Strange vibration sensations - what's causing it??
Posted , 140 users are following.
I've found several forums where there have been posts from people experiencing this disconcerting feeling of an internal quivering or vibration but none of them are current, so I wanted to see if anyone else out there is having the same experience and can share an insight into what might be causing it.
I started to get this feeling of internal vibration when I was mainly lying in bed and then occasionally if I shifted position it might last for 30 seconds or so before disappearing. That was about 8 months ago. Now I feel it every night and during the day as well quite often. The other day after a short walk of a few hundred yards followed by a period of standing still it felt like the ground was vibrating because it was in my feet. It seems to move around to different areas of the body - sometimes I feel it in my legs, an arm, torso - it's quite random but often felt when I've shifted position in bed. At first I thought it was circulatory but now I think it's probably neurological. I thought I was having palpitations but an ECG showed nothing abnormal. I've also had a full spine & brain MRI as I've been having other strange symptoms of occasional numbness and sensations of burning and cold areas of my arms/hands and legs/feet and a sore tongue which comes and goes and often feels like I've just cleaned my teeth with menthol toothpaste when I haven't. I thought I had all the signs of MS, but it hasn't been diagnosed. I've also had a number of blood tests for immune issues, evoked potentials and nerve conductivity tests. Nothing! The MRI does show a lot of wear to my cervical vertebrae and two anterior spondylolisthesis - one cervical, one lumbar, so I wonder if my spinal issues could be the cause. My neurologist was doubtful. He also couldn't explain the vibration sensation except to say that it can be caused by a migraine, which I certainly haven't had.
I just don't know where to go with this now. My GP isn't interested and puts everything down to stress which I AM under it's true to say, but I don't think she's right. I've had to pay for all my neuro investigations as a result because she won't refer me or do any more blood tests etc. I'm trying homeopathy, osteopathy and acupuncture as I want to find something that will relieve these weird symptoms and prefer to avoid drugs if I can.
I'm 58, eat reasonably heathily, no alcohol, only 1 cup of coffee a day and my weight is normal. I broke my wrist badly at the end of August last year which is when my problems all seemed to start. i
I also wonder if the metal plate that was used to fix the fracture could be causing some kind of strange reaction.
If anyone else is having these symptoms please let me know if you've been able to identify the cause and how to deal with it.

Hi Sally4Edgar,
I have been experiencing exact symptoms as described by you from past 3 years, initially I ignored them but now they have turned so severe that I cannot live without finding an answer to them...
At first I thought I developed cervical then I thought it might be happening because of migraine( which I never had) and so on.. but never really paid attention to these strange vibrations which keep moving from my hand to my brain and from my face to my feet... This year I broke my anklet twice due to sudden vibrations and felt a lot of pain in my head while sleeping but the biggest problem with me is pain does not remain at one place for very long it keep moving with the shift in strange vibrations... I have been seeing some physiotherapists and homeopath doctors but none of these are helping.... I am 21 years old and extremely scared to go for an MRI or CT scan ... These vibrations are affecting my daily life very badly, unable to focus at my studies and simultaneously scared for my condition ... I hope you find answers to your questions and please keep updating because I am losing on my mental health because of this, frustration of not being able to find answers and being sick with such disease is really excruciating .....

I'm thankful to come across your post. I'm wondering if others can feel when you're having the vibrations/buzzing inside. Today when I was having an episode I told my son to put his hand on my arm and leg and he could feel it. What's weird is that i was having this episode for probably 10 mins while waiting in the car for him, and when he got in the car i asked him to sit still and see if he could feel the vibrations in his feet. i was thinking i was feeling the vibrations from the ground under my car. he felt nothing, until he put his hand on me. ok. here's the weird part i was getting to, just wanted to set the stage. Anyway. after he had his hand on me a few seconds and i put my hand on his arm to see if i could feel anything from him, my episode greatly subsided and then sent away.
There's three things that I noticed could have triggered the episode, but don't know which or if for sure. First, I had some sugar (icecream sandwich) shortly before. wondered if sugar related. Second, the store I was in previously to this episode did increase my anxiety, though nothing significant happened. Third option trying to figure this out was thought that it could be back related, or vagus nerve related. My mom had MS and my sister does hope it's not that.
I'm going to see an acupuncturist. I would not be surprised if it's another possible cause, being body energy imbalance.
Since you've posted how are you doing? Did you find out what's your cause?

