Strange sensation to pass urine

Posted , 7 users are following.

hello,

For the last week had the feeling of needing to pass urine a lot more than usual and like pressure some where inside me , that's the only way I can describe it , really weird no pain or burning !! Which makes me think that there is no infection ?? Anyone on here have had the same problem as me, because not sure what or how to explain it too my doctor, especially about the pressure bit and where it's coming from 😡😡Just too say I'm in my early fifties not sure if this has any significants ?? Any info would really help me .

    HI Anne

There are quite a few of us posting about this.  My problem started out the same way.  The pressure was on bladder.   Then my my urine started to vary but quite often was a trickle.  I then went on to have cystitis symptoms.   Had all the usual UTI and blood  tests and everything clear no infection.

Cystitis symptoms cleared but I still had a feeling of pressure.    I even had an ultrasound and again clear.   My Doctor is treating me for an overactive bladder.  My bladder muscle is very tight (probably because i'm squeezing it involuntarily when i'm stressed) and I am not incontinent at all.    I have changed my diet drastically and now eat a lot of alkaline food.   I am also on medication.    Recently i've not been noticing the pressure feeling whereas before it was with me all the time.  There can be lots of different reasons but you may be the same as me.   Definitely worth a visit to your Doctor to see what they say and hopefully you get an answer.

    Good luck.

      Hi Vicky and Anne

I have these symptoms of sometimes strong sometimes slight sensation to pass urine. I had so many tests done, everything back normal I saw a urologist by this time who decides to treat me first of all with solifenicin that didn't have much effect. This was back in 2014. However she then decided to treat me for overactive bladder and prescribed me with mirabegron 50mg, I can't remember how long it took but I remember having relief on it. Now symptoms are back just last week Sunday causing very bad anxiety and depression over it I'm a 21 year old female with lupus also. The anxiety and depression is very bad I am on citalopram 10mg for it but I just want to know cause I haven't been on mirabegron for sometime as to how long it takes for it to work again.

      Thanks

I don't recognise the names of the medication you are on, but the first time I was given overactive bladder medication it was a month's supply to see how I got on.    I think they need to get into your system and take a few weeks but everyone is different.    I got on "ok" with it and was then given 3 months supply.   I don't think there is a quick fix.    If things happen quickly GREAT.   For a lot of people it can take a couple of months but with medication it becomes manageable.

I completely understand how upsetting this all is for you.    What you have to remember is you got relief back in 2014 so there is every chance the same will happen again.

I hope the citalopram helps.  I know these kinds of medicines also take time to get into your system and help.

You are doing the right thing in seeing Doctors and Urologists (much as we don't like doing it!).   Please continue to do so.   You are only young and with their help you should get back to where you were a few months ago.

Try and carry on your life as normal, sometimes concentrating on work, being with friends etc  can take your mind off the feeling of needing to pass urine.

      Take care xx

      Hi Vicky

Thanks for your reply. My urologist discharged me from follow up clinic back last year I think or 2014 since my symptoms improved significantly on mirabegron 50mg. However I stopped them sometime last year and was fine with bouts here and there that would work overnight with solifenicin up until recently last week when it came back with a vengeance. I have been put back on mirabegron 50mg since last Tuesday but only slight difference, sometimes good sometimes not but I can hold it just so I'm not in the bathroom constantly.

It's now created anxiety and depression with panic attacks, as I said I have lupus too so it don't help. Any advice on this is very much appreciated as my urologist did treat as an overactive bladder back then as all test on bladder showed normal and symptoms was just uncontrollablet and uncomfortable urge to go with frequent urination.

      Thanks Danielle ?? xx

I really wish I could help/advise you but i've no medical knowledge and as you say you also have LUPUS to take into consideration so it is imperative you get the right information/medication.     When I get stressed my muscles tighten and my urine has difficulty coming out.     You haven't been taking the tablets for very long so there is every chance they haven't got properly into your system yet.

