Strange vibration sensations - what's causing it??

Posted , 140 users are following.

I've found several forums where there have been posts from people experiencing this disconcerting feeling of an internal quivering or vibration but none of them are current, so I wanted to see if anyone else out there is having the same experience and can share an insight into what might be causing it.

I started to get this feeling of internal vibration when I was mainly lying in bed and then occasionally if I shifted position it might last for 30 seconds or so before disappearing. That was about 8 months ago. Now I feel it every night and during the day as well quite often. The other day after a short walk of a few hundred yards followed by a period of standing still it felt like the ground was vibrating  because it was in my feet. It seems to move around to different areas of the body - sometimes I feel it in my legs, an arm, torso - it's quite random but often felt when I've shifted position in bed. At first I thought it was circulatory but now I think it's probably neurological. I thought I was having palpitations but an ECG showed nothing abnormal. I've also had a full spine & brain MRI as I've been having other strange symptoms of occasional numbness and sensations of burning and cold areas of my arms/hands and legs/feet and a sore tongue which comes and goes and often feels like I've just cleaned my teeth with menthol toothpaste when I haven't. I thought I had all the signs of MS, but it hasn't been diagnosed. I've also had a number of blood tests for immune issues, evoked potentials and nerve conductivity tests. Nothing! The MRI does show a lot of wear to my cervical vertebrae and two anterior spondylolisthesis - one cervical, one lumbar, so I wonder if my spinal issues could be the cause. My neurologist was doubtful. He also couldn't explain the vibration sensation except to say that it can be caused by a migraine, which I certainly haven't had.

I just don't know where to go with this now.  My GP isn't interested and puts everything down to stress which I AM under it's true to say, but I don't think she's right. I've had to pay for all my neuro investigations as a result because she won't refer me or do any more blood tests etc.  I'm trying homeopathy, osteopathy and acupuncture as I want to find something that will relieve these weird symptoms and prefer to avoid drugs if I can.

I'm 58, eat reasonably heathily, no alcohol, only 1 cup of coffee a day and my weight is normal. I broke my wrist badly at the end of August last year which is when my problems all seemed to start. i

I also wonder if the metal plate that was used to fix the fracture could be causing some kind of strange reaction.

If anyone else is having these symptoms please let me know if you've been able to identify the cause and how to deal with it.

    Hi

I too have these feelings if internal vibrations. I feel them when i am still. I slso feel them in my face and vision.

i have been to multiple specialist. it definately is odd. i have done many test. MrI, spinal tap, xrays, bloodwokr, ECG. i have been to neurologist, rheumatologist, opthalmologist, infectious disease, and a spine specialist. My lynes test is positive in IGM but itx stayed the same fir a few years never switching to IGG. I think its lymes or something causing lymez to be false positive. I too never remember being bit by a tick. infectious disease also td me i was positive gor chikengunya which id a mosqiyoe bitn disease. i believe theres still not enough studies and thats why internal vibrations has t really been linked to much

    OMG!

This started with me a month ago.

It was around in between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. I awoke with the strange vibration that was similar to the bass of being in a nightclub next to the speaker but amplified by 10%.

Then this morning it happened again at 8:08 this morning but was much much more pronounced.

The only common denominator that I found was that I had been taking Sea Moss.

I have no idea what's going on but I will tell you the first time it happened I thought I was losing my mind and I didn't tell any of my friends or family.

But since it happened a second time, no holds bars! I'm definitely not losing my mind!

first time I was laying on my back, second time this morning I was laying on my left side.

As the vibrations started I also felt like I was being scanned.

    Yep that sounds bloody crazy!

But it's the truth and I went through it and I want to know what the hell's going on!

