Struggling to sit comfortably

Posted , 12 users are following.

Since discharge home on april 17th i have been unable to tolerate sitting in the armchair.

Its been measured OT suggested various pillows.

I have tried this and tried computer chair with pillows or not.

Tried dining chair etc etc....but i just cant sit.

I then start with pain in buttock groin thigh knee and ankle.

Ice and pain killers then for several hours to get on top of it.

The only comfy place is bed and i am feeling cut off in bedroom 😕

The measurement of 2 inches more than distance from foot to back of knee worked well for me. Have you been told about this one?

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I am told by OT my chairs need to be 18inches height.

So measured carefully but no joy yet.

I do find comfort in bed/on the bed which is right height and has memory foam mattress.

The pains are in op leg at groin knee thigh and ankle.

I feel like they are deeply aching and nervey which is to be expected.

Have a phone consultation booked with gp tomorrow to discuss pain relief as i only was discharged with 5x days oxycontin 10mg and 50ml oxynorm 5mg/5ml to use prn.

I have therefore only used half strength breakthru pain relief on occassion tho i could do with more.

It seems a big drop from oxy to just paracetamol after one week???

(Take 100mg gabapentin x 3times daily but i had to ssk for this too so only had for past 3days).

District nurse coming to redress wound today...part is a little green 😨

Glad you got some gabapentin and hope they sort you. I do not like the sound of your dressing ... green cannot be good

Let us know what the nurse says .. please. And I really hope everything gets sorted out and you find a way to get comfortable.

Angela, you NEED strong enough pain relief to give you excellent pain control, or it can interfere with your recovery and your ability to move as necessary. Many people are on the strong stuff for a number of weeks - I was for 5 weeks. Sure, some people seem to be able to do with much less, and I am happy for them, but if you need it, you need it! They work best if you take them on a schedule and stay on top of the pain, rather than trying to catch up with pain by waiting until you feel it. Hope you can easily get what you need!

District nurse cleaned and assessed wound....showed me pic on her phone because i cannot twist to see it......was deleted after......its great and neat.

The green was from iodine on skin reacting with dressing.

Not much bruising. One continuous suture.

More comfy and blisters from previous tapes healing nicely....just dont know what they were so can avoid again.

Now will have suture ends done monday.

Gp to review meds tomorrow....enuff oxy till then.

Finally got seated downstairs tho on sofa in similar position to bed. Just need help to get up as its a fraction too low but at least not isolated from family.

Even had few steps outside today tho too early for sumdays marathon! 😉

Was good Cels , went in at 6 45 ( dropped off by partner) - didnt finish till 4 as had a staff meeting at 3pm ( arranged by me previously so couldnt really complain !) - and lovely boss got me a cab home so didnt have to climb the slope to the bus stop - not too hectic a day so wasnt rushing round and luckily was there this morning so could deal with an emergency when a resident became very unwell so could support staff - although i did stand there apologising for not helping with manual handling and transferring her to the ambulance stretcher ! So all in all a good day - am so glad to be back , but also glad its Friday tomorrow ! Xx

I bet.  You're doing very well Bini, and your very own carriage home cheesygrin  I would imagine the first day back was a bit nerve-wracking but maybe by next week you'll have relaxed into it.

Keep up the good work Xx

Sounds like a very full and satisfying day! I bet your colleagues were glad to have you back.

I am sure it was tiring, but a good fatigue.

Glad to hear how well it went for you. I hope you have a relaxing weekend planned.

      Cheers

Lol, i got a round of applause at the staff meeting and 3 cheers so I guess so ! Im just so glad I,m back and coping . Not 100% - still very stiff and sore first thing and need to take mornng painkillers , and am v tired at end of day but in a good way, Will be a while before I feel I am contributing fully but yes, its good. Feeling I am getting back to normal is incredibly motivating for me , although I know and appreciate different pathways work better for others. We are all individuals and have to take our own roads to recovery - the big group hugs from this forum have massively contributed so thank you all xx

I had the same problem for weeks after. I am now 11 weeks out. Memory foam was to hot for me. So I went online and bought a extra large ice gel pack. Instead of freezing it I put it in a pillowcase and sat on it. It was my salvation for sitting comfy even in my recliner. You do a lot of sitting the first few weeks and it gets hard to find a comfortable position.

Sofa maybe? I camped out on the chaise part of mine after the op. It was the section least sat on since purchase, so was still very firm. It also had the advantage that I could lean against the back for support. Five months on, I'm still camped there and in no hurry to go back to bed... If I couldn't sit, I just lay down.
