Hello i am a 19 year old male and i have been stuggleing with an unknown illness since i was about 15/16 which has progressivly got slow worse over time. it got to the point this time last year that id had enough and went to the doctors to seek help, a year and many tests later im still no further forwards so here i am in hope of someone pointing me in the right direction

my symptoms are

Fatigue

Muscle pain

sore lower back

stiff neck

sinus problems/ phlem in throat/ blocked nose

dry throat and mouth

red nose/ rosacea

cold hands and feet

anxiety

depression

Low testosterone at 13nmol

mood swings

excess urination

clay coloured stool / diarrhea

i have had many standard tests that have all come back negetive, such a my thyroid levels, diabetes, celiacs bloods, iron and b12 levels plus more.

would be very greatful of any ideas of what this could be as i dont seen to be getting anywhere by going the to my gp. an idea ive had recently is that it could be allergies but thats just a guess?

i did go on a paleo diet for a bit which made me feel a bit better to begin with but i started to feel very ill, possibly due to detox or withdrawal after a few weeks so i gave it up.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    hi dan

    sorry to hear of this.

your paleo efforts were brave...but as you say you're prob de-toxing from whatever you're eating now plus your chemical exposure and prob dehydration from sound of it?

Are you able to drink filtered water ....in copious amounts throughout the day and even before bed at night? Thats when you detox and the extra water helps elimination.

These are just starters but i think you have pretty good instincts on the matter....and will make progress if you persist as you started and keep on here to gain support.

What else have you tried and what do you think is going on? I'm listening?

well i did the paleo thing for about 2 weeks, the first week i started to feel less tired etc but after that i started feel awful i was drinking loads of water and peeing about 20 times a day but i couldnt stick it anymore as it felt like i was stuck feel weak, tired, dizzy etc and was eating the same thing everyday which wasnt fun. im really not too sure whats going on tbh, been looking for an answer year and starting to loose my patience with it. i havnt tried loads else as i dont really know where to start.

What were you thyroid readings ...as the new normal is much lower than the old standard. New TSH ideal is 1.5 or less !
    • Posted

i cant remember exactly but i think it was about 1.3, i looked it up at the time and seemed ok.
    • Posted

ok yes that not too bad. The old normal went up to 4 but was based on sick people!!

then supplementation is the next thing to try. would you care to run your diet past me and to suggest where you think you might be low in vits or minerals? Quite often we have really good instincts about these things ourselves and just need encouragement and support to try to work it out?

Where do you think you might be lacking? What are your preferred foods. Do you have any allergies? are you aware of the family history of health...any issues that crop up going back through the family and other relatives?

ive been tested for zinc, b12 and iron, as far as i know, all were fine according to my gp, not sure of the numbers tho

i eat a fairly standard diet, i get my 5 a day, probably more as i enjoy fruit.

for breakfast id normally have a bowl of ceral

lunch id have a cheese, ham, tuna or jam sandwich with some crisps or something like that

dinner id normally have a somthing with meat in it with veg or rice.

snacks i might have some fruit, chocolate bar, yogurt or cheese

since i came off paleo ive noticed the fatigue, and lower back pain increase but obviously the suspected "detox symptoms" go away. also whenever i change my diet i seem to get this strange shaky/weak legs symptom.

also forgot to put brain fog on my list of symptoms.

Hi Dan, your dry throat and mouth would probably be caused by breathing through them rather than through your nose.  Have you tried dealing with your blocked sinuses?  That would explain your throat problems.  Try something like a Vicks inhaler and see whether that helps to clear your sinuses, or buy some menthol crystals and use one in a bowl/jug of boiling water and inhale the vapours.

If that doesn't help, perhaps a referral to an ENT Specialist might help.

Some of your other symptoms do point towards a thyroid problem.

Thanks for the response. it could be that, my nose isnt completely blocked, normally its just 1 nostril thats blocked that switches sides throughout the day, fir example if i tilt my head or sleep on 1 side the blocked nostril will change sides. also theres constant mucus dripping down the back of my throat which is more annoying.

it does seem like thyroid symptoms but how can it be if my TSH is ok.

In addtion to what Mrs M is suggesting ....which is another avenue for de-toxing and you want to get them all operational....red thermal saunas also help.

But what i think you really have is gluten intolerance. Its the roseacea which confirmed it for me...that's pretty unique to this. You might have a positive coeliac test but often this doesn't show til well down the line and you're exhibiting more serious symptoms...so i'd get onto it straight away and quit gluten....but checkout some of the support out there eg Mark's daily apple ..lots of fun !!

