STRICTLY COME CRUTCHES

I'm still on crutches at 7 weeks not quite strong enough yet to walk properly.

I was wondering which way people find it easiest to use them.

do you use both crutches on the floor and walk through. Or

Do you use opposite crutch to leg and swing.

I was told by my physio to it both crutches on the floor and walk through them ...they were so much easier to use after that

That's how my physio said at first... now though he says use both crutches and operated leg at same timethen bring other  leg forward...  IT really  does feel more natural way of walking. .

It seems every physio has different ideas

I would just use whichever method you find the easiest for you

I wanted to see how nanny people use either way. I sm building up quite big shoulder muscles. Trying not to learn so much on them but use them for guidance. Except when I'm tired then I drag myself along with them

I still keep one crutch by my bedside for when I need the Loo in the night and I feel a bit unsteady when first waking up

Crutches must be very uncomfortable sad

I found walker more difficult. Trolley was quite fun as it used to take off as I tried to keep up

Sounds great ...I have a folding stick which I use when going out as it gives me confidence

I don't use any aids around the house except during the night when I use the crutch to go to the loo

I use a stick when going out for a walk but nothing around the house.

I try to walk out side without the stick but walk like a drunk! Just can't balance or walk in a straight line!

Uphill is ok though. But downhill? Ugh back to the stick and the limp. rolleyes

       9wks today

Really?  Well that cheers me up! It just seems to drag on doesn't it!

I feel like I'll never walk properly again!

      Thankyou Jean smile

Downhill walking is a challenge not sure why. I think we just have to get by with what ever means possible. I don't relish walking with a stick forever. Hopefully will become independant from aids unless I get really tired. But that's a long way off yer

I think i read somewhere that your posture when walking downhill means more weight is thrown on the knees..so more pressure!

I also have a swelling at the back of the knee that looks like a baker's cyst but doc  says it's just fluid.

It restricts my ROM though which is a  nuisance. rolleyes

What will they do about it. Is there something they can do or will it sort itself our

I think crutches maybe with me for a bit. I have quite a steep walk down from our local Tescos and I am tottering down it on crutches.m

i tend to change to 2 crutches down and walk through going down hill. Someone said it looks like I'm skiing

They seem to think it will clear up eventually! Like everything else! rolleyes

I'm icing it. Elevating and doing hamstring stretches.

Plus some massaging and lymphatic drainage found on YouTube

Hydrotherapy again this afternoon so i will mention it. I also want them to measure my ROM.
