About 5 days ago i started having sharp pains when i urinate. The urine had a really strong smell and i also notice blood on the tissue (bright red colour).i went to see the doctor and he told me i had UTI and prescribed Cipro.I felt much better the next day but i am still bleeding till now and although the pain isnt as sharp its still there. How long does it take for the bleeding and pain to stop.I am still taking Cipro and no other symptoms except the blood and the slight discomfort when i urinate.do i need to go back to the Doc or wait a little longer?

I always have blood in my urine with a UTI. My last really bad one, I went to the ER on a Saturday and was prescribed 5 days of Cipro (which I will NEVER take again after this first and only time).  Two days after I finished the Cipro, the blood was back in my urine with all the basic symptoms of a UTI.  Went to my regular doctor that time and still had a "significant" infection (urine sample I gave was nearly pure blood, with bright red blood on my pantiliner and tissue, plus turning the toilet water pink-ish).

My regular doctor prescribed 10 days of Macrobid and the blood didn't leave my urine until about the 7th day.

Samantha, Just writing to see if your UTI cleared up.

I'm shocked that your doctor prescibed Cipro, as it's a very stong antibiotic and ahould only be used in very serious (life or death) cases.  You'll notice that Sandra  said she'll never take it again.

Please make sure your doctor doesn't give you Cipro again - unless you're actually dying!  There's a thread on this site all about it and the problems it and it's 'sister' antibiotics (the fluoroquinolones) can cause at https://patient.info/forums/discuss/fluoroquinolone-toxicity-syndrome-427305

      Hello smile

I am writing this for my elderly mother who has had a complete hystorectomy years ago.. And now has a bad UTI with bleeding. At times the bleeding is like having a period. Fresh blood. She is also taking Cipro and has taken this antibiotic before in the past for UTI. I read online that Ciprofloxin can thin the blood. Mom is NOT on any kind of bloodthinners. So I am concerned about her bleeding. We have been to her doctor already.  "She" ordered a transvaginal ultrasound... But why?? Since my mom has had a complete hystorectomy.

Did your bleeding stop? Was it because of Ciprofloxin?  Did your UTI go completely away??

I..myself having many UTI's in my life have never bled.. I was told there was blood in my urine... But I never had fresh blood as I have read here.

So I don't know what to think or do for my mom. For her getting a pap done would be horrtibly painful.

Maybe someone reading this can help.. Thank you.
