Stew and beetroot

Posted , 5 users are following.

So I decided to have a small amount of beetroot on my sandwich yesterday lunch time. Then I decided to have some of my home made stew (again) I only had a small amount but big mistake. I started on the loo at 2 am and finished at 7 am I still have pain and feel like I need to go. So it's soup for me today. I have had stew before and it upset my stomach but nothing like this   I will never touch that or beetroot again

Sounds like your IBS, and stew your is a real no-no.  It could be just one of the stew ingredients though.  My mum made a chicken stew with just carrot, onion, peas, chicken and white sauce.  Beetroot may not be - was it pickled?  I can't eat pickled beetroot, but I can have it raw, grated on salad, like grated carrot.

At the moment, because I'm stuck indoors with this brace my problem is the opposite - bunged up!  I itch to get out and do some proper exercise, but just manage a slow hobble up and down the Close.  Doesn't help that the brace has rubbed my skin raw - it's either too tight, or too loose and slips down.  And trying to do it up with broken finger very painful!  Roll on 6 weeks time and it comes off!!

Aww I thought I was bad with my cough but you sound in a bad way. I hope you get your brace off soon. I didn't eat the meat I think it's the gravy I use 5 oxo and a real beef gravy mix. I think it's to strong. I should have learnt the last time. I was abit complacent. I got a letter from the dietitian service the other to make an appointment it said they specialise in DD. So I might go and see what they have to say x

Hi Susan, may have been the vinegar in the beetroot and was there any onion in the stew ? I find I can only tolerate it very occasdionaly and in small amounts. Going through a bad flare up myself atm and finding things that I used to be able to eat with no trouble at one time now can't be tolerated. Lentils , leeks , and a few others. Have made the decision to cut way back on dary from now on also. Hope yr back to normal soon

It's awful isn't it ,? but not worth the agony or the toilet issues to risk the foods we used to think nothing of consuming. At least we are not alone and can discuss with fellow sufferers. X

So true. I remember over a year ago when I was first diagnosed I didn't know what to do. Then I found this forum and got so much help from so many people. Falinia was a great help and source of information I don't know what I would have done without her x

Good idea - it will be interested to hear what they say, or perhaps you could teach them!!  Like you I like my food to taste, so probably over season.  I'm trying to eat foods with more subtle flavours (that's what I tell myself, rather than bland!!).  And I've been down the complacency route too.

I've ordered a knee support online and am going to try that - at present I can only bear the brace for 6 - 8 hours before the itching drives me mad.  And I have to keep seated with my leg up as well so as not to aggravate it!

I have my gastro consultant appointment on Friday so will let you know what he says.  GP said my blood came back clear   I don't know if he looked at colitis or celiac. I hope your new brace doesn't rub or hurt you. I have had 3 lots of antibiotics and one lot of steroids to try and clear this lung infection. I think I am coming out the other end now. Well iam not coughing has much or as violently xx

I always used to make my own beef stew , was fine with it for all my life until

a few years ago when it gave me terrible pain and diarheao. Every time I tried it

after that I was stuck in the bathroom for hours . I've tried leaving the ingredients out

one by one but no luck ! I really miss it but don't miss the pain !

I can't tolerate beetroot either , I've tried it with and without vinegar , still a no no .

I don't have anything now that's even got a hint of spice , greasy , dairy , tomatoes in it .

Miserable when you can't eat what you'd like !

I know   I would love a burger or Disney and chips but don't dare eat it. I don't understand why after 50 years of eating stew it now hurts me

pre packed or tinned foods contain tomato . I miss Baked beans and most tinned soup

have tomato in them . Tomatoes are very acidic .

Unless you cook stew meat in a crockpot I find beef is hard to digest.

Beef tends to stay in the bowel for quite a while which

Isn't good for DD .I don't eat any red meat , just stick to Turkey or chicken.
