Sore throat right side and enlarged right lingual tonsil for a year

im really out of my mind and stressed about my situation.
im 32 yr old male, smoking for 14 years but light smoker for the past 9 years (5 cig a day)
anyway its all started a year ago with numb throat pain on my right side. i thought its something viral that will go away and after arround 2-3 months it did ease abit but never went away, 3 months ago the pain started to intensify only this time i started to feel pain in right side of the tongue along with the right sore throat but i couldnt see anything suspicious, a month ago i have pulled my tongue out and saw a lump, deep on the right side, i went to my gp wich was very concerd about it and send me to a mouth specialist, while waiting for my appointment to the specialist i went to th ent wich saw it and gave my antibiotic and cream for the lump and sended me to urgent us scan of thyroid..
couple days later i went to the mouth specialist wich said its not likely to be cancerous and identified the lump as an enlarged "lingual tonsil" but with not special pathology. she told me that she though that i have acid reflux as she saw traces in my throat and also told me to not take the antibiotics that the ent gave me as it wownt help for the lump. she also thought she feel some enlarged lymph node in my neck so she sended me to do a us neck scan and continue the check with endoscopy from ent and also a gastro specialist to make endoscopy to see if there gerd problem and prescribed nexium. meanwhile 2 weeks passed and the nexium has no effect , the pain is still there in my right side throat and also back in my right side tongue. i had a neck ultrasound a week ago wich said no evidence of enlarged lymph nodes wich is so weird as i fill like my neck is swallen, tight. i should have an ent appointment this week but im suffering so much i have no idea what to do next. i feel alone in this as i have found anyone on the internet with same problem as mine, i searched many places but couldnt find a similar person with same symptoms and im out of my mind for what this could be. im very concernd about cancer as this started a year ago. also im almost sure that my throat pain is related to the tongue pain from the enlarged lingual tonsil.
please if anyone can advise or help me or have any similar symptoms please reply my thread and share, im desperate this ruining my life and i dont know what to do anymore or whats going on.

Sorry to read about your problems. Where are you now in terms of diagnosis ? I have experienced the exact same problem - right lingual tonsil enlarged. I have had a number of endoscopies and turns out I have reflux - silent reflux, or LPS.
Best wishes

The doctors told me that at first, tried acid reduction meds and they didn't work at all.

Hello, I had the same symptoms as most of you.II'm now on antibiotics and that seems to help with swelling and the yellow substance that was inside my lingual tonsils are gone. But what my dr noticed is a little red-gray patch on my right lingual tonsil where it hurts.I'm so scared. He said it could be from infection I have now but I am sure I had it for a year now.

I had swollen sublingual tonsils on the right side, plus a constantly swollen lymph node on the same side for ten years. I have eagle's (elongated styloids), especially on the right side and I always thought it was the reason. I was living in constant fear that I have cancer or something bad in my mouth, my voice was very weak and I had to clear my throat... many foods and of course a glass of wine made the situation much worse. Basically I was living in panic nearly ten years, the right side of my mouth made my life totally miserable. When I touched my jaw, the lymph nodes under it were swollen too on the right side.
Four months ago I developed an acute sinusitis (i have been operated in sinuses for three times, it always came back). As i avoid gluten since the last operation and I could breath normally I thought naively that my sinuses were fine. It came out they were again clogged, especially my right maxillary sinus that was completely full of gunk. I took antibiotics and steroids that didnt resolve my sinus issue (still struggling with it with natural remedies), BUT obviously they reduced the inflammation, because the lymph node, the lingual tonsillitis... it all solved! It came out that the discomfort on the right side was not caused by the elongated styloid or some other mysterious issue, but the reason was my chronically clogged sinus that spread the inflammation everywhere, hence the swollen lymph node and sublingual tonsils on that side. My maxillary sinus on the left side is clear and I never experienced any discomfort there, although the styloid is elongated on that side too.
Everyone please check your sinuses!

Hi Jan,
I find your thread very interesting. I've been suffering with, what I've been told by 2 different ENTs, is a swollen taste bud, at the very back right hand side of my tongue. it came about 4 months ago, after going to my GP to get to the bottom of a swelling sensation at the back of my nose/throat, my doc recommended a nasal cleanse, believing it was something to do with my sinuses (which in my 39 yrs I never suffered from) he gave me a prescription for an antibiotic, but told me to hold off using it unless I really needed it. 2 weeks later, I got an unusually sore throat ( it was weird cause it was worse first thing in the morning and felt like bad acid reflux) I decided to take the antibiotic, while my throat improved, the very next day after i finished the course of antibiotics, this so called swollen taste bud appeared. i had a constant feeling of something stuck in the back of my throat (this is what makes me think the antibiotic had something to do with it). cut to 4 months later, 2 different ENT appointments, and awaiting an appointment for an MRI, im absolutley no better, in fact, lately it's worse, and my inflamed taste bud has become very sore, swallowing is becoming a problem, and this morning I felt like my voice was affected. if my sinuses could be the problem (and like u, my nose is clear) how would I go about having it checked, or diagnosed? I look forward to hearing from u soon x

HI Caroline, Im sorry you are going through this, its a very annoying condition. I can only tell you my experience. I have a swollen lymph node on the right side and adjacent lingual tonsils are constantly swollen too. As a result I feel a lump in my throat and have voice problems all the time. Recently I learnt that all my sinuses are again inflamed. I also had head pressure and dizziness from sinusitis, constant bad taste and nasal drip for the past year. I had 2 root canal treatments and one tooth with inflamed roots was extracted. I got some temporary relief, but the infection returned... in spite of all treatments.
I saw that no antibiotics/topical treatments/tooth treatments dont get me rid of this problem, that it is something broader, systemic.
As I had menstrual problems too and my thyroid is sluggish (although all tests are in range) I suspected that i have subclinical hypothyroidism/hashimoto. I read that it can cause sinusitis - it causes sinus mucosa to swell and thus sinuses dont drain properly and bacteria gets trapped inside.
To boost my thyroid I started to take in October 1-2 drops of Lugol 1% iodine solution plus 2 macadamia nuts per day for selenium (must be taken at the same time). My nose started to clear up and my head pressure to subside... I couldnt believe it!. So I upped Lugol iodine drops to 5-6 per day and my head pressure disappeared and my lymph node in the throat is less swollen and my lingual tonsils less painful.
My conclusion: iodine deficiency caused my hypothyroidism; hypothyroidism caused sinusitis (fuelled by bad teeth roots, but the main cause was still thyroid); sinusitis caused constant infection in sinuses that caused the swollen lymph node/lingual tonsils.
If it sounds familiar maybe you could try to get a MRI or CT SCAN to check the condition of your sinuses and if you have sinusitis I recommend Lugol iodine (JCrow is a brand on amazon). Keep me posted.

It seems like throughout the day it will feel raw and inflamed then calm down. I can feel a lump of tissue behind the left circumvallate papillae and I went to an ent and he said it was a papule or lingual tonsil. It's been like this for 2 months.

I have been to 6 ENTs, and even the Head of Oral Cancer clinic in UCLA. Had high tech swallowing tests, and video exams inside my throat. All say GERD plus post nasal drip.
I was told my linguals are big, but not huge, and they might be irritated chronically.
I also have mild popping in both ears, like Eustachian tube issue.
Basically this hurts all day long, a bit less in the morning, then gets worse. It has been 5 months.