On a positive note you have been given the same medication that worked before so hopefully it will work again.    Once your symptoms get a bit better then it is highly likely you will feel less stressed. I do think it is a "vicious circle" with illness and stress.  You don't feel well so you get stressed or because you are stressed you get ill.    Working on that theory it looks like your Doctor is approaching your illness from both angles.  You have been given tablets for both the bladder and stress so you have double the chance of getting better but it won't happen overnight.

If the medication doesn't improve your symptoms this time  then I imagine your Doctor will try a different tablet or  refer you back to the urologist or  maybe to the follow up clinic you attended before.   You are just at the start of getting better but there is plenty of hope.

      Take care xx

      Hi,

Very wise words. I appreciate it and it's true I am only at the start of my treatment. How long should I wait to see if things improve on the bladder medication, before I go back to my doctor for some sort of alternative?

      Thanks

      ((Hugs)) ????

I think It depends on how long your prescription is for.    I was given a months supply  and told to come back the week before I was due to finish to review the situation.    I had some success in that time but the Doctor then wanted me to carry on with that tablet for another 3 months to get the most benefit.   I'm off the medicine now but i'm not cured.   There are still times during the day I can feel pressure and I still go to the toilet more often than I used to but it is much more manageable and there are a lot of times during the day I forget about it.   It does flare up when I'm stressed.    I was in pain before and most of the time now i'm not so that has been a major success for me.

Take care of yourself.  Plenty of rest and good healthy food can only be a good thing.

Funnily enough as my problem progressed I used to feel as if someone was inside me stabbing my urethra with a needle!   This has now gone.

i'm sure your Doctor will want a urine test to ensure there is no infection.    I tried different antibiotics but i'm told they didn't help because I didn't have an infection. (I ended up doing 4 urine tests and all were clear) I then had a blood test and again it was clear.   My ultrasound was to check  there was nothing pressing on the bladder and kidneys ok and that I was emptying my bladder.   It too came back clear.   I didn't think I could possibly have an overactive bladder because I wasn't incontinent at all but  the Doctor explained you can still have one without being incontinent.

Good luck at the Doctors.   Let me know how you get on.

      Hello Vicky

well went to my doctors on Thursday morning and she tested a sample of my urine but she said there was a bit of white sells in my urine but not enough to say that I did have a infection but gave me antibiotics anyway because it's the bank holiday weekend and she didn't want me to get worse over the weekend , but nothing has changed since taking them only that I have  a bad stomach a couple of time since taking them 😬 Today has been more frustration than usual with the feeling of needing to urinate even more often and that feeling like weird sensation all the time as if something pressing on bladder and sending niggling ache deep in side 😓😓 .

I've had "waterwork" trouble only 3 times in my life but this time it's different.    Each time antibiotics fixed it even though I never showed an infection.  First one they try is usually trimethoprim, then I had nitrofurantoin then cefalexin.   This time however none of them worked.   You might just need a stronger antibiotic.    There is still hope you can be sorted quite quickly.

If  they don't work then I presume you will follow the same NHS procedure as me.   Blood test (again clear) and given overactive bladder tablets.   Then I was offered an ultrasound and a cystoscopy.   I refused the cystoscopy because I was scared!!   I am awaiting an appointment with a uroligist and i'm scared of that too.   I'm always so healthy and this has been a shock to me.    Yesterday I had severe stomach/pelvic pain probably because i'm so stressed out with it.   I don't understand how so many of us have similar problems and no answer.

hi With intersticial cystitus you can get frequency and pain without samples showing up bacteria, as its inflammation of bladder urethra, whre it is sore can also cause low back pelvic pain. They actually now use keflalexin as apreventative against flare ups, research thinking there might be bacteria deep in bladder wall and not showing in urine. but you do need cystascope to diagnose it, you can have a scope with anascetic whilst they look inside with a camera, wake up on ward and usually fit to go home in an hour, or sometimes people have flexible cystoscopy where you just have local anascetic, and go home 5min later, with ic they treat symptoms and do improve things. Hope it improves and you get answers,

Thanks for explaining. You make it sound simple but I have this massive fear of the procedure. I have spoken to people who have had it and they didn't make me feel any better!!!  I tense up when i'm scared  and all muscles "down there" go into spasm.   They are in spasm just now because i'm writing about it.   I've had root canal treatment twice recently without pain relief so i'm not a total wimp.    When I got results of my ultrasound I was so happy and my flow was really good - presumably because I was relaxed.  It is so good to have people like yourself to share with.   You can't keep going on about it to family and friends - even though it's all I can think of.

