Spasms

Anyone had them or getting them?  I get up to three a night, very intense and obviously wake me up.  Just wondering how many weeks do they last, didn't have them in hospital.

Also got groin pain, think it may of come from the hip abduction exercise, the one where you take your leg out to the side.  Have had pain everytime I have tried that one. I have not done it today. Will that pain eventually go too.

I had some. I think it was week two after the op. They woke me up or prevented me from sleeping... Went away after a week or so.

Spasms, that is. Can't advise on the groin pain as I've had it before and after the op...

    Hi Lynn,

I had small spasms during the night for the first 3 weeks - was a bit of a weird feeling and they did keep me awake. Thankfully none for the past week!!

I've also had some groin pain - started when I did 15mins on static bike on Monday. I totally cut back on exercises and it has settled down a lot but still have a wee niggle. If I were you I'd stop any exercises that are causing pain and let everything settle down. Then start slowly and take it easy - just listen to your body, it's the best judge of what you should do!

    Good luck x

Not very nice, pleased when they finish.

The groin pain reminds me of the arthritis pain. thanks Karen, I've cut that one out for now, taking my full medication again for the moment  and have not gone for a walk.  It feels a bit easier at the moment. Guess it's best not rush.  The physio will be phoning next week, so I can have a chat then, but that's a while.

      Hi.

I had the groin pain within a few days of op. Physio said it was tight psoas (probably caused by how you were "holding" before the op. ). She recommended stopping the exercises for a week, and then pick them up again very gradually. A week later she gave me a gentle psoas stretch and re introduced 1 exercise. She kept stressing how it needed to be gradual.

Can you phone your physio before next week? It may put your mind at rest.

Re muscle spasms. Yes I get them when I wake up in the morning. Am at 3 weeks and 1 day, they are getting slightly less.

Ahh, could well be, I didn't have very much mobility before the op, Made it difficult when I needed internal. I haven't got a clue who my physio is, I'll just wait, soon come round I guess.

Hope that is what happens to me,

The positive thing about the spasms, it wakes me to go to the toilet lol.

Do you ever struggle to get up from lying on your back, I sometimes do, when I go for an afternoon lie down, I can get up easier but I suppose that's because I'm not lying as long.

Getting up continues to be difficult for me - even from sitting, at 8 weeks post-revision.  I need to 'wake up' the thigh muscles with a good stamp on the floor first.  Not sure who suggested it on here, but someone did, and it seems to work for me, but then my femoral stem was firmly embedded in my femur 18 weeks ago now.

Spasms do not last for too long, thank goodness, but were quite uncomfortable and unexpected.

When I first wake, I feel paralysed, so try to wiggle my feet, but  could do with the pulley like they have in hospital lol

Youv'e had a lot to go through, not just the one, so can't be easy.  I'm finding it easier standing from my bed but that is quite high.

How quickly we forget ... that wonderful overhead handle to help you get yourself out of bed - that would be good at 4am in the morning when I get up to go to London.

The magic tap on the floor suggestion was me! I learned that I needed to tell me leg what to do last year. I am applying it this time.

This is such a good site, when people need help there are people who have already gone through it and everyone is so friendly and helpfull.  It's put my mind at rest.
