Hailed it is so sad to hear of incidences such as this. I'm glad you complained and I'm certain the nurse involved will be dealt with and you hopefully will make her think of how she treats people in the future. I also witnessed some unfortunate incidences while in hospital which made me really sad. I felt able to speak up for myself and even gave advice to others. As a midwife i hate it when I read comments about the attitude of other midwives, like the majority of health care professionals we do the job to make a difference and whatever kind of day your having there is never an excuse to treat anyone in this way, especially when you are at your most vulnerable!

      Hi Vicki

I would sooner post about it on here so folk know it goes on than to pretend it does not.

I I am going to ask if I can have a different nurse practitioner  for when I come back. If not I am going to ask f an independent witness can be brought up to the ward from the paitents complaint office every time she has to come and see me. I am not going to let her get away with it.

Absolutely!  Aggression toward a patient who is already vulnerable in totally unacceptable.  Thereatening behaviour - ditto.  Violating your personal space by leaning over you is also reportable.

Take this matter, as high up the chain as you can.

More to the point, the nurse has "issues" of a psychological nature, and should be under observation, and if necessary, removed.

Hailea, I have reponded to you.  It seems that that there is a culture of this intimidating and unacceptable behaviour throughout this ward, if not the entire hospital.  If the latter is the case, then it is the hospital that needs to be investigated.  The CEO, must surely already be aware of this, but what is being done?

Additionally, if there are hygiene problems, and the ward needed a "clean," my guess is that the behaviour you have just been subjected to is a "cover up" for maladministration.  The wards should be kept hygienic and clean to prevent outbreaks.

I have a feeling that possibly, discharged patients have developed symptoms, and the ward staff are "closing ranks" by being aggressive and threatening to the patients, and in your case, making meritless threats of op cancellation, because of the absence of a pair of slippers.  Ridiculous and inexcusable.

There is something not quite right here, and it needs to be looked into byan outside entity.  I am not sure which agency that would be, but I am sure someone on the site can give you that advice.

    Good luck, and m,y sympathy

      Hi Susie

there is a file in my room with all the info I need to make a complaint. I have texted it all over to other 1/2 that is why the letters from him were sent out so quick.  I have never been treated like this on any other ward in this hospital. All their ops I have had the nurses were fantastic couldn't fault them. Then I came to this one. It is like the staff work n a morgue. It is depressing. sad

I have written a letter to the ward  manager tonight it will b given to her in the morning. I have requested that this nurse is no longer allowed to treat me or have any more to do with me. If they expect paitents not to abuse them by law. Then they should also respect the paitents right to feel safe while in hospital. I have said that I no longer feel safe being treated or otherwise by this nurse and this letter also covers for when I come back in for my hip operation. I have said a formal complaint has been made and I hope that it is understood that this nurse will be dealt with.

Well done!!! I'd ask her why she does the job?

      Hi Gaby

to be honest I am not going to say anything to her it may jeopardise my case against her.   I will leave it to the manager CEO and paitent complaints department to deal with her

I'm very glad you have lodged complaints. Threatening a patient over slippers is completely overboard. I understand hospitals require patients with open wounds to not walk around barefoot due to the risk of infection, but you haven't had your op yet.

The ward I was in provided all patients with socks with the non-slip dots on them. We were not required to have our own things. Given my own op came completely out of the blue, I arrived on the ward with nothing but still had my op the next morning.

I had my own nightmares on that ward and complained, but really, slippers? That's so crazy.

      Hi Lee

yes I know. Like I said this is the only ward out of 5 other wards I have stayed in that I have ever had any issues with the staff. All other wards were fine all the staff were friendly and happy this place would serve better being a morgue. I have to say the two young junior nurses on tonight have been a great laugh.

    Just an update.

Since the ward manager got my letter and they did hand over everyone is falling over themselves to help me or give my meds. It is a much better atmosphere. I have said to the manager they don't have t jump as soon as I buzz. I don't need that they have enough to do. All I want is a pleasent stay. Everyone deserves at least that and she agreed. So everyone is being kind and having a chat now with me. Sat here with roast beef dinner yum something I can eat that wasn't brought in. cheesygrin

Good for you!  I am so glad that they are cleaning up their act....

Have you had your op yet?

      Hi susie

no I was cancled but I can't find out the truth as to why. The nurse threatened me with going to my surgeon and getting my op cancled because I had no slippers. Someone else said it was cancled because the ward will be shut for cleaning. Someone else said the ward will be full again so no room for me. Surgeon wants me to go home for a week and then come back but I am worried it will be more than a week and I will end up with another pressure sore. So I am between a rock and a hard place and a bunch of excuses.

This is appalling.  However, as you have compained about the manner in which a nurse treated you, I would think you are in a good position to apply the pressure and make sure that one of those beds was yours!  If the ward was contaminated, hey would have had to decontaminate it, and that will create a "bottle neck."  I would kick up more of a fuss, and have your op asap.  The pressure sore is a consideration though.  However, this is the hospital's responsibility, but it may be why the surgeon wants you to go home for a week, and give it time to heal.  No matter what, this is all pretty shoddy and unacceptable.  Blame the government....!

Oh I do blame the government the Welsh government are worse when it comes to the NHS than even David Camoron ( spelt correctly at the time of posting ) and his etonites frown

      Good morning renee

      thankyou for caring.

No no the issues at this hospital never seem to stop.

My my bed broke last. YES REALLY eek

they have put me on a special air mattress bed. I was just going to sleep around 11 pm and BANG whoosh all the piping exploded off the machine.

OMG never a dull moment. It didn't take them long to find me another one. But the whole hospital here is now full there are no more beds any where. Even on maturnity ward the women are having to have there babies as soon as there check there both k there booted out. It is really crazy on my ward today again the ward is full and not enough staff to cover.

I am am supposed to have my TED stockings on. I asked yesterday for an hours break they said fine no problem. There still off now no one spare even yeaterday to come and put them back on so I can't be introuble with my surgeon if they have no staff to care for me.

      Hi gaby

i am in South Wales UK

NHS here just gets worse. I have a meeting with the top nursing manager today about the other issues. I am not going to let that nurse get away with what she did / said. I would not be allowed to behave like that towards a nurse so I am not putting up with it.

I am am having a problem with my right knee while waiting for them to sort out my right hip so the stockings are agrivating the knee and making it swell up I have an ice pack on it now and the pain is subsiding.

I am allergic to the silicone in the top of my TEDs. Caused me major grief for two weeks until I ditched them...

So sorry you are having such a rough time.  It's sods law, though, isn't it?  I think this is one for the books, and in time you will have a good chuckle over it.  I would try to have those TEDs attended to, though, as I understand that they are important.

      Hi lee

oh no I bet that was torcher. They do do TEDs with no lsilicone in them so might be an idea if ever you have to use them again to mention it.

      Hi susie

TEDS are back on they are really strapped for time to do anything at the moment I even had the nursing manager in my room asking my nurse to do a job when she had finished I said to her that person is more important than me go do that and come back so she did. I try to cut them some slack when I know they are good people. I know they are struggling and there are worse than me on this ward at the moment. One guy was swearing at them so once they went I said to him these people are trying there best for you they are not going to hurt or are not being nasty to you cut them a break after that he was ok with them. He was treated stayed over night for observation  and left this morning. But he did say sorry to them at least.