A few years ago after driving 4 hours from our home in central Texas to see our son in Dallas I felt an odd vibrating sensation. I thought maybe his apt. in a high rise was on top of a large AC or heating unit. It happened for a few years then started happening even when I was home. I've always been intolerant of heat and started getting hives if I got too hot. the vibrating tho was new. As a fibromyalgia sufferer since 1983 I've been on many different meds. After the vibrating started, my doctor prescribed Cymbalta. It completely stopped the vibrating and helps a little with other pains. The only side effect is it takes all anxiety away. I never cry about anything. Nothing worries me. That may be good but a little anxiety is a good thing. I don't have motivation to clean, cook, travel, etc. I enjoy seeing family but don't make an effort to see anyone but our son and daughter. Tradeoffs I guess. Good luck!

Hi Sally I have just read your post and can't believe the the similarities you have to what I'm going through. I have all the vibrations and tremors the same to what you have mentioned. They can be made worse if I do certain movements like raise my shoulders to shrug them or lift my one leg up while standing. I also have been feeling really lightheaded and disorientated which does seem to be getting slightly better than it was. I also broke my wrist around about 2 months ago when all my symptoms started and I also had to have a plate put it it was quite severe and fractured in like 15 places. Can I ask did you have a nerve blocker put in and operated while awake? Or was you put to sleep for your operation? I'm also wondering if you have got any more info on what could of been causing your symptoms? I look forward to hearing back from you 😊 thanks Jordan

I'm trying to get ready for work but I'll try to get on through the day if i have time or when i get off. i am a nurse and have been having this since i had Covid. have been being treated for PoTS but most recent tilt test was negative. Found an article about a type of epilepsy that is hard to diagnose. I'm thinking could have been caused by covid for me, but girl in article had all her life-- was also an older article i think. check your vital signs thru the day and note them especially when and after you feel vibration.

an ecg isn't always adequate to check for palpitations. they should do a holter monitor for a week or 2.

It's possible that you may be experiencing Fibromyalgia. A lot of your symptoms seem to Fibromyalgia.

I have been experiencing the vibrating in my lower abdomen and found this forum after doing a google search to find out what was going on.

I have Fibro and have a whole slew of weird unexplainable pains... i guess this is a new one i'll add.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better.

You are not alone:( I have been having night vibrations for 4 months along with a feeling of motion sickness. Not spinning of the head more like I have gotten off of a rocking boat. I started with the cardiologist cause of other symptoms that I'm having And then general practitioner and a neurologist and nobody can tell me what is wrong. It is very frustrating! I was very upset with the neurologist because he accused me And then general practitioner and a neurologist and nobody can tell me what is wrong. It is very frustrating! I was very upset With my neurologist he completely blew me off and told me he thought it was all psychological and I need ed to speak to psychologist And/or psychiatrist. Have you had any updates since your post

Hi Sally I'm just wondering if you found any kind of diagnosis for. Your symptoms? Did you find your tremors got worse when you tried to almost do like a sit up position upon waking out of bed? I have had all you symptoms pretty much spot. On to what you said I also broke my wrist a few months back and has to have a metal plate and screws put in. Any kind of insight on what you found or what you did would be great as I'm struggling everyday at the moment with no joy from anyone like GPS or hospitals. Hope. You OK and on the mend and would love to hear from you on how your doing?

    Thanks Jordan

Sally, mine started the same way in bed vibrations in legs but after maybe a week. Or so. Both my legs vibrating top to bottom and feet as well. First time 4 hours a few days later it's last like 2 days straight then a day break 4 days very hard to mentally handle for me. I guess it's been maybe 2 months it even sometimes wakes me up at night. I also am having heart Pounding once it lasted 4 days I finally went to my pc EKG showed normal I wore a heart monitor a week mailed it in not heard back yet but heart Pounding is much better. I've never had legs feet vibrations before. I do however have MECFS fibromyalgia and florquinlone toxicity. But had these for years this is first time this has happened just hoping it goes away please let me know if you find a cause or cure.

Sally what city/state are you seeing it in? If anyone else is getting it please sound off your location. You can feel it by feeling with pressure against a hard surface connected to the ground such as a telephone pole. So far we are getting reports from Canton, GA and Durham, NC. In Durham the intensity increases at night.
