Spasms

Anyone had them or getting them?  I get up to three a night, very intense and obviously wake me up.  Just wondering how many weeks do they last, didn't have them in hospital.

Also got groin pain, think it may of come from the hip abduction exercise, the one where you take your leg out to the side.  Have had pain everytime I have tried that one. I have not done it today. Will that pain eventually go too.

    dear lynn,

someone here suggested to drink tonic - I had cramps/spasms too and it really helped -

yeah, groin pain I also still have after many months post-op - I think that my whole body has been so out of whack for such a long time that those muscles are still tight -

just do those exercises very slow and gentle - if you are doing them on the bed, just start out with lifting it a little bit - I could not do that for a long time -

Doing the leg exercises while standing at kitchen counter is easier ...

and remember : there is no gain in pain after THR surgery

    big warm hug

I have heard about tonic water being good for cramps, the quininne in it, but I'd forgotten about that.  Long time since I tried it, didn't like it but might be worth trying again, thank you renee.

I'll wait for the groin pain to go before I try the abduction one again.

Oh Lynn, me too - At a very tender age I drank too much gin-tonic and was sick for 3 days - just take sips during the day ...

      Lol, oh dear.

Suppose taking sips would be like taking awful medicine, not so bad in small doses.

Had no spasm last night, bliss.  I have ordered a medical  ladder, so I can pull myself up, into sitting from lying down, because I really struggle with that.

Hi Lynn i had terrible muscle spasms they started in hospital the day after my op they gave me a magnesium tablet every day one of the nurses suggested Schweppes Bitter Lemon or Tonic Water they both have quinine in them and they used to use it to treat restless leg syndrome apparently.I would drink a bottle of the bitter lemon every day and it did help.I'm 5 weeks this week and they have finally gone away worth a try probably better with gin in it though Lisa

Thanks lisa, hubby forgot to get some yesterday, think I'll pop over corner shop see if they have some.

Worse still with gin lol, I don't drink alcohol.

5 weeks, how are you doing, do you find all the pains have gone now?
