Spontaneous purpura on methylprednisolone 1.5 mg
Posted , 12 users are following.
i am experiencing spontaneous bleeding under skin on forearms and am on 1.5 mg methylprednisolone. Can anyone tell me if it is a side effect of methylprednisolone and would I do better on prednisone?
Also, am an ultra rapid metabolizer of the gene CYP 1A2. Would prednisone or methylprednisolone be better for me.
one last question: have lost about 40 percent of my scalp hair. Which one would cause less side effects. I’ve been on these steroids for 46 months.
thanks.
all info would be helpful

So far K2 is not treated as being necessary. Unfortunately it really is and most Westerners at any rate will need to supplement it. It is not the same as K1 which we get from our leafy greens. It's function in bone health is to direct calcium into the bones. Vitamin D alone cannot do this. By taking K2 we not only enhance our bone health but also reduce the risks associated with calcium supplements, where the calcium is deposited onto the walls of blood vessels or into organs where it can cause damage. It's also important to make sure you are getting enough magnesium in the diet.
It is wise if you are on blood thinners to check with your doctor or pharmacist. There are new generation blood thinners which are not affected by any form of Vitamin K. However I think K2 is less of an issue even with the warfarin types, and a low dose of K2 should be fine even in those cases.

I have lost a ton of hair on Prednisone along with small areas of bleeding under the skin on my forearms too. I don't know anything about the other drug you mentioned.
