Sore throat right side and enlarged right lingual tonsil for a year

im really out of my mind and stressed about my situation.

im 32 yr old male, smoking for 14 years but light smoker for the past 9 years (5 cig a day)

anyway its all started a year ago with numb throat pain on my right side. i thought its something viral that will go away and after arround 2-3 months it did ease abit but never went away, 3 months ago the pain started to intensify only this time i started to feel pain in right side of the tongue along with the right sore throat but i couldnt see anything suspicious, a month ago i have pulled my tongue out and saw a lump, deep on the right side, i went to my gp wich was very concerd about it and send me to a mouth specialist, while waiting for my appointment to the specialist i went to th ent wich saw it and gave my antibiotic and cream for the lump and sended me to urgent us scan of thyroid..

couple days later i went to the mouth specialist wich said its not likely to be cancerous and identified the lump as an enlarged "lingual tonsil" but with not special pathology. she told me that she though that i have acid reflux as she saw traces in my throat and also told me to not take the antibiotics that the ent gave me as it wownt help for the lump. she also thought she feel some enlarged lymph node in my neck so  she sended me to do a us neck scan and continue the check with endoscopy from ent and also a gastro specialist to make endoscopy to see if there gerd problem and prescribed nexium. meanwhile 2 weeks passed and the nexium has no effect , the pain is still there in my right side throat and also back in my right side tongue. i had a neck ultrasound a week ago  wich said no evidence of enlarged lymph nodes wich is so weird as i fill like my neck is swallen, tight. i should have an ent appointment this week but im suffering so much i have no idea what to do next.  i feel alone in this as i have found anyone on the internet with same problem as mine, i searched many places but couldnt find a similar person with same symptoms and im out of my mind for what this could be. im very concernd about cancer as this started a year ago. also im almost sure that my throat pain is related to the tongue pain from the enlarged lingual tonsil.

please if anyone can advise or help me or have any similar symptoms please reply my thread and share, im desperate this ruining my life and i dont know what to do anymore or whats going on.

    Hi jordan53604,

I have the exact same symptoms you are taking about. I'very been to 5 diferents ent no one seems to know what's going on. They have donever on me, CT scans 2 MRI, camera down my throat many times, gastronterologist etc. Nobody has a clue, they said acid reflux, glossopharingueal nerve pain wich I don't think it's. I been like that for a perioday of 1 year and 4 months by now, the pain is everyday, every hour every second, drives me inside. Please let me know if you have any other helpful information. I'm trying to get an appointment with the endocrinologist and alternative medicin. Hope you found answers by now

    Hi All,

I have the same symptoms from last one year now. Now I feel that it is all due to acid reflux. I took a treatment. For acid reflux for 10 days and had a considerable improvement.

One pentop-D before breakfast and dinner (30 min before) and three time reflex forte/gaviscon 20ml after breakfast lunch and dinner.

Stopped all acidity causing foods like tea, coffee, lime, citrus foods, milk, fixed lunch and dinner timings, started using looks clothing, exceraise.

So I request you all to do follow the treatment for acid reflux for at least 15 days along with the strict diet and share your experience.

I feel I my pain is vanishing imidiately after taking antacid then it is nothing but acid reflux.

    Please do share your experience.

    Hi Jordan

My 2ndneck ultrasound yielded nothing. She said length of lymph node means nothing, it's the width she looks at and as none of mine are over 0.5cm they are of no concern.

Weirdly my throat pain nearly went away for the 2 weeks I was having my route canal treatment. However the relief was short lived as this we its come back, although not as bad as I had before.

I don't see the ent again until mid April. I really don't know what further tests I can push for. Am I just supposed to live with this?

Exactly the same frustating feeling. All tests came normal. The GP and doctors dont really care unless they see a bad big serious exam result.

I also started to feel eat pressure with my neck/throat pain.

I also have no idea of what else to do. I think at some point the doctors get annoyed and think we overreact or think that we are crazy or hypochondriac.

Really frustation. I am trying to test different habits changes to see if makes any influence.

I know - I thought docs were supposed to pursue / monitor symptoms until they go away not just wash their hands of the patient as soon as all their tests are done and their boxes ticked! I am in the UK but have private healthcare. However after 9 months this issue will become a 'pre existing condition' meaning I will not be entitled to any more tests so I want to push for a 2nd round before then at least.

This thread has been a comfort to know I am not the only one experiencing this frustration!

I am also in the UK.

I thought about changing to private health. What do you mean after 9 month. Do you already have the private health plan and if they don't find your problem in 9 months you can't investigate further? Or you meant that having a health issue for 9 month won't be covered if you join a private health care system?

Yes I mean I am already enrolled in private healthcare and they have a 9 month limit for investigations. However I would also think if you sign up new they would not re-investigate a pre existing condition, so would suggest you don't mention it.

Hi, I have had the same problem for almost a year.  I have gone to a GP, dentist, Oral surgeon, ENT.  My ENT said that it could either be from a post-nasal drip or a side effect from a canker sore under my tongue that affect a major nerve.  I have good days and bad days. He also said that lingual tonsils get irriated if you get dehydrated or take medication that makes you dehrydrated.  I also tried Zyrtec incase it was allergies.  I am thinking of calling the Oral Surgeon and asking what side effect stem from lingual tonsils b/c this is like a tingle on my right side.  I am getting so annoyed.  My GP didn't know what i was talking about but ENT immediately attributed it to side effects of a canker sore.  Please let me know if you have had any luck.

Every time I go to the doctor it clears up. Had a CT scan but cleared up the day of the scan, and found nothing on scan. Know it my lingual tonsils but doctor not finding anything wrong. Started looking on line for help found a home remedy. That seems to work.

Take 1/3 of a cup of Jaggery

1/2 of a cup of Honey

    2 tbsp of Turmeric powder

And 1/3 of a cup of water

Mix in a jar and microwave for 1 minute than stir and let cool.

Drink a little slowly and gargle with it for 30 seconds. Do 4 or 5 times daily.

Works like a charm and taste pretty good also.

Can also be used as a hot totty not bad at all.
