Stomach problems

6 weeks ago I became ill, after 2 weeks they said it was a sickness bug ?? So they gave me some tablets after 1 week I began to feel better, but then after a weekend of drinking coke and fried chicken for tea I began to be ill again!!! So now 4 weeks on I've had my bloods done, stool sample and even a scan and all reveals nothing!

They say it's just gastritis/ ulcer. I'm now on double lansoprozole and rinitadine (sp) and they now have given me co- dydramol, plus I'm on anti sickness meds, nothing seems to help, I'm due to go back to the doctors on Monday and I'm gonna ask for the camera down, but I'm scared if they say there's nothing there as I'll feel like this forever and I know this feeling isn't normal ??, I'd rather they find something and treat me with it, is there anything or anybody that has had similar situation and different meds that helped?????

I've been back to the doctors and she's put me down to have a camera down, she has said that I'm on all the medication I can be and that it's gastritis and will take weeks for my stomach to heal up, it's like having a cut it takes weeks she said. I did ask about the h pori thing but she again said I need to clean off my meds for 2weeks, I dnt fancy doing that, I think I'll try the camera and see if that helps. I'm just not hungry but they say I need to eat to help me get better.... It's painfull not eating and then eating

yes, true, any breath test or biopsie culture can only be done 2 weeks after PPI stop and 4 weeks after antibiotic treatment. Otherwise false results. Just keep it - the culture and antibiotic test- in mind in case h.pylori is again found to treat it successfully.

      All all the best!

Hi I will definetly keep what you said in mind. I've tried 3 treatments so far and still stool test positive. My gastro doctor is going to try a 4 treatment regimen of meds but I think I should have first what you said. For that you need a endoscopy, yes? I've already done one in January.

Yes, it needs a biopsie unfortunately. You should have had a cultrue prior 3rd treatment even, if the 2 treatments included clarithromycin and metronidazole. A 4th BLIND treatment sounds completely unjustified und unsuccessful, sorry to say.

If you need to be off antibioitics for 4 weeks prior biopsie for this culture test I am not sure, since the antibiotics didn't work anyway. (It might take some time after antibiotic treatment to get appointment for gastroscopy and biopsies anyway)

Even this patient.info site says it very clearly:

      (So please insist)

      https://patient.info/doctor/helicobacter-pylori-pro

"Patients who are not cured with two consecutive treatments, including clarithromycin and metronidazole, will have at least single and usually double resistance.

No standard third-line therapy exists, although isolated studies have reported success with a PPI, bismuth subcitrate, tetracycline and metronidazole.[21] Seek specialist advice if second-line therapy fails. European guidelines recommend culture before treatment based on the microbial antibiotic sensitivity in such circumstances.[22]"

My gastro doctor I've been seeing asked me in my last app ( 1st June) that he wanted a list of all the treatments i took prescribed by my GP. He's going to speak with pharmacy department about additional eradication therapies and Microbiology dep. maybe that's it. I'm still waiting for some feedback from him but I guess this things can take time. I'll keep in touch

At least he makes an effort. That's good.

Good luck and I hope the 'microbiology' dep knows about AST in gastric biopsies. Not every pathology can do those.
