Strange Fluoxetine side effects

Hi everyone.

Started to take Fluoxetine just over 2 weeks ago after being prescribed them for depression and anxiety. I'm hoping it will get better with time, but at the moment I'm feeling so tired constantly, and like I've lost all my motivation. I'm also feeling quite self conscious around people, and my anxiety has increased a little. If anyone's had a similar experience, how long was it until you started to feel better? I'm not planning on stopping the medication as I've heard it does take time, but can't help wondering how long I have to endure these exacerbated feelings :?

hi I was prescribed these for depression and anxiety and they didn't work for me but everybody is different. for me they made me stay awake till all hours and my anxiety got worse. I was then put on citalopram along with CBT and thankfully that worked. if you really feel they are not right for you I would talk to your doctor and possibly they will change your medication but they do say give it at least 2 weeks for the tablets to get into your system properly

Hi, I've just found this thread, so don't know if your still reading this, but I just wondered how long you were on flux for before switching and how the change went? My daughter has been on flux for 16 weeks 40g but they really don't seem to have done much good and she regularly still has very deep and dangerous lows. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey everyone. I've been taking 40mg for about 2 years now. At first I felt alone, depressed, suicidal thoughts occured, and I just didn't care. It took about 2 months for things to start kicking in. Fluoxetine has been the greatest medication I've ever taken. Although I do get major mood swings and I freak out at the smallest things, it still has helped immensely.

I am on my second week of taking these tablets and the side effects have really kicked in. Anxious, nervous, tired and weak. Doctor has told me to stick with them and the effects will pass. I hope so as I am finding it hard to function. Has anyone got anything positive to say on this? Like most poeple I didn't want to take anything but the depression wasn't lifting. One good thing is I may lose weight in the process!!

I've just been prescribed fluoxetine to try and combat anxiety and night terrors...but now I'm worried about

starting them this side of CHristmas incase It spoils next week...should I wait until after new year? I don't think I can bear feeling like everyone describes over the Christmas period. I'm almost scared to start them at all!

Hi there. I think you should do whatever feels right for you. Don't over think it. Take them when you're ready. They'll hopefully help you in time, but if it's causing you anxiety about taking them, start after Christmas maybe? Take care, and enjoy the holidays. Hope everyone that has commented recently is doing ok also smile Gaz

I have been on these 4 weeks now and have had to come off them. Couldn't stand the side effects anymore. They were not for me. Going back to the doctors to see what else they suggest!!

What side effects are you suffering? $ weeks is the point where they start to work....Give it a couple more weeks and see if thing settle down. I stand by that they are a wonderful drug, but that's for my condition. I suffer from side effects, but worth it smile

    * I meant 4 weeks not $ weeks...Whoops!

Suffering as follows: shakes, upset stomach, nausea, lack of concentration and generally not feeling myself. How long did it take you to get over the side effects and how long have you been on them?

Good to hear some positive comments about them, so will try and stick it out a while longer!

I've delayed starting the tablets for the time being, the insomnia side effect worries me, and at the moment I feel a bit less anxious. I'm trying out meditation and focussing on a series of books...read 'The secret' and then the 'Magic' by Rhonda Byrne....they are brilliant books about changing the way you live through gratitude for what you already have. I've used them before, and they work, but just slipped out of the habit into negativity again. I'm reining in positivity once again, and seeing if this makes a difference. The again I had a huge night terror on Christmas eve, when I was as relaxed and happy as could be!

Now on week 4 and still feeling pretty lousy. Anxious and not wanting to eat. Though I would be feeling better by now. Can't concentrate or function properly.

Please someone give me some positive feedback about this drug - not sure how much longer I can stick with them.

Is anyone using this drug for tremor, benign or otherwise. My GP is saying this could help with my tremor as the current Beta blockers are having little effect. Your input would be appreciated.

Sorry cant help with tremors but have been taking flouxetine for 6 weeks for anxiety and depression. I am

better than I was but not my normal self still. Had a great evening last Tuesday thought I'd turned a corner, felt on top of the world, but was anxious when i woke up on Wednesday. I was so disappointed. I have found this thread useful, cant believe Gaz started it 5 years ago. Thought by week 6 that I would feel better than this.
