Hi All
i would like to know if anyone has speech problems.
For about 1 year I have been forgetting words while in a conversation but now I have a stutter when I talk to anyone even family, and my mind goes blank and I forget what the conversation was about. I am so embariest. I am going to the docs yet again, last time I was told it is anxiety but if it is I should not get when I'm with my husband or family. I am now 55 don't leave the house on my own, I sleep 16 hours a day and now I can not speak right.
sorry about going on but I need to sometimes.
once you learn to cope with this illness it throws something new at us. I hope that all people with ME/CFS are well as can be.
cheers

Yes, one of the terrible things about this illness is you never know what new symptom will pop up. It's very scary. I haven't had your exact problem, but I do sometimes forget words, and I often will think I'm writing one thing and then reread it, to find I've written something completely different. I also get letters switched around when I'm writing, in addition to words. Before I got ME/CFS, I was a writer/technical editor. I could never do that now. One thing: I'd be very wary of a doctor who's trying to fob off symptoms on anxiety. I mean, if you're feeling anxiety and telling a doctor's it's a problem, that's one thing. But that doesn't seem to be the case with what you describe. Anxiety and depression are often the go-to's for doctors who don't understand this illness and its many possible symptoms.

The speech problem most common with sufferers of ME/CFS is Anomic Aphasia, whereby we forget words and obviously sufferers have degrees of that and it sounds like you are having a version of the problem quite badly.
I tend to have it most of the time but it's far worse when I've been doing to much, or the ME/CFS is at it's worst. Yet another symptom that gets added to the long list unfortunately and to be honest I try not to worry about it. I've told those who need to know what happens when I'm like that and they just have to accept it.
It is frustrating I know but it's a question of trying to alleviate all your symptoms by trying to find a way of living that suits you, in terms of hours resting etc.. Don't feel guilty about feeling ill! It's your doctor's job to help you and if you feel your doctor isn't being helpful, find a new one that understands the condition, the support of a good doctor makes alot of difference I've found...

I get this too and am sure it is symptom of M.E. as I was not like this when healthy. I can start off a conversation fine if not too tired but after about 30 mins feel like my brain and thinking have slowed down and can't think of words or take in what other person is saying. I have friend with M.E. who loses her voice all together when tired. Make mistakes when typing too and can't follow long TV programmes or films. I find that listening to relaxation CDs helps as you are resting your brain as well as your body when doing one and always find I can think more clearly after doing one. You are not alone!!

Hii Lynne, had quiet day yesterday resting - fed up in house on my own. Better day today - managed to meet friend for lunch but feel shattered now. Just watched dog programme on TV and really made me want another dog but too soon to get one. Bit worried about how I'll get on going away but am just going to rest the next few days and will try packing in stages over a few days. At least I'll have no housework or cooking when away. Think I'll take my MP3 player so can listen to relaxation tracks if I feel exhausted. Could even listen to one in the car if I'm struggling. Hope you're having a better day.

. l woke this morning early felt really down, l think sometimes if youve had bad dreams you wake worse, plus l,d to go to hospital today to see rheumy, l pushed gp for appt, then didnt want to go at all, rainy out, tired, didnt want the journey and rest that goes with it, but nees must, she was quite officous, no empathy or as much as a smile, but okish, chatted, talked about physio, she mentioned vit d, sent me off for blood test and xray, waiting, must have took 3hrs in all, but over and done with, results later. l missed the dog prog, the rescue one l guess, l got my last rescue dog from rspca, you can look online at rspca nearby braches, and dogs trust, a huge one in our area, shows you pics and a bit of into about age temprament, l darent look, so many lovely dogs needing homes, l,d be so tempted, if healthy l,d def get another, if rich with a big place and grounds half a doz, but being realistic one is more than enough for me. But last time l lookedd on rspca site, it was 90percent staffie x, used to be all types, but l guess that is the breed of dog most handed in or taken in now, taken over as chosen breed by some types who neglect abuse. l cant recall ever seeing a retriever in either rspca or dogs trust, certain breeds you dont. Maybe after the summer is over before winter starts might be a good time, l dont know abuot you but l always felt a bit more secure with a dog, and theyve not been guard dogs that would worry anyone, but did bark at least. l guess you go off on Saturday, might be time for the weather to take up, but change of scenery r and r. sure youll enjoy once you get there. Hope your journey isnt too long, tape and reading will pass the time on journey. Take care lynne

Hi Lynne, I always find hospital appointments really tiring. All the waiting, trying to keep enough energy to hold a conversation with medical staff, getting tests done, etc. Always feel totally drained after appointments. Ended up with loads of these for my back at one point, MRI scans, seeing different consultants in different hospitals and after all that was told there was nothing they could do and would just have to live with it! I try and avoid doctors and hospitals now if I can as I never seem to get anywhere. Probably get on better trying to find things out for myself. Feeling quite down and exhausted again today. Made myself go for short walk and saw man who lives nearby with his retriever. I walked with him a bit and took his dog on lead. It felt so much better walking with a lead in hand - just makes me want another one but still grieving Brodie. The house is really quiet without him and like you I felt safer with a dog in the house. Keep noticing strange noises and feeling stressed. Am going away next week but even more worried about going now as I feel exhausted. Should'nt have gone out so long yesterday but was fed up in house. Hope the weather is better near you today. Cloudy, windy and showery here. Make sure you try and rest to recover from your hospital ordeal and hopefully you'll pick up again. Elaine.

Just a quick reply as trying to save my energy. Sounds like you've had a bad week so really hope things pick up for you next week. Such a frustrating illness as so many things you want to do but can't. Been there so many times. Have really not felt right since I lost Brodie as feel I can't relax even when I'm trying to rest as it's like something is missing. Have done a silly thing on impulse. Noticed there 5 week old retriever puppies for sale very near where we're going next week so phoned and arranged to have a look at them if there are any left. Probably really stupid thing to do as probably too soon and not sure where we'd get the money from but not obliged to buy them only looking. Will keep you posted. Get plenty rest and look after yourself. Take care. Elaine

Hi Lynne, back from hols today and absolutely shattered but enjoyed it when away. Went to see retriever puppies and think you will guess what I'm going to say - have reserved one and will get her in a couple of weeks! Can't really afford it but my parents are going to lend us some of the money so will be cheap and cheerful meals just now. Need to rest as much as possible to build up energy for getting her as I know a puppy will be exhausting but it will get easier in time and be worth it in the end. Hope you've had a better week. Off to bed now - feel like I could sleep for a month!! Elaine

I am like that too, always losing words, forgetting what I was doing, saying, going to do. I also lose my voice when really fatigued and that is a sure sign I have overdone things. I just try to describe the thing I am talking about like saying the black thing for water for tea when I forget kettle. My grown kids think it is hilarious and to be honest, that is the best way to look at it. We can't change things so we have to find ways to accept and live with them.