Hi Sally, i just found this thread in my bookmarks and must have saved it back when i was vibrating and wondering what the heck was happening to me. I tried the Lyme route because along with the vibrating i felt awful and thought that something was terribly wrong. The vibrating began around 2012 and it was not until 2019 that i finally understood what was happening. I had been in an extremely stressful, emotionally abusive relationship that i was trying to leave but my health had really plummeted and it was complicated. I began a meditation practice that combines sensory experiencing (essentially, using my hands to track sensations in my body in a non-judgmental way) and discovered what it feels like to really be there for oneself and i began to develop self-compassion through this daily practice. It was the first step towards recovering from the emotional abuse and reclaiming my sense of sovereignty. As I practised the vibrations intensified. I was seeing an acupuncturist (who i later discovered has been through this process) and understood the concept of meridians and eventually the vibrating occurred in very specific, fine pathways--meridians, travelling up my face and head in symmetrical patterns. It was very strange!! At this point I knew that something beyond the realm of conventional medicine was happening and I began to let go of trying to find a label for it and just trust and watch the process. Eventually it intensified until I had what is called a kundalini awakening: dormant energy at the base of the spine was "awakened" and shot up through my spine and into my head like a rocket. I discovered what chakras were because i could feel them and i was in a state of bliss for an hour. It was the beginning of my spiritual awakening. It sounds bizarre--and it's certainly a very strange experience, but it's real and not something that the majority if healthcare providers will know anything about. I wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone. If you google "kundalini" you will find all sorts of info and a lot if it will sound just plain crazy. There's a woman whose name escapes me--Bonny Greenbaum??--and she has written some great books on the process. If this strikes a chord I'm happy to share more details.

i am having a similar sensation in the last few months. mostly feel it while i am lying down. it feels like internal vibration with constant rhythm in my arms and head. goes away when i am active. does not show up on the outside.
i am also having muscle aches all over the body intermittently and joint pain. also some sensation in tongue like you described. i have done all blood tests including for auto immune, MRI of head and spine and EMG tests but nothing so far except minor cervical degeneration. doctor has been saying stress and anxiety but i dont have too much stress.
at this point i am trying to cut my sugar and caffiene and see if that helps.

Hi Sally, I know your health issue post was 5 years ago. It mirrors mine to a T. I am wondering how you are doing now. I can help you understand what's been going on as I solved this mystery myself, and want to help others heal from these issues because they do worsen. I am 56 years old and lived a nightmare my whole life. Would love to know how you are doing now, or if it has worsened for you. God bless!

Hello.
I am totally experiencing the same things. It has been so hard to explain, so i finally looked it up and they called it internal tremors. I have been experiencing all kinds of weird feelings in my body since the end of September of this year. Been to the ER twice and my GP too many times to count. At first, nothing was found. I just knew it had to be from getting the COVID vaccine. But it wasn't. My 2nd er visit, they told me that i had functioning neurologic disorder. A few days later, I go to my GP to let her know and she told me that my test that I asked her to do showed somewhat positive for Lyme's Disease. My cousin insisted that i get tested for it because we went camping the end of July. Of course I never seen any signs of a tick bite and i never thought this could be the cause of all my problems going on with my body, the main one being that I can't stand up straight. I started taking antibiotics last week so I have 2 more to go. So far no relief, but praying to God in Jesus' name that there will be for me and you and all out here going through these difficulties.

My symptoms in terms of vibrations and when they occur are similar to yours. I also had an MRI which was unremarkable. I have been at least tentatively diagnosed with parainsomnia and am now taking an anti anxiety med called buspirone. The vibrations have reduced to just morning when I wake up and when I stand for longer periods of time. They are stronger in my lower legs. If it doesn't resolve completely I am told I can try a beta blocker. Don't know if any of this is helpful but when the vibrations were all day every day it became pretty disturbing. I hope you find a solution. Possibly down the line I will find that I have the beginnings of something else but I'm not going to worry about it unless things get worse.

I get these internal vibrations a lot I mentioned it when I was last in hospital and it was suggested that it could be neuropathy but no tests were carried out, personally I think they symptoms are a side effect of the prescription drugs that Im taking
