Still in pain 6 months after fractured fibula

Some 2 or so months ago I posted on here as I was concerned that 11 weeks after fracturing my fibula and suffering soft tissue damage I was still in a lot of pain. I had a lot of helpful advice from other posters so thank you for that. However it is now 6 months since my accident and I still can't walk very far or do much because of the pain in my foot. When I last posted I was about to see the NHS physio which I did and was given exercies to do but I'm still in almost as much pain when on my feet as I was months ago. Can anyone explain what is causing the pain and why it is not easing off? It is under the outside ankle, on the upper outside of the foot and on the inside arch. I appreciate that as I am 66 I may not heal as quickly as a younger woman but this seems to be going on a long time and I keep wondering whether there is something else causing the pain and not just tissue damage. Has anyone else been in the same position or can give me some advice?

Hi to the others who posted, I fractured my fibula in early February this year (2018) as well as tearing my ankle ligaments. My consultant stated as it was a clean break there was no need for surgery. HOWEVER, it has been a long nightmare of a journey. I was in a cast for seven weeks and a walking boot until end of July as the fracture didn't heal till then, having to walk with a walker before moving on to crutches. Constant pain and swelling whenever I put my foot to the floor. Due to having a boot on for so long I also developed two sores, one on my foot and another on the front of the shin due to this boot. They still haven't healed. I still have swelling when walking although I find wearing a compression knee sock helps with this and gives me support. Still going to physio although this hasn't helped much except giving advice on excercises. Going up and downstairs is still causing some problems after almost eight months.Reading about others who have had this fracure, most people have had surgery, although doesn't sound as though this has been any different regarding pain, swelling or mobility problems. What you don't read anything about is the psychological effects this has on you!!!! not being able to do the most simplest of things for so long that you normally take so much for granted.

I thought that long-term pain (6 months+) was just me. I'm 70 and fell off my bike, breaking both sides of my right ankle at the malleolus. I was in a boot for 6 weeks and had a month of PT, no surgery. I still have a lot of soreness and stiffness in that ankle, as well as pain in my heel. I'm dying to go for walks with my dog and my hubby, but more than a block is too much. I also have pain when resting, standing, and in bed, just doesn't let up. I feel YOUR pain -- it's hard to endure for a long time. My ortho doc thinks it might continue to hurt up to the one year mark. UGH!

I broke my fibula June 30, 2022 and I am still suffering with bad pain and a limp. I'm starting to feel like I will always walk with a limp.
