm not sure if yours is from your tonsil or nerves, so I would definitely talk to your Dr about how horrible the pain is. I feel you..I have pain below my right ear as well. It comes and goes with my throat pain.

      Hi, how are you doing?

I have the same symptoms for over a year. I'm at a loss. I have seen 3 ENTs, Oral surgeon and a dentist couple of times. Had an MRI of head and ultrasound of neck. Just swollen lymph nodes on both sides, right side is larger than the left one. I have also the jaw pain and sometimes it feels like tingling. I also can see yellow streaks in lymphatic tissues on the back of my throat. It feels like I'm overrun by a strange virus or bacteria. Doctors just shrug their shoulders

      Hi,

I guess I got the cause for my problem.

Doctor confirmed that I have Eagle syndrome for which surgery is the only option but he suggested to get it done if the pain is unbearable you can also check with your doctor if you have Eagle syndrome or elongated styloid process please let me know your findings thanks

      Hi Sandesh,

Thanks for replying. I'll ask my doctor when I see her again. My throat is swollen and very read, enlarged lingual tonsils(due to left tissue from tonsillectomy). I get burning pain on the right side mainly, and my gums hurt from time to time too. My gums have started receding too. I have an impacted too which my dentist and the oral surgeon say is fine.  Like all the symptoms coincide with scary diseases but doctors don't care at all. And yeah my blood markers showed I might have Sjogren's but the hematologist didn't rush to give a diagnosis. All of these symptoms started last year in April when I got a cold sore on my lip and a lump on the chin. After that everything went wrong. Anyways, I'll let you know if I find out anything.