TRy for a week with quitting plus build up your vits and mins...then get back to us with how you're feeling. best wishes

I was gluten free for a couple of weeks when i was paleo but i didnt have any reaction when I started eating it again. if it is gluten intolorence or celiacs then wouldnt it take a few months to see an improvment?

frankly dan most people these days if their body's are working are rejecting gluten ...it is full of inflammatory pesticides, weedkillers and fertilizer. There is nothing good about wheat anymore and its best to avoid ...the problems are deferred ...no they don't show up at the time. Check out Dr Tom O'bryan on the subject.

earlier i phoned my doctors to request a print out of all my test results, turns out when i had my thyroid tested more recently (25th july) it was 2.27 mu/l is this bad? i was told it was normal, and never told the number. i must have got 1.3 the first time i was tested, a year ago.
    • Posted

aha...yes thats nearly 1 mu/l in a year ...and so its significant yes.

the reading last year is what you need to get back to. Always listen to your clinical signs and symptoms and good for Mrs M for insisting!!

The ideal is to be below 1.5 ...other measure uo to 4 are out of date.

      So heres a strategy

eat 4 brazil nuts ...at least a day....take zinc (or eat oysters...ugh)

get some iron promoting herbal concoction ...fluorvite is gluten free...don't take sole iron

wipe iodine onto your skin each day in a hidden place.

Try that before asking for thyroxin...but if you have to then you best sourcing desicated thyroid which is more natural.

But its the gluten which is getting to your thyroid....it is to everyones but yours is more perceptive of the problems out there so pay attention to your body's good and clear message.

      hope this helps!

join the low thyroid group xxxxxxxxxx

but uncontrolled gluten intake leads to coeliac disease...which you may have a touch of ...don't bother with the tests they are traumatic...just concentrate on quitting gluten and see the benefits. heres a paleo breakfast  ....organic bacon fried in organic coconut oil with organic free range eggs...fried to cook the white ...leave the yolk runny....cook very very slowly...never above no 3...avoid burnt or browned food.

Ok thanks very much for your help and advice, I'll give it a go.

If it is my thyroid though, any idea why i was still getting symptoms over a year ago when my thryoid was at a good level?

Well your body started to try to tell you it was having a prob with what you were eating back then....if you didn't do anything about it in response ...the larger molecules of gliadin protein continued to get through at the points of inflammation in your gut (intestinal permeability or leaky gut) entered your blood stream via these junctions in the presence of zonulin and the harm they did included attacking your thyroid.

mostly thyroiditis is autoimmune but most conventional doctors either don't know that themselves or don't test for it as in their view treatment is the same. Thing is then the underlying autoimmunity is not addressed the attacks continue if gluten (and sometimes dairy as well) is not taken out of the diet and the dose of thyroxin has to be increased .

the real secret here dan is that the foods we need to avoid are processed overtreated and messed about with. If you can eat organic and loads of veg...good prebiotics....plus probiotics....eg make your own kefir from non dairy sources .....coconut milk and probiotic capsules....and enjoy organic meat and try to get involved with improving welfare standards ....your life and the lives of farm animals will turn around.

How are you with veg? And green smoothies?

never had green smoothies before, could try it though.

Ok i will go and get some:

brazil nuts, zinc, iodine, coconut milk and gluten free food.

where can i get iodine, where on the body do you apply it and how much do u apply a day?

also how long do you think it will take to see improvments if i use these things daily

      good for you dan!!

how encouraging that you're receptive to this. You may be in time to prevent real damage.

on the internet for iodine now I just ran out and its no longer for sale in chemists.....eeek ...so let me know if you find a source.

give the above 6 weeks. ask to be booked for a further blood test and explain what you're doing to your GP. Try to get him on side!! He'll be curious.

look up green smoothie recipes and share on here...you have to do some work too!! can never ger enough recipes...so see what you can find xx

so pleased with you dan. don't forget the fluorovite from a health food shop. support your independent if you can...its a whole new way of life . check out the internet for support groups and so on...but i'll be here too!

apply iodine around your belly button in a hand print shaped amount to start. notice how quickly its absorbed. if gone before days end you need much more there and then...keep applying til a yellow patch is still visible the next day. then the body is satisfied and is taking what it needs...just keep topped up x
