Strange Cross-eyed Feeling causing Loss of Balance

For about the past 2 years I have suffered from a sudden feeling of visual imbalance or cross-eyed sensation (although not actually cross-eyed)! This in turn causes a type of vertigo involving loss of balance accompanied by nausea. This lasts for approx 10-15 minutes before my vision returns to normal. I have had 2 eye tests which confirm nothing untoward (I have replacement single vision lenses in both eyes following cataract surgery). My doctors have given up trying to diagnose this condition having carried out blood tests for Pituitry, thyroid, diabetes, anaemia and infection which are all perfectly OK. I would be interested to know if anybody has suffered similar or knows a possible cause. I have not been rfeferred to a neurologist or recommended for CT or MRI. I am female aged 65

I have been experiencing this for sometime now. This sensation lasts about a minute for me . The first time I experienced this cross eyed feeling (without actually being cross eyed) was when I was looking into a mirror around 2010. I know that I wasn't cross eyed because I was at a mirror. I associate the feeling with anxiety as i feel very anxious after it occurs due to the panic it causes me to feel.
In my own studies on myself I found it occurred undoubtedly during anxious/overwhelmed moments. For example I was experiencing this a lot when my brother passed away and when I went through a break-up with a long term girlfriend. Most recently I experienced this sensation more frequently when I was buying my first home and under a lot of stress in relations to that. I believe stressful social situations can also cause this sensation.
Now another time I have noticed this sensation was from when I consume artificial sweeteners and very interestingly from Emergen-C. When I consumed Emergen-c it happened to me three times. I since stopped using that product. I stay away from artificial sweeteners now that I have correlated the sensation with them.
Now all of this information is from my own experience as doctors and eye doctors have been no help to me just like most of you have experienced.

I know this is an old post, but wanted to see if anyone had gotten to the bottom of what it could be. I had this happen to me for the first time 4 years ago (while driving) while under stress of deciding to move across the country and its happened 2-3 times/year since then. Recently its been happening about once a month - with yesterdays episode being the longest (still only about 3 min) but i can usually get it to go back to normal by closing an eye and then opening again. yesterday i had to open and close several times and 3 min felt like eternity! Ive spent so much time, money and emotions trying to figure this out - neurologist, neuro-op, eye dr, natural dr, MRI. It so frustrating for it to just be called a migraine - i get auras and they are very different and last much longer. its strange to me that a migraine can last a few seconds. Literally the only comforting thing about this process has been this chat board - i return to it often to feel understood bc dr seem to be perplexed by the entire thing.

Seems like old age is creeping up on you and also brain development problems. Speak to your GP about it.

i started having eye problems a couple of years back where my eyes had flashing lights and tunnel vision and a migraine afterwards, this wasn't very regular just occasional but for the past year i have been having flashing lights in my eyes, feeling dizzy and faint and it seems to happen all the time now, every other day, and for the past 5 months i have been having the feeling as though my eyes have gone cross-eyed but they actually haven't, i feel dizzy and faint but i cant seem to sit down as its that distressing from loosing my vision and after these episodes my vision remains blurry and doesn't seem to go back to normal, i have now started having flashing lights and the feeling of cross-eye straight after each other, i am 26 and i am struggling with knowing what is causing this, has anyone got any answers yet please?

I have the exact same symptoms, but it only happens a couple times a month. I passed out last week and I think I gave myself a concussion. Trying to tell people or doctors is a pain because I'm sure it sounds crazy. I'm wondering if it's my sinuses and ears as well. I've been going through it for years now.

I am 54 years old and in pretty good health. I was about 35 pounds overweight, but started a keto diet and cut out almost all alcohol about 3 weeks ago. I've lost 15 pounds so far and feel great.
Driving home from work tonight it suddenly felt like something got into my right eye (nothing had gotten into my eye) ... I had to keep my right eye closed in order to see clearly, but my condition rapidly deteriorated to the point that I had to pull my car into a random parking lot and call an Uber to get home ... If I didn't keep my eyes closed, my vision was completely crossed and shifting around uncontrollably ... I wasn't nauseated at first, but by the time I got home, I was feeling very nauseated ... this started at around 10:45 pm and continued with no hint of improvement until 2:14 am ... then, all of a sudden, at 2:15 am, my vision shifted back to completely normal ... I actually felt it "fix itself" as my vision rapidly corrected!!
What the hell was this?!?
It sounds like we had a similar experience ... I'm hoping this won't become a recurring problem for me, as this was completely debilitating ... damned near crippling!
Have you learned anything new about your situation?

That is exactly what has been been happening to me for the past 9 years.
i finally talked to a neuro surgeon about 4 years ago and he said he thinks it is a form of migraine. It was scary when it would happen but he made me feel better about it...im just glad that it has never happened while ive been driving because I would definitely wreck! i hope this helps.
