Still here!

I have had a camera up the nose and down the throat. More recently an endoscope. The good news is they found nothing but the bad news is I still have the globus sensation. I'm really fed up, the only rest bite I get is eating, drinking or sleeping.

I don't consider myself to be overly stressed or anxious person, well no more than any working mum.

It started over 12 months ago after a bad cold and hasn't left me since. I don't suffer with reflux either, I'm a vegetarian, don't drink to excess and don't smoke.

Any suggestions gratefully received as the doctors don't seem overly bothered!

I'm so sorry you are suffering with this condition, my doctor advised me today that globus is what I most likely have. I have only been experiencing this for about a month now. My doctor suggested today that he will send along a request for an ultrasound for my Thyroid to see if that could be the cause of it. I might add that I was in a car accident about two months ago, and this has come on since then. I wonder if my case is related to having whiplash. Hope you feel better soon and can get rid of this awful torture soon!

Hi from a fellow "Globus?" sufferer. I used the ? as it seems Drs. have no idea what it is so it's impossible to say it's globus. If you could touch the spot on your neck area where it feels like something is stuck, could you say approximately where that spot is? I have a reason for asking, trying to get a bunch of replies to this question to see how many different locations there are. Good news is that it can subside and finally get so you hardly notice it. Mine started after a bad coughing spell due to Bronchitis. My feeling comes from a spot deep behind my ear lobe near the jaw hinge. Good luck.

HI PAT! and fellow sufferers! as far as THE spot, actually my "spot" changes. The sensation changes. Sometimes it feels like something is stuck in the back of my throat, sometimes it feels like a kurnel of corn is stuck on the side. There are times i feel like i have a sore throat where it actually hurts to swallow. There are many times it feels like a clog of mucus that i cant swallow. I ALSO have had all the tests and talked to many Drs. I am going on over 3 years with this. Some common denominator that I am reading here is this seems to start after being ill with something as mild as a cold for some or a really bad case of bronchitis or strep throat or other related conditions. I have learned to live and deal with it but there are times its horrible and i get desperate to find a cure. with no success. I hate when the Drs say its stress related.. I am not an overly stressed person. I DO NOT want to go on anti anxiety meds for this. I also dont understand how something that they claim is in my head and a symptom of stress can get worse from something I do, like drink cold water. why would it get worse then if its not a physical thing. THERE is no way to prove it obviously but i do think its a physical thing that cannot be detected, like a damaged nerve ending so slight. Just my opinion. But no matter what it is, we arent going to die from it and reading these stories sure does help. Thanks for listening.

It does help to hear you're not on your own and people are suffering with similar symptoms. I've found sucking a cough sweet helps but then it comes straight back!

Hi, im so sorry your dealing with this globus crap its awful. Mine started exactly 13 months ago and my life hasnt been the same since. I have had the laryngoscope, endoscopy, ultrasounds, ct scan and of course nothing. I had chest tightness and got scared ekg was normal so a week ago i had a barium swallow my results show severe reflux which is crazy since the gastrologist said i didnt. The constant sensation continues, trust me your not alone. I wish i could say something that was helpful but we can all just be supportive and share stories. The only thing that keeps my mind off it is getting lost in workouts and relaxing with neck wraps and essential oils. I just pray this globus stuff will disappear as quick as it came. Good luck.

Just knowing I'm not allow helps I have tried to explain to my other half and he just doesn't get it but I suppose its difficult to understand unless you have it

oh yes trust me i feel crazy explaining it to people but once i learned more about it and that others have it makes me feel some better. My husband doesnt understand it as well but we know what we will. Try that neck wrap and good calming oils that relieves my anxiety some and helps me relax. Night time sucks for me so i have to elevate my head. Hopefully we wake up soon and its gone!

I've seen 4 doctors over the globus feeling and sharp pain in my throat that moved from right to left and from left to right and sometime to the adam's apple. The side of my throat felt like it was scraped like a skin abrasion but would change sides. that I had for 8 months. 3 out of the four doctors said it was due to GERD . I had a Barium swallow it showed that I had mild GERD and that isn't enough to cause the globus feeling because if that was the case everyone would have it and the fourth doctor said it's a really bad infection and gave me Teva Clindamycin I also quit smoking. The Teva Clindamycin was working but didn't quite completely get rid of it I noticed a 70% improvement so the doctor gave me another round of the same Antibiotic and it cleared it up no Globus feeling and no pain when swallowing and no scrape feeling on the side of the throat. During all of this I had held a sneeze in accidently and it made a loud pop in my throat and my throat felt way worse. Ever since then my throat makes a popping and cracking sound once a day it seems. I think there's more going on with the throat muscles and cartilage in my throat. I feel sometimes what feels like a very tiny peice of pointy bone that slides from one side of the throat down to the other if I change the side I'm laying on. It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes it does. I did do some looking online and there is a bone in the throat area Hyoid Bone and I wonder if it got chipped somehow. I 'm talking to my ENT about it in a few weeks.
