Spasms

Anyone had them or getting them?  I get up to three a night, very intense and obviously wake me up.  Just wondering how many weeks do they last, didn't have them in hospital.

Also got groin pain, think it may of come from the hip abduction exercise, the one where you take your leg out to the side.  Have had pain everytime I have tried that one. I have not done it today. Will that pain eventually go too.

I had them in hospital, and at home - uncommanded spasms. They went away after a couple of weeks.

I know this is silly, but when the nurse came to take out my staples I asked her if the spasms would pull it apart, without them being in. My mind does wander. lol Never thought to ask how long they would last.

Hi, Lynn - By 'spasms,' do you mean nervous, crawly legs?  If so, I found that was caused by narcotic withdrawal.  I had to cut back slowly with longer spaces between each dose.  Even so, after I was completely off the meds, I still had those legs for a few days.  But it passes.

      I had both ............... frown ...............

the crawly legs, itching and craving more Tramadol was caused I believe by the Tramadol and Morphine narcotic drugs.

I also had uncommanded muscle contractions (spasms) in my abdomen and legs.  Quite uncomfortable, especially when trying to get a bit of sleep in between those hourly trips to the toilet.

It does all pass, when you stop taking the drugs, and when your muscles finally settle down, but can take a couple of weeks.  Like everything else in this recovery, we all experience it for different lengths of time.

No, like cramps, the whole thigh tightens up, quite painful.  I had only just started cutting down on meds but back on full at the moment, but I know to do it gradual.

So you needed to go to the toilet a lot, I usually have to get up once during the night but since the op being going more.

No crawly legs yet but itchy where my spinal blocks were.

Oh at the start, it was every hour through the night - thank goodness for the 'pee bottle'.  then when I was mobile, i had to get up in the night ... it tapered off gradually, took about 4-6 weeks though.

At the start I thought I might be having prostate problems, until I found on here it was common.

Yeah, e45 cream comes in handy, mine goes above waist too.

Had a good night last night though, only went once and got one spasm later on.

Hi again. When did you have your op?

It sounds as though it's quite early days?

    Hi Lynn,

For my spasms my doctor gave me a mild muscle relaxer. I took it only at night and it helped me so much.  It is well for you to lay back on the abduction excercise and rest your hip.  Pain is not your friend.  Are you doing this exercise while standing up or laying down?

I have it to do lying down and standing up, but leaving that one out at the moment.

I phoned my docs, but the nurse said it was the back that usually has the spasms, don't think they understood really, so now I know they won't last too long I'll just go with it.