I had  looked into interstitial cystitis as a possibility and also pelvic dysfunction and I am watching what I eat.   Until this week I was managing fine and had no pain just pressure on bladder - and slow urine depending on what I ate/drank.   When I found out i'd to see a urologist the pain came really badly.   I'm positive stress is causing/contributing to whatever condition I have.     What you say makes sense.  I have always believed I have an infection "somewhere."    I will be watching for the postman bringing my appointment date with dread.

hi Vicky, l did try to make it sound easy to try reasurre you, and it can be honestly, sometimes can leave you a bit sore for a day r two, did me first times and under g a but next times awake and no after affects, think it depend what state your in when you have it done. After saying that l can have problems over surgical procedures, last time l,d cystascope they told me my urethra  was a bit narrow and needed dilating, which l think means stretching using different size rods, didnt like the sound of that at all, as it happens l dont think my flow was too bad or capacity. That was a few mnth ago, but notice in last few weeks the flows got a bit slower and passing a bit less, think quite a bit  less than a quarter ltre so its oh no, l know sooner or later l,ll have to see about dilation, for me its more fear over results, l should put my trust in urologist, but sometmes not easy, see if it gets worse then think about it, getting a bit of soreness at front back ache with it, not very bad but there.  Let us know how helpful the marshmallow is, also when appt,

It does help to hear of other people's experiences and I do prefer the truth e.g. knowing it can be a bit sore for a day or two.  You sound as if you have had a horrible time.    I've been checking my urine to see if it is acid/alkaline and I have noticed when it is alkaline the flow is better and less painful.     When the urine tests acid the flow is more of  a trickle.  So I changed my diet completely and ensure I eat alkaline food  to help with the flow.   For instance I add a side salad of alkaline food to whatever i'm eating.  I take stuff like  lettuce, baby spinach leaves, parsley, basil, red cabbage ,beansprouts etc  but all alkaline salad stuff should help.

This is probably more helpful to people who are at the beginning of their journey and are on antibiotics trying to relieve the stinging of urine.    I have experimented and for me the stinging went and the flow is better.  Obviously this doesn't take the "pressure on the bladder" feeling away .   Marshmallow seemingly helps because it coats the bladder.   I prefer to empty the capsules into water so it can "swoosh" round my bladder.

I don't enjoy food any more because all my treats have gone.  Saw sweet potato crisps on tv yesterday and made them last night. They were actually quite nice.

Please keep me infoed on how you are getting on.

Alkaline/acid foods affect people differenty but it is worth trying.    3 months ago I could eat/drink anything and go to toilet normally.   For me Alkaline food has a very similar effect to taking bicarbonate of soda.  I find Bicarbonate of Soda  increases the flow and helps with stinging but I don't want to take it.   Different acid/alkaline charts contradict each other so it is a minefield.    I never thought you would find me filling my shopping basket with green stuff  like baby spinach leaves but as you know you will try anything to get better.    Of course it hasn't cured me and I have a pain at the moment on my right lower side, but I don't fear going to the toilet the way I did before.  The flow now starts off quite good and then gets slower but it doesn't sting.     I've found salad and vegetables I can take but i'm still trying to find my way round fruit and what agrees/disagrees with me.   I have even given up bread because it contains all sorts of stuff, e.g. vinegar ???

Eating is now a minefield for me.   I cant do the 80/20 alkaline/acid that diets recommend but I have found a bit of success with my way so i'll keep on with that.

      Hope you feel better soon.

I had been wondering if my very acid diet had eroded my bladder tissue (e.g. interstitial cystitis) and that's why non acidic food helps.

I also find taking peppermint tea helps if I have a sore stomach.
