Hell, yeah!
Stomach cramps, dizziness, head fog - they were the top three. Gave it four months before I threw the towel in. For someone with health anxiety, it was bloody awful. Stopped CT and went back to Citalopram. Stomach cramps went in first week, dizziness second week and now in week 5 and fog is just starting to go.
Never again!!

Hi Beth
ESCITALOPRAM has worked wonders for me.
I WAS on CIT 20 mg for 6 months with no relief from anxious feelings so switched . EVERYBODY WILL have a different reaction to these SSRRI's
this med works for me

Well, the last stage would be a upper GI - unless you have had that done already. It would be a case of taking a sample and running the lab. If that still shows nothing, then I would say it is the pills for sure. Not much else it can be.

yeh had upper gi and the took biopsy- all clear ! its very strange. i am weaning lf the escitalopram so i can see if it makes a difference

Best idea - if you feel these outweigh the benefits of the medication. Just be sure to go REALLY SLOW with this taper. Escitalopram is a very potent drug and since CT from 10mg, I really wish I had gone slower, despite the discomfort I was in. The psychological stage is very tough... and I should have endured the physical symptoms a little longer, but I was all too eager to know that it was the escitalopram causing the problem. Don't fall into the same trap of impatience...

Hi Beth - yes this is definitely the case with anti depressants , as I've realised over the past few years, they stop working and then its as if your body starts to reject them - I've struggled with stomach issues for years, not even thinking that it was my AD causing it - even though it had long stopped working - I was reluctant to come off it in case it made me worse! well I've been weaning down for a while and this is my 3rd day of no meds and guess what - my toilet experience was the most normal its been in a long time today. Now I'm not suggested you stop your meds - that has to be the right decision for you - but if they are not working for you anymore and your body is rejecting them, then you would probably be better off using non medical or herbal options.

Absolutely. Agree completely.

thanks for the advise guys , i will very slowly taper of as i have been on them along time

Good for you Beth.
In all seriousness, expect the taper to last months, not weeks. Look at some of the strategies other people have had success with - they all have one thing in common; they took their time.
You might also consider Omega 3 with high EPA/DHA, apple cider vinegar among other supplements to help you through.

hi i have spoken to my doctor and she suggested doing alternate days so my normal dose of 10mg on one day then the next day have 5 mg then go back up to 10mg and so on, then go down more in a fee weeks. even doing it slowly i am still having withdrawels , feeling very dizzy , sick, no energy , so i know what you mean . we just have to get through it so we can feel better x

yes you are so right, for so long i was scared to come off my ADs - they were my safely blanket! but ive had so many tests to determine what was causing my nausea, and no appetite and other issues, and ive come to the conclusion that once i noticed the ads werent working was when all these issues began, its like my body is constantly trying to detox from these drugs but i wont let it - so it is definitely soemthing we now have to do in order to let our bodies heal and recover normal functioning - but it is hard!! but im just trying to take things hour by hour right now, do what i have to do and pray for better days fo c

Whilst this is a method often used, people can still be very sensitive to it. Because the half life of the drug is around 24 hours, by changing doses every day, your blood levels will be in a state of constant fluctuation. You are far better getting a pill cutter and taking 7.5gm EVERY DAY. You may be fine, but if you find you are having difficultly getting stable, this would be the reason.

hi karen how are you feeling now ? you feelinn any benefits from stopping the meds ?

hi beth, the past week has been rough to be honest, nausea and no appetite, along with low mood, but im determined to see this through as id been feeling like that for months anyway, so im not really feeling much worse for being off the meds, and withdrawls are supposed to be hard for the first few weeks - its been about 10 days for me now, how about you ?

hiya , yea definatly dont give up, and i am slowly weaning myself off , just fed up of feeling so ill and not knowing for certain why i am

hi beth, yes definitely do it slowly, i think i went a bit too quick towards the end but i couldnt get my pills to go much smaller! ive been the same, just generally feeling ill for the past year with the odd 'break' when ive felt myself, very strange - had loads of tests done and found nothing, and its only recently ive realised it could be the ads, you get withdrawls when you're on them after they stop working, and now that i am in full withdrawl mode, i see that what ive been going through has been a muted version of this, so i just want to get my system running normally again, this week has been so rough, the nausea and anxiety are the worst, but im getting there and i really appreciate your message today because absolutely no one understands what this is like, keep in touch xxx

yes that what i said its like a toned down withdrawel effect that i have every day , but did not realise until i experienced the withdrawel. it is truley horrible having theese symptoms for so long and think your going crazy! or atleast it did haha and i definatly know the feeling of know one understands , but hopefully we are on the right track to feeling better 😃 we can do it ! x

hi beth, yes ive felt a bit better today, though it could be due to taking 2mgs of lorazepam - it really worked on the nasuea and anxiety, and i reckon im going to keep taking that until the withdrawls decrease and i have an appetite again, despite going to a food market i didnt feel like eating anything - shoudnt complain really i could do with losing a few Kgs....my mood was also better today, actaully wanted to do things so i hope its easing up a bit, the more i read about this poison the more im determined to get over it, how about you x

Really glad to hear of your progress Karen. Very happy for you.
Benzos are usually a good friend during withdrawal, but just be aware that if you take them every day, you want to max the course otherwise you will have another withdrawal on your hands!
If you are taking one a day, then you should be fine for anything up to around three months, if you are doing three a day then I would consider halving that, and then reducing to one a day... etc. You know the drill...
All the best.

ive just recently gone up to 2mg / day to help me through withdrawls, then i will very very slowy come off the lorazapam- although i have no probelm with it - at least it doesnt make me angry, or put on weight like ads do - benzos are way over rated in that respect imo...

Completely agree on your point Karen.
They are very useful in times of "crisis" and can be a real lifesaver.

do you know any one else in our situation ? i have tried reserching and cant find much about side effects that start years later . im ok just trying my best to keep positive x

hi beth, i agree its hard to find much - there is lots on tachyphanaxis or the' poop out'effect which occurs when ads stop working but not much on what they do if you continue to use them, i guess most people stop or switch which i did but the damage was done as neither of those meds worked either, i just feel my body needs a break - you have to use your own intuition, and from my perspective i just want to feel well again - eat, sleep without feeling sick! i actually slept well last night without any sleeping tablets and dont feel as sick, still no appetite but hopefully im getting through this please GOD.
