Strange aches!

I know this has been covered in previous posts but suddenly, over the past month, my body has become much more achy.

I'm 59, and almost free from periods for a year, so, peri.

I keep fit, healthy and slim but have noticed my knees aching when I cross my legs, my body much stiffer than was, neck and shoulder pains which I can't seem to solve, aches and pains in my finger and thumb joints.

And insomnia, about which I've already posted many times!

Could all this be due to a drop in estrogen?

I do eat foods naturally high in estrogen like dried apricots and flax seeds, hoping this may help. Plus take magnesium, starflower oil and omega 3 daily.

Any more ideas ladies?

Thank you jx

Oh and I almost forgot...sciatica or trapped nerve at the top of my right leg, which hurts with almost each step but I still try to do my 10,000 a day! Joy!

Hi Gailannie, thanks for replies, but what did you do for your sciatica?

I'm trying specific stretches without much success.

Painkillers occasionally. Think it's just a matter of time till it resolves it's self?

I tried everything.  I would take ibuprophen as often as possible.  Did an MRI  which showed a small fracture, and was told to rest it as much as possible and it would heal eventually.  But again, the estrogen was the thing that resolved all the pain.

Sorry I know that's probably not what you want to hear.  But for me, it did.  As well as the fact, that we know that bone density is related to estrogen.

Oh my goodness...my jaw dropped when I read this. I have had ongoing pain on the back side of my upper right leg. I posted a discussion about it and another woman replied saging it's sciatica but I didn't know if this is common in peri or not. It's been about 3 going on 4 weeks now that I've had it. Advil seems to be a temporary fix bit other than that, I've just been dealing with it.

That has been my experience.  Chronic muscle and ligament pain when my estrogen went severely down.  Then the vaginal atrophy, painful sex, and dryness set in.  I was given vaginal Estrace, and not only did it restore moisture to the tissue, I had a systemic response.  All the aches and pains went away.  It was a little bit of heaven.

gailannie, just a question.. did you have to take progesterone separately with the Estrace, like with other HRT.  thnks biggrin

It is belived that vaginal Estrace is a small enough dose, and not systemic, that I can't say I've heard a doctor giving a prescription for the cream, and also requiring the use of progesterone.  However, I found I do even better with both.

I have also had and have this. It's gone at the moment but tried everything naturally. It's weird when I don't have the aches I have something else. It's like a replacement. I also went to doc..I just try to be gentle on myself during those times..and not push myself as our bodies are going thru a major change. I have changed alot...excercise less..take walks more..eat more protein...and fruit. I do feel it helps.

I have heard that tart cherry juice--just a cup a day--can help with joint pain.

There are some sites that say it relieves pain better than aspirin or nsaids. Sounds like you are trying to keep it natural. Might be worth a try.

I tried this also.   It's didn't help, or change anything for me.   Very expensive though, so I wish it had helped.
